I visited this island in May of 2010. I was in Reedville Virginia for 5 days before I could catch a ferry over to this island. Because, until the season picks up, the ferry does not travel to the island until it sells 25 tickets, at that time were $25 each. This was the most interesting vacation I had ever been on, even though you only get to stay on the island if you take the ferry over for only 3 hours, unless you stayed in one of their three bed and breakfasts. it was well worth going. It is very sad although there's still a lot left of this island, it is eroding away.
How did you like Reedville? The island was really neat, and gets really quiet once the ferry boat leaves.
@@RiggingDoctor I loved it, I live six hours from there, so I didn't get to grow up around the ocean. I never saw the ocean until I was 26 years old, and that was Gulfport, Mississippi. but through the years after that I went to the beach and on and off I absolutely hated Virginia Beach, but I loved Myrtle Beach. So when I got to go to Reidsville , I was impressed more than anything I had ever seen or done. I also got to see the Smith lighthouse which was a very unique and surprising extra. My ex husband's family lives there, so we went there on our honeymoon but it took us a week to go over to the island. I only got to stay for three hours but I was quite impressed..

Neat little island. I bet you guys will miss Mr. Mortimer when you are on passage...we will too. It seems your vids are progressively improving. I appreciate your effort with the music, that was nice. I have a couple of constructive comments if I may? Try getting a Dead Cat for your microphone. The Dead Cat windshield is designed for minimizing any wind noise when recording in high wind conditions. Second, you need to work on image stabilization. A hand held 3-axis brushless gimbal stabilizer would do wonders for your videos. I know they are expensive but it will help your channel grow! Thanks for your hard work.
+Tim K those are really good suggestions. We definitely want that equipment, but we are still working on saving up for it. As the channel grows and we make more money/gain more patrons, we'll be able to improve those things. Thanks for sticking with us as we work to improve :)
My Wife and I are probably gonna stop here, Where gonna do a little powerboat Tour from Deltaville north, or something of the sort, do they have slip with power and a shower. Looked beautiful!
Yes, there is a small marina on the island and you will have no problem getting in there with a power boat.

I wish you would have checked out Parks Marina :) I reccomend it highly. about $30 per night and Mr Parks is a Tangier Waterman to his core.

There are some west coast towns that are similar, but newer, in the SF Bay Area. Not quite so isolated and unique.

Not having a motor for your dinghy is ridiculous! It limits your potential enjoyment and access. It’s not safe with just paddles in some conditions.
It’s also a pain in the ass especially with a relatively deep drafted boat. Before you hit the Bahamas it’s MANDATORY! Don’t mean to be critical but it’s for your own safety and enjoyment! Great series guys!

I keep hearing about the island/s sinking but never hear about the displacement of sediment. Dredging is constantly being done but never talked about as sediment displacement being a source of rising water levels. Just makes sense that if dredging is being done that sediment is filling in our bodies of water. On the river we have lived on for 40 years the depths have gotten shallower and the level of the river has gotten higher up on the beach by just about the same level as the depths have gotten shallower.
Never really thought about where the sinking island sediment was going!

Maybe you need an ear bud plugged in so you (the cameraperson) can hear audio quality and stop rotating the mic (camera) where audio has the least resistance. Or your partner could have the ear bud and give the narrator hand signals, so you do not deal with doppler...
Is there NO cell phone service on the island? it is actually more remote than perhaps half of the Everglades National Park which has cell service around it's fringes.
From time lapsed (by decades) photos my late father showed me of a light house near where he grew up on the Chesapeake Bay (and other data) it may be tectonic plate activity and a subscession zone at play there - hard to argue with geologic progression - a pretty unremitting foe!
Two words: life jackets :-(
+Lotophagi we carry them in the dinghy and we are both good swimmers. Also, the water gets shallow fast, if we hopped out of the dinghy, we could have just walked the dinghy in without getting our shirts wet!
life jackets are pointless unless they are worn...
