Fami has proven to be a perfect fit. According to Fami's own words, she found the audition at a time when she wasn't certain what her future would be as a bass player and was actually considering quitting. She brought to the band exactly what they needed, youth and enthusiasm. As Asami said in this video, when Fami entered the room, everything began to sparkle. The band members were feeling depressed after losing their founding member and leader, and they needed someone to remind them how to have fun while playing. Fami re-energized the band and took them to a new level. You can see the difference she made on stage during their current world tour. Everyone is smiling and happy, and having a good time. Fami is jumping and running around, and constantly smiling. The girl is so full of spunk and energy and it has rubbed off onto the other members. Even Miyako smiles more now.

Fami's channel now has some 700.000 subscribers. And she's 22 now.
I'm glad they found fami, and I'm glad fami applied. I have never seen someone so excited before, when she announced it on her own UA-cam channel. It was a very memorable experience. It was also, for most people including myself, a Fami face-reveal. I watched a few of her videos before I watched lovebites. I was just starting to watch Lovebites when they began the Bass auditions. Around April 2022, I watched a few Bass audition videos, but fami did not reveal her audition publically for obvious reasons.
I became a huge Lovebites fan during that time, By the time the band was set to reveal the new bassist I was so hungry for the reveal that I kept thinking about all the other bassist I watched, as I wanted to guess the winner. I recall at the time wondering about "Fami" remembering her videos and thinking how cool it would be if she applied. Well I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was when they revealed Fami and for the first time my thoughts on the matter were also revealed to become a true prediction. I couldn't ask for a better scenario, and Fami has fit into lovebites perfectly.
Awesome, love to watch these. Completely agree Fami put herself in a position where she could grab a chance like this, after watching Lovebites live she was awesome, non stop smiles, was an awesome show!! 🤘

A new EP and a live DVD/Blu-ray both will be released on August 28.
„LOVEBITES EP II“ will contain new songs and also a re-recording of the band’s debut „THE LOVEBITES EP“ for a limited edition.
„Memorial of the Warrior Souls“ is the live recording of last year‘s Tokyo concert during the Judgement Day tour. It features 7 live versions of songs from the „Judgement Day“ album including „Soldier stands solitarily“. And also the pre-release „We are the resurrection“ which was the opening track for this show.

Fami is a perfect fit. She has interjected some new energy into Lovebites. They all have a little bounce in their steps. She has just a really infectious personality. The talent level in Japan is really high, they picked the right one. As you see her play with Lovebites, she is in her element. The 15 yr old bassist, Kanade. is now in a new band NEK! who is off to a solid start. She's got some Fami im her for sure & a little F Chopper Koga from Gacharic Spin.
Go to Fami's official YT channel and check out a clip called "alien alien bass cover". This'll give you a good idea of how talented she is. She performed this cover when she was still in high school or she had just completed high school.
Although I think Alien Alien is a decent example, it is probably better to go with Fami’s cover of ‘Kenshi Yonezu - KICKBACK’, as it has no quick edits or special effects (she is sitting down to play it), while he said he intends to directly compare it to Miho’s style of playing. I feel Kickback is more fair to Miho than using Alien Alien, while it is still very impressive. I even used the Kickback cover before for a comparison to the bassist Mina (not to be confused with Miho), who also did a cover of the exact same song, and so for that, it was a perfect comparison video.
I think he should know, that Miho focuses more on stage presence and headbanging, and less so on the technical aspects of bass playing, as was said in her interview, while Fami’s style (best represented on her UA-cam channel) focuses more on the technical aspects like bass tapping, while also implementing more variation of style like bass slapping as well.

It is precisely because "Miho focuses more on stage presence and headbanging, and less so on the technical aspects of bass playing" that all the Albums and EPs (AUDIO!!!) of LOVEBITES occupied high places in various Japanese Charts and received international recognition. 🤗 ALL releases of LOVEBITES with Miho's bass have received high praise from numerous Western music media and music critics. They made their conclusions about the quality of the music of LOVEBITES after listening to the CDs (AUDIO).
It is precisely because "Miho focuses more on stage presence and headbanging, and less so on the technical aspects of bass playing" that LOVEBITES received the prestigious Golden Gods Award from Metal Hammer. 🤗
Fact: LOVEBITES received Golden Gods (June 11, 2018) after releasing an AUDIO Album and two AUDIO EPs. Therefore, people evaluating bassist Miho physically could not see how she behaves on stage and how she shakes her head. 😊 The first DVD/Blu-ray 'Battle in the East' was released only on December 5, 2018. 'Battle in the East' was released as a Limited Edition of the 'Clockwork Immortality' Album.
I've already given friendly advice to people who spoke disrespectfully about Miho. In order "not to torment" your ears with Miho’s bass, throw into the trash can all the releases that were recorded with Miho and which took high places in the Charts, etc. : three EPs, one Single, three Studio Albums, four Live Albums, one Compilation Album, six DVDs/Blu-rays, nine MVs.
P.S. Drums and bass can be compared to the foundation of a building. Only on a good and reliable foundation can a good and reliable building (song) be built. Drums and bass create and maintain the necessary rhythm. In addition, the drums and bass must fit together perfectly. If this is not the case, then no matter how great and technical the guitarists, vocalists, etc. are, any song will sound bad.
Some aspects of this process I consider significant begins with Miho having been the origin of the 'idea' of a type of band that became LOVEBITES. Miho had been in a band with Haruna previously (Destrose), though Haruna had departed before the band ceased to perform while Miho stayed to it's end. When Miho got her 'idea' Haruna was her first choice to join her. These 2 had met Midori & Miyako previously who were in different bands but playing in some of the same clubs. They first invited Midori, then Miyako, though she was involved in 2 other bands at the time & unable to commit, so credited as "support" initially. Asami had been singing R&B/Soul, Cabaret performing & Chorus support ▷ UVERworld & VAMPS. in large concert venues, though no "Metal" experience. She submitted a 'demo' and Miho, (as leader for her entire tenure) wanted a vocalist with English ability and 'non-traditional' Metal vocal style, Asami was chosen.
All this to indicate the level of significance in Miho's contribution to LOVEBITES having the members & format/styles that they have & continue to embrace. Additionally, Miho was song contributor (one-third of songs), bringing lyrics & music, collaborating with prog-keyboardist Mao on music. Miyako writes music, but no lyrics, collaborating with Asami for that, though 2 songs from previous bands with lyrics by "Dr U". (Scream For Me & Liar). Mao also writes music with Asami as lyricist who now contributes significantly to music also.
Haruna has brought music & lyrics "Bravehearted" a fantastic song.
For the auditions for bassist 3 songs were chosen, 2 of them written by Miho, "The Hammer Of Wrath" that continues to 'open' the majority of their LIVE shows, with "Golden Destination" requiring the 'gallop' Fami mentioned having to learn, discussed by the others in this Audition Digest. 3rd was "Shadowmaker" from Miyako (music) & Asami (lyrics), reported to be M&M's favorite to perform.
Miho was origin, founder & leader in getting 'signed' to Victor, international touring, awarded "Best New Band" worldwide by Metal Hammer Magazine, 2018, and highly praised performances everywhere they have traveled. Just before 'c0v!d' they had done 11 shows in 13 days with DragonForce in UK (11/2019) and scheduled extensive tour of their 2020 "Electric Pentagram" release, unfortunately cut short by health concerns worldwide.
I am grateful for Fami becoming the new "5th Element" but will always honor Miho for all her extensive contributions beginning with the idea of such a band as LOVEBITES. Many of her songs remain prominent in their setlists and she continues to perform as 'guest' bassist in many different music groups in Japan.
Without Miho LOVEBITES would not exist 💜.

With Fami you can start by listening to her “Alien Alien” video performance, so good what Fami can do on the bass. As for Miho, I haven’t seen a solo video of her. Saludos!!

Those two guys were never a chance - surely they knew that.
One of the auditioners was Rina Hoshino who is now the bassist of Tokyo Groove Jyoshi. She's one of the top-notch jazz/fusion bassists in Japan, but apparently, her laid-back stage presence worked against her.
In terms of technical ability, I don’t think I would even put Rina in a top 10 for Japanese female bassists. That’s not to say she is bad, only to say there are better bassists out there. Better bassists are Fami, Mina, Koga, Juna Serita, as examples. I think Fami playing in a rhythm she had to learn through trial and error just for the audition (the triple/gallop), and still winning, is not too surprising IMO.

It is not all subjective, as in a bassist competition, the judges wouldn’t decide on a winner without some objective criteria to work with (they can actually discern the difference in skill), and also don’t decide on a winner by merely pulling a name out of a hat either. It’s not entirely subjective, or random. I think there is a problem with bias though, but we have to try to account for it as best we can.
Edit: In response to metal not being Rina’s thing, well to be fair, it wasn’t really Fami’s thing either.
Both Miho and Fami are excellent finger playing bassists, but so far we've only seen Fami play songs that were written in the Miho era. However, the Judgement Day album was released after Fami joined the band when all the songs were already written. But Fami put a little of her own flavour into the bass work. Fami is a more technical player than Miho. She can slap and pop on the bass, something that I don't think Miho ever did. So, in the song "Judgement Day", if Miho had ever played that, I would think it would be quite different than how Fami plays it.
What I am excited about going forward is hearing the songs written in the Fami era. I'm really hoping at least some of the new songs feature Fami's technical ability more prominantly. For example, I'd like to see bass solos, or even dualing guitar and bass solos.
Fami was a surprise because while we had seen several auditions published but not from her.........also it would have been difficult for them to choose a man .. .......after all, Fami was a very good choice not only in playing but mainly surprised me with their stage present.......
I would guess it was deicided together with the management? They knew that if she put out the audition video on her own channel, there for sure would be a LOT of pressure from her own fans. FAMI probably got more followers than all other combined, and an early reveal could force them to pick her. That's why Aja and Crash with the guy were by many considered favourites. Until the reveal...
Maybe the opposite happened......Fami didn't want to published her audition because there was a chance that she wouldn't be accepted.......the management couldn't known that Fami was going to audition to told her not to publish it (as the other did)....who knows.....
Hey Glenn and Adrian, interesting reaction - I hope you'll find live performances to hear the differencies/similarities between Miho and Fami.
The first real challenge was the first release of KAHG "The Hammer Of Wrath" on July 15th, 2023. I wanted to compare, went back to a Miho performance of that song, and I learned, that they were much more similar than I remembered them to be! Even the choreography was the same. Now, I no longer compare them, they are both great (and can play whatever they want!)...
P.S.: Could also be July 16th, as the day breaks earlier in Japan!
The only band member that doesn’t speak English at all, is drummer Haruna, Asami and Midori are pretty fluent in English, and Miyako has a basic understanding of English.
Does Fami know any English? I haven't heard her use any.
Lovebites chose the bassist with the greatest social media reach. It remains to be seen whether this was a good decision in the long run. Fami is great, no question, but she is 12 years younger than all the other band members. She wasn't my favorite. But I can understand that they took a woman who was good and had social media reach. Is that good? We'll see.
