    In this video I show you how i built a little mulcher with an old strimmer engine and a washing machine drum. It worked out pretty well but make sure you watch till the end because i did end up making a few little changes.
    I do want to get an electric one I can run off of our solar eventually but for now this will do the job. The fuel we are saving by using the kebtek electric shears to clear land instead of our strimmer is now allocated to this mulcher so at least we are not using more fuel than before.
    If you do decide to build one, you and you alone are responsible for your safety! Thanks for watching!

    A great use of "stuff" that you were hoarding!!!
    Much better than having to burn everything.
    Look forward to your next build

    The cycle powered washing machine attempt was awesome. I love the use of the "rubbish". I know so many people my age that simply throw away so many nice things. Always appreciate a resourceful and frugal mind. Great job!

    Hey Luke…. Insane machine… 😉 just count your fingers at the end of the day using it… if you still count 10 fingers… you're good to go for the next day… 😊 and also looks like a nice ice crusher for cocktails… just dropping some tips… ;-)

      IDK if you did that ending for digit-al finish ohhhh weak that was but the "dropping some tips" I could take as a followup inline → to counting fingers

    Interesting. If you made the throttle like a pedal you could power it up when needed instead of running it flat chat. It would use less fuel I guess too. My Line trimmer hates being run 100% without resting it.

    Genius! Love your new diy mulcher! I also love turning junk into useful things. All that mulch is going to be great for your veg garden. 💕 😘

      Small idea i woke up with: you could cover the holes on the side of the drum facing the motor so less dust and stuff gets into it 😜. Some duct tape would probably work or a sheet of plastic or scrap metal screwed to it. 💕

  • @jazzswinglish
    @jazzswinglish 2 роки тому +2

    What a great use of old stuff. Not sure if it is necessary or would work but how about fitting some sort of blades around the drum to give a finer mulch.

  • @TheHuntermj
    @TheHuntermj 2 роки тому +1

    If you attach a piece of tube that goes down to just before the blades you should be able to mulch the sticks too!

    Fantastic job!! what a great idea. Are you going to do all the bushes like the stems? Maybe there is a way to get it all kinda in one place and not having it blow all over.. Just wondering if there is another way to keep it all in one space

    • @OffGriddingOnAShoestring
      @OffGriddingOnAShoestring  2 роки тому +2

      Hi michele.. the stems we will use for biochar and many more things we will be trying out. The leaves we are mulching we want it spread over the terraces. Hopefully will be able to sow some cover crops soon.

    That washing machine drum looks awfully flimsy compared to the drum I have. I got my drum from an old top loading washing machine, USA made. It's solid steel, and I don't think any such usage would damage it so quickly, if at all.

    Well I sure don't know how I missed this! Today in one of the video's, yes, with BluEtti, Luke mentioned a washing machine. I know I haven't seen him on the bike in like forever, THAT CRACKED ME UP!, (actually it looked like something my Dad would rig up and make his 2 daughters use). Anyway, this is Brilliant! Is it still usable? Just wondering.

      No it's been out of commission...the washing machine drum got all smashed after a month of heavy usage 🤣

    But by the time you can spend the money on the parts you have if you don’t have them or the time it takes to build that you could save the money on the parts and work a few extra hours on your job and buy a brand new one.
    I mean, even Amazon has one for $130 bucks.
    Idk, that’s just me.
