I began to cry when he said I saw land finally. So many bounties we have around are unknown to us, land is one among them and to bow on land for a moment and thank God, nothing can be more better in the most down to earth position. He is a real hero and a living legend. May God keep him safe and happy forever.❤
“A view of heaven from a seat in hell.” It’s amazing what beautiful quotes come from great turmoil and suffering.
Steven's story is one of the most remarkable and heroic I've seen on this channel.
He was saved by a combination of willpower, wits, and stamina. What a man!
The Human Spirit to survive is amazing. Steve, I highly doubt you’ll see this but you are an amazing human.
I would be stuck in the endless forest for 1 year than out at sea for 1 week. Just the fact that I’m restrained to a 6 foot fragile circle surrounded by guaranteed death would give me a heart attack. Let alone looking in the eyes of a shark knowing it could easily horrifyingly manhandle and dismember me while drowning me simultaneously. Dudes a legend
He was incredibly resourceful in finding ways to stay alive
I still can’t believe he ate raw fish to survive!
Well, he had plenty of time to figure it out.
shout out to the camera man who's been with him the entire journey
hahaha
Fr tho I said this on a video and all I got was.

🤔😂😂😂amen!
😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shout out to the fish for feeding him 🤦♂️
I loved that book and movie “the life of pi”…so good! Now I want to read “Adrift”.
What I love is, you could meet this dude on the street and have NO idea that he has this incredible story that he experienced, no idea of what a badass survivor he is. That’s why I always love to talk to people and hear their stories….you just never know…maybe that little old lady was a WASP during WWII, or maybe that man with an accent has a story of escaping his war-torn country and saving his neighbors too.
the fact that after so long being at sea and fighting the odds to finally be found by fishermen, when he fell on the sand finally at land it even shook my heart. nobody can imagine what going through this is like having such times of no hope and then suddenly using the human brain to fix, repair, survive and get ideas leading to survival. humans are amazing and i hope this man got to live his life after this horrifying experience which hopefully taught him some good too!
incredible story. Up there with the greatest survival stories of all time.
Yeah, I would have committed suicide if I was in his position
Read the book "expirement in survival"... another amazing true story
Agree., ever since seeing this some years ago, never forgot it as the most fascinating ever saw. Angel send from the Father, Jesus was with him but by his own strength and fortitude and ingenuity - wow most inspiring.
How about that cook they found alive in the boat at the bottom of the ocean
Its kind of common for people in the Caribbean only feat was he was white
This is one of the most amazing survival story I've ever heard. God was with this man, thankfully he was incredibly intelligent and resourceful with what he had.
@jabba3 im sorry but this man really went through something that broke him, humbled him, then a boat showed up to save him. That boat came just in time. If you don't believe in God, and can't see the amazing things he does when all hope is lost, I'll pray for you but you can also keep scrolling.
@@staciarenee2982 it was his will power and survival instincts that saved him. not no “god” lol. you’re brainwashed x
Your God is kinda bad...
@jabba3 Yes, God was with him. I do believe that.
Some folks might say God gave him this experience. So he could become a teacher and share his experience ans insights from the sea. Who knows how many folks he inspired.
Tears to my eyes.
This was one of the first books i ever read by choice, incredible. You hear about peoples kids being their driving force to survive. Steve just had no quit (as i remember it)
Having been an outdoorsman myself, I recall being very absorbed in reading his book in the late 80's. Great to now see a video of Steven relaying his story so many years later.
Adrift is one of the great sea stories of all time. I really enjoyed reading Steven Callahan's book because I'm a total nut for sea stories. It was so impressive, I wrote a blog post about it and made a video book review on my UA-cam channel.
I wish I could get my hands on that book. How alike is this documentary to the recount?
@@laiyinquan8355 This documentary and the book are very similar.
@@seastoriesandsciencefictio4253 Fantastic.
Have you read "Experiment in survival"? About the man that invented the life rafts? He wanted to test them so he floated across the pacific in his homemade raft and survival kit. Theres other stories leading up to his voyage as well.
@@FinznFowl82 Wow. Thanks! The Universe really does work.
Incredible, and heartwarming 👍
This story was incredible..75 days on the ocean .WOW. not to mention he followed the currants estimating where land would b and then wrote a book and was the inspiration for a movie.truly a miracle!!
This should be an advertisement for that life raft
this is all a lobbyist conspiracy story.
@Jose Buselli take a chill pill Jose', its a joke 😆
@@elmortobeats5919 It makes no sense.
@@elmortobeats5919 you mean there was never an Atlantic ocean?
Except that he couldn't drink off of it because the paint was leeching off?...
One can only admire the sheer willpower that it must have taken simply to remain alive for so long in such a hostile, dangerous and exposed environment!
Mr. Callahan's inventiveness, together with his ability to find the means to keep going psychologically and physically irrespective of his despair and severely malnourished and dehydrated condition is testimony to the magnitude of his humanity and his love of life and of his beloved family.
His is a story way beyond what any Sailor could ever imagine might befall them aboard a small sailboat at sea!
Whilst it's true that he learned a considerable amount about every aspect of liferaft design and construction, catching fish, distilling water, food and water management, improvisation and isolation, the thing that he learned the most about above all others, was himself!
He saw the truth. And now, because of his story, we too, have seen a bit of the truth.
This delightful gentleman was very good at telling his incredible story!!! Who knew a life raft had an expiration date? lol
Folks, gotta recommend Steve's book Adrift. It's fantastic and well written--can't put it down.
the fact that steven's story was so impressive they made it twice really shows how insane his feat was
❤❤🕘1111😢PLL
Just wow! Incredible short of survival and human spirit. Big shout out to the actor who was phenomenal and really brought this to life
Such a brave man. I salute him for survive. God bless him. I would Thank those 2 guys who came to Rescue him. Special Thank to the guys who Rescue steven.
In the picture with the rescuers it turns out that is the exact raft that he was in.... even that exact color scheme.
Incredible story of a courageous man the will of a mere man wow
Wow! A super human survival...I love watching episodes like this that make my problems like a whisper in the dark compare to this amazing human survival stories
i am feeling ashamed of myself after seeing this .. i lost my hope ...just by the fear of failure from a exam ....and does not give my best shot in last 30 days ......i am feeling very very disgusting about myself ...this gave me the greatest life lesson till now ......😥😥😥😥very happy that he survived ...
I'm glad this story opened your mind. Hope you are doing well!
to you, the exam may have been very important. feelings don't usually come out of nowhere so if you've felt that way, the struggle may have been significant for you
hope you're doing okay now!
I loved this guys story so much that i emailed him to tell him how much his story helped me! Hes a nice guy. I was supposed to meet him at a boat festival but i wasnt able to make it. He doesnt like to talk about his experience so much anymore. Probably just from repeating himself so much over the years.
What's amazing from this whole story besides his will to survive but just how big the ocean is that you could be out there for 70 some days and not see a ship the whole time!
His intelligence is what saved him.
Wow...so one can survive the ocean like this...2 months? Incredible survival experience.
Yep. Someone survived for over 400 days adrift in the sea
He had fresh water, a life boat, and some other survival tools. MOST people are not that lucky
My hat is off to you Sir! No one these days could make it a week let alone 70 days. God bless you Sir. I was at the ocean a week ago and my that would be terrifying
lol wtf? ya i guess no one would be able to.. lol
@@afgankidd00 You have to wonder how many genders a 20 something would make up in all those days

Did anybody cry ??? I did - so amazing 🌺
I’m *so* Happy that they found him!
I’m surprised no planes or ships saw him. It’s amazing all the things he came up with that saved his life. Amazing survival story.
Ships passed him, didn't c him
A great add on to the first episode , and we learn and are inspired some more on this mans incredible story. Thankyou.
This whole episode was so well put together! Bravo and WELL DONE STEVE. I’ve learned a lot!
Thank you.
The greatest survivors of all time what a brave man
Life of Pi is my favorite movie! I did not know that it was based on Steve Callahan's life..... What an amazing man, and an amazing albeit scary story of survival, and will to survive ❤️
Amazing story of the will to live. When I was a kid I was in the water so much friends called me Aqua Man. Now, at 51, I wouldn't make it out there 76 hours. 76 minutes even.
It’s amazing how creative you become when your life is on the line
90% of the people watching this wouldn't have survived.
I played minecraft.

Awesome story why I’m crying I must get the book we all can hear more of his story out in that water for 76 days …. Remarkable 🥰🙏🏾
The „I shouldn't be alive" episode felt more like a movie, this episode here on Wonder was more down to earth, less dramatic which I personally like more.
So resourceful, smart and brave! Bravo, Steve! Glad you made it!
the stranger who thrust the beer in his hands was a real hero here.
He made it sound upbeat and easy, but that kind of mental strength comprises 3% of the population... If even. His ability to make it sound upbeat is even more of a testament to his mental strength.
Is this a new Stephen callaghan I shouldn't be alive documentary?
I remember watching the other one before a few times with the blonde actor and it was absolutely brilliant.
It looks like they lost the rights to post the "I shouldn't be Alive" series. That video had like 20 million views and it was epic. It's still on dailymotion
Loved the details in rhe interview on this one. Adrift. Now i wanna read this book by Steve Callahan. Glad you survived. Thank you!
I was in the hospital having my first child when this came on…..crazy to think about now 40 years ago
Drifting 2000 miles in 76 days!!! he witnessed heaven in a seat of hell
He was also on I Shouldnt Be Alive, both have tid bits that are astonishing. What an amazing story!
I still don't fully understand how the fork worked to close the rip in the raft.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Go play with what he mentioned that he had to use. See what you come up with. It''ll be FUN!
Absolutely amazing story! Congratulations on your determination
Absolutely breathtaking story...most ppl will consider this man's experience unlucky but for those of us that know the magnificence of our maker, knows how powerful this experience must of been. What an aging testimony...imagine how ud feel to b completely cut off from ALL of today's society and the modern gadgets we surround ourselves with to all of a sudden being surrounded by nothing but God and His creation. Something so simple but so spiritually deep that words just can't describe
"...surrounded by nothing but God and His creation" as he discerned that God was also within.
A real hero and legend, a true survival story, kudos
I was crying when they found him
I've seen all four seasons of I shouldn't be alive and this was the craziest one to me. This guy was very smart the way he stayed alive that long. Made very few bad decisions in fact I would say he didn't do anything wrong, the fish popping his raft was a weird accident and he wasn't doing anything wrong.
I am boarding ships for years since I was little since its our transportation from the province to the city where I studied college. With all those years and even now, I have my fair share of story about navigating through a bad storm and all that huge waves that crashes in and out if the vessels balcony. I even experienced being moved to the other side of the ship just to balance out the tilting ship. With all these experience we are blessed enough to land to the port safely. Even tho, watching survival videos has helped a lot. Me and my siblings would always have a bag of survival kit when we are on board. A bag filled of black socks (which my mom would always say that it will prevent us from being eaten by the sharks 😂), a flash light, a wistle, a bottle of water, a can good and other small snacks, and a knife. I know this isnt enought but still, its better to have something to grab on when these unfavorable situation happens.
Ilokano, What an interesting life experience you've had! Have you written it out? I bet many of us want to know more.
The only idea I could have was saving like the snacks in the survival kit has like a last resort and getting yourself used to the food in the ocean before you start eating everything you have, but I wouldn’t be able to do that. I just eat everything I have. 😂
Reminds me of the movie castaway. God answered the prayers of his parents and loved ones. Amazing story
I’m glad I seen this today
I wonder how many people have survived lost at sea for much longer than anyone ever (found), and with amazing stories of survival but just wasn’t ever rescued. We will never know….
It is scary to realize I would die if put in the same position being an alcoholic and dehydrated unable to sleep blood pressure is messed up wow life is soo short this man is a legend for surviving in a raft
What an ordeal, and so professionally handled. A mini-version of the Alvarenga story.
Solar stills, by the way, are underestimated. Pretty easy to build, and can be used to obtain drinkable water where this is sparse. I know several settled in warm climates who use them, to great benefit.
By far my favourite I should be alive episode
Fancy seeing him again
9:29 that smile
18:21 that song is amazing
18:24 fish fish fish
This was extremely inspiring!!!
11 weeks is a long long time, and I love all the survival stories , som of which are much much longer.
Wow! What an incredible story! This has really touched me. What a strong person he is. 😅
If this interests you, read the book, "Experiment in survival" great read, not a long book but incredible true story.
Everything was taken to make him give up. Im going to use this experience for things in my life.
Mans was in the middle of vast water, losing everything; if he decided he had no hope, then he wouldve had no hope and died on his own.
Can use this for many instances.
I don't need Bear Grylls to teach me survival. Give me this guy!

Callaghan’s story is one that resonated with me when I first heard it. I somehow was able to vividly put myself in that same situation mentally for some reason.
is this a feature film? if not, why not? I found the other longer one and it was missing a lot of the details in this one, but more emotionally resonant. Would love to see something combining both aspects with some great dramatic photography, background story, etc
The longer vid is much more emotional
This was so gripping I didn’t want it to be over!
