I began to cry when he said I saw land finally. So many bounties we have around are unknown to us, land is one among them and to bow on land for a moment and thank God, nothing can be more better in the most down to earth position. He is a real hero and a living legend. May God keep him safe and happy forever.❤

I would be stuck in the endless forest for 1 year than out at sea for 1 week. Just the fact that I’m restrained to a 6 foot fragile circle surrounded by guaranteed death would give me a heart attack. Let alone looking in the eyes of a shark knowing it could easily horrifyingly manhandle and dismember me while drowning me simultaneously. Dudes a legend

What I love is, you could meet this dude on the street and have NO idea that he has this incredible story that he experienced, no idea of what a badass survivor he is. That’s why I always love to talk to people and hear their stories….you just never know…maybe that little old lady was a WASP during WWII, or maybe that man with an accent has a story of escaping his war-torn country and saving his neighbors too.

the fact that after so long being at sea and fighting the odds to finally be found by fishermen, when he fell on the sand finally at land it even shook my heart. nobody can imagine what going through this is like having such times of no hope and then suddenly using the human brain to fix, repair, survive and get ideas leading to survival. humans are amazing and i hope this man got to live his life after this horrifying experience which hopefully taught him some good too!

One can only admire the sheer willpower that it must have taken simply to remain alive for so long in such a hostile, dangerous and exposed environment!
Mr. Callahan's inventiveness, together with his ability to find the means to keep going psychologically and physically irrespective of his despair and severely malnourished and dehydrated condition is testimony to the magnitude of his humanity and his love of life and of his beloved family.
His is a story way beyond what any Sailor could ever imagine might befall them aboard a small sailboat at sea!
Whilst it's true that he learned a considerable amount about every aspect of liferaft design and construction, catching fish, distilling water, food and water management, improvisation and isolation, the thing that he learned the most about above all others, was himself!

I am boarding ships for years since I was little since its our transportation from the province to the city where I studied college. With all those years and even now, I have my fair share of story about navigating through a bad storm and all that huge waves that crashes in and out if the vessels balcony. I even experienced being moved to the other side of the ship just to balance out the tilting ship. With all these experience we are blessed enough to land to the port safely. Even tho, watching survival videos has helped a lot. Me and my siblings would always have a bag of survival kit when we are on board. A bag filled of black socks (which my mom would always say that it will prevent us from being eaten by the sharks 😂), a flash light, a wistle, a bottle of water, a can good and other small snacks, and a knife. I know this isnt enought but still, its better to have something to grab on when these unfavorable situation happens.

What an ordeal, and so professionally handled. A mini-version of the Alvarenga story.
Solar stills, by the way, are underestimated. Pretty easy to build, and can be used to obtain drinkable water where this is sparse. I know several settled in warm climates who use them, to great benefit.

Everything was taken to make him give up. Im going to use this experience for things in my life.
Mans was in the middle of vast water, losing everything; if he decided he had no hope, then he wouldve had no hope and died on his own.
Can use this for many instances.
