Ajahn doesnt instruct out of his ego. So he is very right: people should most of all trust themselves instead of listen to gurus, preachers and so forth. The wisdom necessary is inate in every being, is his point. He also always talks about how the audience doesnt have to listen to what he says if the message doesnt resonate with them...

I always laugh at these folks, "don't listen to any one" then tell you how to live.
They're not telling anyone to do anything. None of those people have to be there or watch. He's teaching wisdom to people smart enough to want it.
