Thanks so much for this video, best homemade greasetrap design I have ever seen! And a perfect video too, not too slow, not too fast :) I also appreciated the end where you show it in action 👍
Nice system. I only would take a T- pipe as an out-pipe so you avoid getting a siphon-effect and air can pass through the pipe downwards to your green zone. such a long pipe towards your garden creates a powerfull suction effect and might suck out your container.
Looking nice, very inventive and creative at special the skimmer !!!. Only one question, are you gone use it in the winter ? If so isn’t there a risk of the outlet pipe freezing shut?
Hi Dirk! Only one way to find out! lol.. wait and see. :) So far it hasnt but we will see. We do get below freezing temps but i dont think low enough to freeze 15lt of water. Having said that i do plan to buuild a little cupboard around it mostly for aesthetic purposes but maybe i should insulate it once i do.
Hi! Great video! Clear, concise, with no nonsense. You’ve given me the solution for an ongoing problem. One question. Could you please tell me what you used for the food particle filter? Thanks and keep up the great work.
How much grease actually comes out? We tend to wipe down our plates to the compost container, and use paper towels on greasy stuff. Certainly interesting to know how much comes out a typical property. People tend to think fatbergs are from one idiot pouring down their deep fat fryer, but I assume it's just residual build up over time from many.
Just going back to finish the ones I missed. Good on you! Xx
Great idea and nicely done 👍 the asperges will be happy 😉

It's been a couple of years and it hasn't done that 😄

Very practical. Thank you. But what happens with the grease and oil you collect?
For now I take it to our local oil recycling centre.

Fairy liquid is not bad for the plants and that is what we use

Not much at all to be honest as we too wipe everything down before washing
25 mm difference will it be ok if the inlet /outlet are at same horizontal level
The outlet has to be slightly lower
Do you cook with the grease afterwards?
Slightly tongue in cheek, but wonder what you do with it. Put it in the worm bin?
No we drop it off at our local oil recycling collection point
Brilliant informative video Luke 👍👏 Is it necessary to use the grey pvc pipe or could I use say 50mm OD /40mm ID black irrigation pipe?
I guess you could.. good luck 😀
What can I used the grease to do
I take ours to the local recycling centre but I guess you could look into making biodiesel.
What materials that are needed plss let me know 😊
The materials are mentioned in the video😁
What do you do with the oil
We drop it off at the recycling centre
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring alas we have no recycling center where I'm from. Do you have any suggestions on how else to use it?
Make biodiesel 😎 or ask your local restaurant how they dispose of their oils and grease.
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring ha! my local restaurant probably tosses theirs in the nearest gutter!
I was a chef and in 25 years and many restaurants we never did that. By law you have to a grease trap..there must be somewhere you can drop it off.
Ahhh, it is an oil trap, then.
