from 03:05 when they all surround him, him getting called Don Corleone marking his final transformation into the ultimate power figure and Kay looking in and the door being shut leaving her on the outside both physically and symbolically. This scene is probably my favorite, a perfect ending to a perfect movie.
This lie most likely killed the marriage in the long run. Part of me wonders how would they ended up like if he told the truth, but explained his reasons - Carlo's constant abuse of Connie and of course the way he set up Sonny for death.
I think she believes him for a moment at least. She smiles crying and goes into his arms. That’s not the reaction of someone who feels she just has been lied to. Arguably, she does understand he lied to her face A MERE FEW MOMENTS LATER when the mafiosi kiss his ring and call him Don Corleone. Then she understands he has become a real mafia boss. And consequently she probably figures out . That’s what make the scene extra chilling : his calm behavior knowing what he did , his first quick denial, his anger, his second thoughtful denial, their momentary intimate moment , AND THEN her late realization it’s all a lie and she’s stuck in a marriage with a cold blooded bona fide mob boss - someone who will kill and lie to her face without breaking a sweat. And the door closed to her face as the final shot enhances it further. She will be on a very strict need to know basis in her marriage and Micheal is now a mob boss first and foremost.
I think she wants to believe him because she loves him and it is more painful to lose him than to accept the truth. As we already know, this leads to an end because it was an impossible relationship.
In this movie, yes, I agree, but in GF II when he asks Tom what the sex of Kate’s “miscarried” baby was, and yells at Tom for not having a solid answer, that was more frightening.
Omggg the beginning as Connie is talking & crying & Michael’s eyes are looking around he looks at Connie, the looks down, then at Kay but you can see he practicing his reaction for Kay not Connie. I love how Al Pacino always play Michael Corleone with his eyes! Just a perfect scene to end a perfect movie!
Man she was GREAT in that scene. She never got enough credit for this movie. She was fantastic. The fight scene with her husband in their home was just epic.
It's not that simple. In the Italian traditional culture, a young widow is considered a leftover. Far worse, she's forever going to be seen as the widow of a traitor. Even if Carlo abused her, this was seen as acceptable in his relationship because it was a 'marital issue'. From Connie's perspective, Michael left her alone with a baby, without the father of his child and without his husband (because, even as twisted as it sounds, she was still in love with Carlo). We have to take into account that this portrays a traditional Sicilian family of the 1950's, and an abused women was not a big deal as long as the abuser was his husband.
It's the scheme all psychopats use when dealing with their victims: 1. Intimidate the victim with aggressive behavior, anger and violence 2. Change posture suddenly and act like you are willing to do your intimidated victim a favor 3. Look your victim in the eye and lie and gaslight her while she thinks you are doing her a favor
I don’t see the connection between psychopaths and your husband who you know is a Boss in a crime family. He simply told her…” Never ask me about my business”! So, what’s the problem?
@@ironcito1101 Well, watching the woman you truly loved and quite possibly your unborn child being blown up to bits doesn't contribute to one's mental and emotional stability. Just ask me or Alexander Dugin.
Michael arrogantly believed he could change Kaye and turn her into a woman like his mother. Then later he hated her for remaining true to the woman she always was.
