  • Pad Kee Mao (or 'Prawn Drunken Noodles') might just be the ultimate in Thai comfort food. Though traditionally enjoyed after a big night; in our humble opinion, these better-than-takeaway noodles are a great choice at any point in the night.

I took a cooking class in Chiang Mai and was told that the reason it's called drunken noodles is because it's served on the street late at night and the spice in the noodles will sober you up if you're drunk!

It pairs perfectly with an ice cold pale ale. Thus drunken noodles.

I see you have an induction walk thingy as we’ll as a single gas wok burner. I have gas at the moment, but plan to up grade to induction - would you advise keeping the single gas burner for a wok or is the induction wok thingy better.

Thank you! It's entirely up to you! We have no problems cooking on induction with our woks, but of course a flame is always going to be great for wok cooking! I know Jeremy has an induction hob and a gas hob at home, whereas I only have gas which works great!

They call it drunken because they put the live shrimp or shellfish etc in booze before cooking it alive. They ingest the booze, usually whisky, then cook it alive. The booze adds a great taste. That’s why it’s called drunken anything.

Look at how foggy it got from the high heat! You better have a serious ventilation system in your home if you try this, otherwise your smoke detectors will be going off for quite a long time! The neighbors will think you're burning your house down. Don't even try this in an apartment complex. The fire department will surely show up!
