  • I am trying to tick off running at as many 50 Different Parkrun UK Venues that I can. One that caught my eye and one that I had never ran before was Selby Parkrun , just over 35 miles away from my home. It is held on the perimeter track of an old RAF Airfield at Burn about 5 miles to the south of Selby North Yorkshire. The Burn Airfield was a base for heavy duty bombers during the second World War, particularly from 1942-1944. I set off for Burn Airfield early around 7.10am arriving in good time around 8am. I was greeted by John who was the Parkrun Run Director for the day. The course starts on lovely smooth tarmac for just over 1.5K, the run then continues on a rough trail path with a mixture of gravel, mud & concrete to the turnaround point of 2.5k. The course is an out and back course so it follows the reverse route as described above, finishing on that nice smooth tarmac. However it had rained intensely during the night so the rough ground had a lot of puddles to negotiate. A strong headwind on some parts of the course was also a factor on the day. During my last 10 Parkruns (As I try to regain my fitness after a long injury) I have recorded times between 27.03 - 29.44 which is some way off from my PB of 21.28 recorded in March 23 at Doddington. So this Parkrun at Selby was to gauge where I was as I try to regain my fitness levels. I was very pleased to record a finishing time of 25.01 which I was really happy with and confirmed my fitness was travelling in the right direction. I also had the added bonus of finishing 1st in my age group 65-69. To celebrate I had a well deserved Coffee and a Mars Bar at the event. Hope you enjoy the video guys and please give it a like if you do!

We did the inaugural there as it was the only event on in the area that day. Great information about the men who flew from there and sadly never returned.

Just looked at the results for that first Selby event and saw that there were 300 runners & John ran an awesome sub 20 . I always try & give a little insight into the venue if I can but you guys are masters at that. Thanks for watching Mr & Mrs B

It was once off the smooth Tarmac Stu but not too bad to be honest. I've known worse
