    Dang. I had no idea Fusion was this powerful. What fun! Thanks!!!

  • @johnfromleeds

    It is incredible that this capability is in a free product. The problem is that it is so powerful that people new to Davinci Resolve, like me, don't know where to start. The promised Fusion book by Black Magic hasn't materialised and the massive user guide is great if you know what you are looking for. Your videos are brilliant to show techniques and point us in the right direction. The onus is on us to do the grunt work to understand fusion better. Thank you for these videos and keep up the good work.

      Completely agree! Oh and by the way the official training books are now free to download from BMD.

      @@saadshah7857 Thank you so much for alerting me to these!!! I've downloaded the 5 PDFs and had a quick look at the fusion one. I am even more impressed with Black Magic Design for providing these for free. That's my summer sorted!!! Once again, THANK YOU.

      @@johnfromleeds Haha, I paid for those books and ordered from Amazon before. Not a waste as I like having a physical copy for reference. Dont forget to download the practice files for those books too.

    • @johnfromleeds
      @johnfromleeds 5 років тому

      @@saadshah7857 I bought the original book for about £35 off Amazon and am blown away that the other 4 can be downloaded for free. I've downloaded the sample files and started working my way through the fusion projects and am chuffed to bits. The only downside is that I foolishly installed the 16 public beta and was getting the dreaded GPU full error which meant uninstalling and reinstalled Davinci 15.
      I can only assume the Black Magic must be making most of their money from the hardware side of things and the studio version.
      I've been in IT related industries since 1982 and I've never seen such a professional and powerful product given away for free. And they are even giving their books away for free which many companies use as a revenue earner.
      I will buy the studio version once I'm proficient in Davinci Resolve. Not because I need it but I like to have all features available and BMD deserve my $299 for this great product.

    Thanks a lot for this excellent tutorial!
    Not only did I, as a layman, succeed in making my very own odomoter/countdown for future use on my channel. The tutorial also has a lot of insightful explanations on how the software works in general. That knowledge adds up in the long run and makes every new project a little bit easier.

    Awesome JAY, for some reason my numbers are spinning even I choose Zero if I have Spin set to a value above Zero. I can't find any flaws in the expression. CustomTool1.NumberIn1*36+(CustomTool1.NumberIn4*360)
    If spin is set to 0 a 0 in NumberIn1 shouldn't spin in my book when reading the expression. Any Idea?

    @JayAreTV do you have any idea why color affects the depth so much? The lighter the color, the more, let's call it extrusion effect, you have.

    You're doing terrific work with these videos! They're very watchable and are really informative. Great structure, pacing and level of detail. Well done, sir. This video was particularly useful and well timed for something I'm working on. I was able to create a macro of the working Odometer merged with a title using the technique you described in your recent video on reusing Fusion comps. :)

    Hey Jay! I am really struggling with something wondering if there is a quick way to do it. I have some footage of an airplane that is pretty shaky. I'd like to track it then composite the airplane to another clip which is just a red line showing the flight path. How can I essentially planar track hybrid, then steady, then paste that shot on top of the clip I made with the red line. It's a steady downward slope for a landing so I want it to start high and end low so the steadied airplane needs to follow the red line

    I am shocked you can do this in Fusion. You open my eyes with every new video! My question is HOW do you even go about knowing some of these things? Settings, methods to do things, etc. all seems like it makes sense in the end, but when you start you don't know what you don't know. How can you know about a property of a node to make a various adjustment, or that there is even a node for something specific? Are these sort of common elements that you've learned over the years of video editing, or new within fusion?

    • @tshansen
      @tshansen 5 років тому +1

      Great question, I wondering the same.... when you look at it at the end, it all makes sense, but if i start from the beginning.... everything is unknown :-P

    • @saadshah7857

      I was reading the user manual the other day and right at the start of the Fusion section, it says that the manual refers to most of the basics of the features and functions and the rest should be easy to figure out on your own by trying things out. I have since read the official Resolve training books and watched the video tutorials made by BMD. It's pretty clear that there is no complete training where everything is explained and shown with examples. The only sure way to learn, at least for me, is to take a node or feature and deep dive into it and tweak all its parameters and figure out what it's doing. I recommend the same to you. And yes, it's very time consuming! Maybe as Resolve will mature, we will get more training materials like Adobe products have.

    In the Expressions, what would have to be added to the equation so that the wheel for 100's advances just one number per ten numbers of the 10's wheel, and so that the 10's wheel also only increases one number per ten numbers on the wheel for 1's?

      @@JayAreTV thanks for the quick reply my question is if I throw an effect on a timeline how do I see the effect afterwards

    • @JayAreTV
      @JayAreTV  5 років тому

      Afterwards? Move the playhead to the location on the timeline the effect was added to. If you are making something within fusion you need to make sure the end of the node tree has the mediaout node connected.

      @@JayAreTV I'm a new user to resolve and the learning curve is very steep but I'm getting by I started using effects yesterday and I added an audio effect to try and clip some of the higher sounds in the timeline so when I initially added the effect the dialog box came up and then I clicked off of it and I wasn't sure how to either remove that effect or adjust it at that point.

    • @JayAreTV
      @JayAreTV  5 років тому +1

      Click on the clip in the timeline > open the inspector in the top right > click audio at the top > scroll down to the effect you added > on the line with the name of the effect you should see 3 lines click that to open the window.
