- The Divitt practice mute is a brand new 3D printed trumpet mute made by Divitt Trumpets in Canada. I also share some mystery mutes from an Ebay auction.
You can pick up the new Divitt practice mute from Josh Landress Brass or Austin Custom Brass.

Josh what what is the most quiet mute and what is the most in tune practice mute and which one has the least back pressure- Thanks Josh. Very much enjoy your videos
Thank you! That's a great question, tough to narrow it down to a single one due to individual preferences and the variables of different horns. Off the top of my head a few of my fav are: Sshhmute, Silent Brass (new model, not old), Stomvi UpMute, Voigt Brass, Maslet (if you can find one - similar to Voight Brass) - those are all great options that are quite soft, not too much back pressure, and play very well in tune. This is a category of mutes I still believe has room for significant improvement and innovation ... the perfect practice mute is still yet to be made, IMO. But there are many excellent options.
Soo cool and informative pleasant video, and so few likes. Subscribed!
Btw, I am experimenting with the trumpet sound, and changing it with the use of mutes. So far so only found out that there are 3 common types of mutes changing trumpet's sound in some way (not just practice mutes) - cup, straight, and Hammond. Are there any other types of mutes changing the sound in maybe extreme ways. Thank you
Hi - thank you! Yes, a LOT of different types of mutes. Bucket, solotone, wah, buzz, pixie, different materials, and lots of other unique (and often vintage) ones. I've got 38 different mute monday video, so check the playlist! Also, check out the link to my mute handbook - it has a LOT of information.
The cup mute looks like someone experimented with a Shastock Tonalcolor. Re-painted and -corked, flocked the cup. Maybe the cup shape is a little flatter. My first thought was that the shape reminded me of the Emo Hush, but that's plastic.
The Divitt is cool. I have a Wallace Studio, even shinier blue ;)
How about this cup that Snooky is playing in my favourite Lil Darlin? Although it looks like that mute might be metal from the silver flashes from the base corners: ua-cam.com/video/RlX0b-AJWz4/v-deo.html
Yeah, gotta love Snooky! That's def a metal bottom, possibly an Ullven cup? Or another obscure one.
Yeah, I had thought that originally, but it's definitely not a Shastock cup, old or new, I've got plenty to compare it to. It may have been modeled after the Shastock, but it looks to be different enough to not be.
Any chance of comparing pixie mutes? Main contenders seem to be Wick Eb straight mute, Best Brass Straight Mini, Tom Crown Pixie, Stonelined, or the vintage Conn if you can find one.
I'll get to it soon! I only have a few pixie mutes at the moment, once I've got a few more I'll do one.
I have a Harmon, two or three vintage pixies, and soon (fingers crossed) the Huber Kellso Pixie.
I'll order the Wick this next week, and look into some of the others.
@@JoshRzepkaMusic Awesome I'll look forward to that one! I got a Humes & Berg 122 short straight mute and low notes are beyond slippery, but seeing some other youtube videos showed that pixies can work in all registers. The Huber Kellso looks interesting and affordable, I hadn't heared of them. Thanks
I liked the unidentified harmon style a lot
It's a very unique design!
How would you compare the divitt to the stomvi upmute?
Oh, totally different. Divitt is quite a bit louder. They are both quite free blowing, but the feel and articulation are a little different too. As it’s quieter and more compact (could fit in bell in some cases) I’d take the Stomvi on the road and use in situations where soft volume is very important.
@@JoshRzepkaMusic Thanks brother! really appreciate the feedback. awesome to see what steady practice and commitment can create. you're playing is awesome
Thank you!! 🙏🙏 I appreciate you stopping by, checking out my vids, and commenting!
Yes!! It’s all about consistency and commitment.
Keep on keepin on!
I didnt like the 3d printed one that much but i would like it in a setting where i need to be really really quiet tho
Yeah, it's really designed to be used when you can't play loud. Perfect for that late practice session.
Why else would you use a PRACTICE mute??
@@radiantmind8729 some could be used in performance, depends on the venue and piece. Especially ones that aren't completely silent.
@@JoshRzepkaMusic amen.
first
Nice! Any idea what the mystery mutes are?
@@JoshRzepkaMusic Not really if I'm completely honest, I'm not really all that into mutes. Can't afford them anyway :P
I want the Divitt, but it’s not even on their own website. How do I get one?
Just talked to Ewan, he said to contact through his website, or you can try Austin Custom Brass (but they currently have a wait list).
@@JoshRzepkaMusic Thanks, Josh. I did end up preordering one from Austin Custom Brass. Apparently he can't keep them on the shelves!
