Thanks so much and wonderful tip! In all honesty this is something that I do normally remember but I was filming that portion of the video LIVE and didn't have any on hand. great catch and thanks for keeping me honest.
That deck looks very nice. Top notch. I watched about 2 1/2 hours of the live feed but I’m glad to see the recap. And screw the haters thinking you sold out. Thanks Brent!
Your construction videos are absolutely inspiring! The way you break down each step with such clarity and precision makes even the most complex projects seem achievable. Your passion and dedication to your craft shine through in every video, and it's truly motivating to see someone so skilled and enthusiastic about what they do.
I assure you I wouldn't take money from a company unless I felt extremely confident in the product and it being a benefit to the viewer. I showcase them in one or two videos a year and hopefully it helps you as the viewer in the end. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching.
At the 7:05 mark: To make the blocking easily the same you can pit a piece if painters tape on the right side of the chop saw framing and mark it with a sharpie. That way you don't have to measure every piece of blocking. Or clamp another piece of wood there as a jig stop.
You need better protection for the joists than just tape. Tape will breakdown from UV exposure. I use an aluminum cap over a double sticky barrier tape. The aluminum cap will not degrade like the tape will when exposed to the weather and sun.
Thank you so very much for the terrific and informative video. May I ask one question. Living in California with only having hot sun and limited rain as our weather to contend with. What is your guess of how long a deck like this could possibly last? Debating between a deck or pavers. Truly appreciate you. Thanks again.
I was wondering why he decided to do a wood deck, when a paver patio would have worked and probably costs less. Cause the plastic supports are expensive
Thanks so much for tuning in to the live stream and no I have not tried the paver pad yet but plan to try those out in the future for sure. Pavers wouldn't work here because this area of the yard actually gets very wet and soft during the wetter months in Seattle so I went with something lifted off the ground would be best.
@BYOTools I live in Seattle also. And have pavers in my yard. If that area gets wet, then you need to put in large rocks for the water to drain under and away from the area
Not sure what is the LONGEST but the best best warranty I've seen so far on composite decking is 5o years on the Timbertech PVC vintage collection. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
Ipe, Black Locust, Redwood will last forever with minimal maintenance. Properly treated basic PT deck boards will last 20+years. In my experienced opinion composite boards suck for 176 +/- 42 reasons
Instead of doing so many blocks, would it be possible to use 3 4x4s spanning over maybe 3 or 4 blocks and then the deck on top of that? Obviously the deck would sit about 5 inches higher, but if height didn’t matter, would that be possible? Especially in a yard that is not very level, the risers to the 4x4s could be cut to level
Great to hear and thanks so much for watching. A pergola would be perfect for this space but if your in a high wind area then I'd make sure there is plenty of blocking where the legs of the pergola will be placed.
Beautiful deck and very informative video! Just a quick question, with this being a ground-level deck, do you expect any issues with moisture from rain being trapped underneath and eventually rotting the joists? Any thoughts on ventilation?
Please address contraction and expansion. My father had a composite deck and the fascia would bow out an inch during the summer. Are the composite materials better today than 20 years ago?
Well done. Can you please tell me who made the knee pad? It looks like it works well without slipping down the ankle. I bought almost 5 different pairs but none of them stay on the knee. Thank you
They are my all time favorite kneepads for sure and have saved my knees over the years. Thanks for asking and here's an affiliate link for them: amzn.to/3Y7dXRx
Technically I did it based upon hours. 3 hours for ground prep and 7 hours to build the deck. 5 of those hours where showcased in a livestream and the vast majority of the deck was built during that time. Here's the link to the livestream if you want to check it out for yourself. Thanks for watching though and hope you enjoyed the video: ua-cam.com/users/liveTB3huQxKK6E
Nope! All material was purchased by BYOT, except the Tuff Blocks since they where the sponsor. Putting together final numbers for the deck patio and will make it available. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video.
Sorry. I'm working out the final details today on the total cost and will make sure its provided. Just know the real cost savings is the decking and fasteners. I'll make sure it available though for everyone and provide plans for the build. Thanks so much for watching.
Well since this is only a 16 min video any you don't see a camo fastener until after min 9 I would strongly suggest NO. But I do like the system haha. Thanks for watching and hope your enjoyed the video.

Nice new truck! Deck looks great. 👍🏽
Haha! Thanks for noticing buddy. It was about time since my 1995 Toyota Tacoma two seater could only do so much haha :). Thanks for watching.
The deck looks amazing! Thanks as always for the great work you do with our TuffBlocks :)
Great to hear and thanks for all the support BuildTuff.
Great job and yes to plans

Thank you for teaching everything in such a good detail 🙏 and btw I love your grass, what is the name of it?
Would love the plans for this. Thank you
Nice addition, love your videos.
Thanks for all your support ;)
Every 12” for the tuff blocks. Wow….. that’s very expensive for something you’ll never see!
Looks Great
Amazing spot. I dont think its on a budget but really nice!
Please do share the total cost breakdown of this project. Thanks!

Do the composite deck boards get unbearably hot in the sun ?
Watching this live was amazing. Have you tried those paver pads? I know this is a wood deck but I was wondering if you had any experience with them.
I was wondering why he decided to do a wood deck, when a paver patio would have worked and probably costs less. Cause the plastic supports are expensive
Nevermind. I got to part where he is sponsored by tuffblocks

Great to hear from you again Esteban and thanks so much for watching.
@@BYOTools how are you and the family doing? everything alright over there? hope y’all have a good weekend!
What are the longest lasting deck boards? We have a rental that is ready for a deck rebuild and I need to pick up the deck boards. Thanks everyone.

Would you consider bolting a pergola on it?

Beautiful deck and very informative video!
Just a quick question, with this being a ground-level deck, do you expect any issues with moisture from rain being trapped underneath and eventually rotting the joists? Any thoughts on ventilation?
Water is free to drain into the ground. My concern would be if such a platform was built in a fully shaded location, away from drying sunshine.

Hot tub?! 😍
Very good guess and that I would love to have one day. Thanks so much for watching.
SAUNA
Very good guess :) Thanks for watching.
So if you dont put gravel 3 to 4 inches out from the joists and steel netting, you ll get rats digging to under the deck
All we have around here are gophers and bunnies. Luckily no rats yet :) Thanks for watching and looking out.
I don't believe that is possible in ONE day.

lol.... you're on your knees putting the screws in and then you're standing up and doing the work twice

@@BYOTools nice!
Looks like expensive materials, blocks and wood are cheaper.
@@iangregoryhomehow would you know. Why don’t you take the time and do the breakdown difference instead of just being a negative Nancy.
@@conraddewey1709 those materials I method are cheaper as I've just built my own deck so stop being a aggressive Nancy.
