How I Built A Shelter for Under $300
Spot on vid! I have a few logs to start milling. Was originally planning to take them to the sawmill but than thankfully doscovered freehand milling! Thanks for the tips.
Useful tutorial. Helps to see a newbee doing it. Are you using a rip chain on that small bar???
Normal chain but sharpened teeth at 10°
"Your hope" ( i.e., "hope you got something out of it") definitely came true. Thank you for clarifying many things about the inventors discovery and methodology as well as some very import extras that you added and are highly relevant. This one on one tutorial is extremely helpful. Your an excellent teacher.
Thanks Richard ❤️
yep good review - tips Carlton makes some great rip chains
It dulls the chain faster
If there is sand on the bark yes
Thanks . Good and easy Idea .
Thank you for this! Exactly what I needed as a first timer! Appreciate you sharing
My only observation is I’d cut standing on the side I’m removing the slab (if that makes sense), it’s just that by leaning over the log (the way they show), your centre of gravity is leaning to the other side, reaching away from you.. Much harder on your back. Your final comment on making your last cut is valid, I’d utilise that idea to make your initial score when starting, then cut being on the slab side first. Avoiding leaning over the log is going to improve balance and centre of gravity, I think that’s why your student ended up hunched over as he was tiring.. Thanks though, I’ll definitely give it a crack myself.. Cheer’s
Amazing that it adhered so well.
Crete baby Crete!!! ❤❤🤣🤣
👍💪🎉
❤❤❤ first 😊
This was weird, we had been collecting sea glass the day before and had said we only wish there was a way to make it and up pops your vlog! A new business idea - cleaning other people cement mixers whilst making you lots of sea glass 😂
😂
beautiful
Great work guys
i learned that trick from my mom. i'm 67, so it was a ways back. cool to see people still doing it. thank you for that memory.
i am not knocking you. i have had four strokes.watching you do this is going to be fun. saftey is a good thing. still do some things. and saftey is a lot to me now.
Great idea 👍👍👍
What a lovely idea!
Fantastic, man. Well done that. Very cool. Thank you. All the best to you and Diana, of course.
Many thanks!
We make wind chimes out of them.😊😊
Love that x
Now I got this notification! I have some sea glass. Have Y'all done this before? ❤❤
Yes we have
Very nice. What a great idea. I will keep that in mind and maybe try it myself one day. Thank you!
@christiankammer2379 Just use the smallest drill bit (we use fishing line) and go real slow with water sprinkled on the glass. If you go to fast, CRACK!
Thanks brother
Every time I see finish going on olive wood, I am amazed. I found your channel yesterday and very much appreciate what you are doing and what you are sharing with us.
Thanks bob ! ❤️
Nice job thank you
Thats amazing. God bless you : )
Well done, I chickened and bought the tool. I also needed by make circled. Had I seen this before I would probably not have bought the tool. There is a delay for the tool to arrive and so on. 😁
Do you have a link for the tool? How much was it?
Thank you! A few of the Eucalypts that I will put thru my portable are too big to fit; now I know how I can make them smaller!
Been watching your chainsaw milling vids. Off topic here but was hoping you could answer a quick question about that. Would it be a bad idea to practice with a non-ripper chain until I can get my hands on one?
Hi you can do it with a normal chain but if you sharpen your chain at 10 degrees it is more efficient
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring Thank you for responding. I am just looking to clamshell some logs accurately so I might just roll with what I have.
Stihl saws are great! I mill with a big husqvarna but we use 261s at work (I'm a climbing arborist) and those saws are amazing for their size 🎉
Can remember how you done it can I aquaire a template section cuts drawings blueprint
There were no drawings done ! I winged it. 🤣🤣
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring hahah still awesome though bro
I know you were really upset about the beams fie your outdoor kitchen. Well I thought of an idea what if you use rocks and small boulders in a wire cage? Like Cindy Vine is doing for her gate. You have an abundance of rocks. You could stack up a bunch then put the cage around it. Use something to reinforce like rebar, cement almost like a corner wall or a door frame. Sorry I think outside the box. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks for your suggestion Marlene but for now we have decided to put all our energy, time and money into restoring our ruin... Finally 🤣
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring that's wonderful the ruin is going forward and it makes more sense. Let the adventure begin!!!
Nice system. I only would take a T- pipe as an out-pipe so you avoid getting a siphon-effect and air can pass through the pipe downwards to your green zone. such a long pipe towards your garden creates a powerfull suction effect and might suck out your container.
It's been a couple of years and it hasn't done that 😄
Only another 999 to go
🤣
Sarah i would love to see you cooking
🤣🤣 That would be a funny video. Luke the chef does most to all of the cooking. I am terrible at cooking..no creativity whatsoever
Awesome technique guys
Brother, can't we do this from the regular chain? Or is it necessary to ripping chain ?. I watched all your freehand chainsaw milling they're very interesting. Great explanation. You're a very good teacher. Thanks you very much. God bless. Well wishes and love you from faraway srilanka. ❤❤
Hi.. yes I sometimes use my normal chain to mill when I'm in a hurry.. slightly less efficient but still ok. Thanks for your kind words ❤️
Thank you very much for your quick response ❤❤.
Well done, what have you done to reduce Noise. And what does it Work with sugar Cane vagase.
Ear protection 🤣
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring I ask because we live in Mérida Venezuela. Neibours live very close.
rub vegetable oil on the boards first and they will come apart easier.
Muito bem feito!
A longer blade with a ripping chain is easier on the back
Indeed
Hi Sarah and Luke, it's the first time I see this technique of self watering raised bed. I'm thinking very hard about trying one self watering raised bed this year. I can see Luke in the picture next to the greens growing out of the bed. Is that rocket? Thank You for sharing.
Hi.. yes that's rocket
Great job. You are created.
Very ingenious project! Reduce, reuse, and recycle my favorite motto. Great video. The water from overflow pipe would provide excellent compost tea!!
Such a great idea and I am sure that you will get a few years of use with little if any cost for the project. Having been a residential recycler for several years and scrapped out, and I would say Hundreds upon hundreds of refrigerators encountering many home Gardeners whom I am sure would have loved such a great idea 💡😉. Happy that I have come to another channel or yours. Thank you 👍
I like this! I'd have to buy junk to make it!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your salade bar in the other old fridge, did already great.... what did you planted this time Sarah?
Rocket again because the sun was too strong for it and it went to seed quite early and this fridge has much more shade 😁
Sorry for the silly question, but what is a wicking bed? 🙈 what is it for, and what's the advantage? 😊
It's a self watering bed.. so you fill the reservoir and the plants take the water they need.
@@OffGriddingOnAShoestring Ahh okay, thanks 😊 what will you grow in there as your first thing?
Could you harvest water from the roof to water the bed? I know that is rain dependent. Do you get enough rain for that to be viable?
Just planted some rocket
It's not rain dependent. You just fill up the reservoir every week or so
You have fern growing and summer is here? There's likely water under that area.
There is for sure
@OffGriddingOnAShoestring I'd be too curious and I'd be there with the auger trying to make a hole. 😆
