My omega, previous to definitive even came with two shells. One for the Gba and one for the Ds lite. I’ve been using ez-flashes for a long time and they’ve worked great. A Ds lite with a Ds cart and a Gba one and you’re set for life. Hundreds of great games at your disposal.
Wish I could go back in time about two months ago and hold off buying my Everdrive X5 mini! Very cool, blown away by just how many features they've squeezed in there, great review.
I wouldn’t regret it, the EZ Flash cards suck up more energy from the GBA, so the battery lasts less. The Everdrive is actually great in that regard, as it uses as little as possible in resources to function. It still uses more energy than what normal cartridges do but less than the EZ
This will be perfect for your micro! As I said, it's so cool to be able to play GB games on there too, and it's so much cheaper than the Everdrive, and just as good! :D

Great video! This thing is definitely giving the X5 a run for its money. The everdrive is $99 and this is $71 so it’s only $28 cheaper, though. I’m really curious about how much power it actually uses. The old one used DOUBLE what a regular cartridge used, while the everdrive only used 20% more. These extra features are truly amazing, though. Really hoping this lights a fire under krikzz’s belly. I’m looking forward to the everdrive GBA X7.
Here the X5 Mini is £130+ and the DE is £50 so it’s a lot cheaper compared to us prices for some reason? I couldn’t find any exact measurements for power consumption, I just know it’s less than the other EZ flash carts, probably not as low as the ED though.. will definitely be interesting to see what the next Everdrive GBA offers now there’s some good competition!

I remember the old Super Card from 2012, that had a mini SD card slot and could hold up to 2gb storage. Now it runs an insane 128GB card. that's mind blowing for 10 years later. for what you show on the video, it runs folders and software like, really really fast, that's an excellent feature. Considerating that the original OS had no home screen and was a direct boot to the game, you can start playing your games right away.

Nice video expecting mine to come on the 10th What would've been cool is instead of the in game title screen for the picture they should have done the game box art (would have also be nice if a solar & gyro sensor was in it too, minus the LED light)
You can probably change the images to the box art if you edit the file associated with the game on the SD card, but they all have weird file names so it would take a while to do it… and yeah, maybe the next version will include gyro and solar! Why not put a speaker in it too for the few GB games that had a speaker built into the cart!
Playing on the Analogue Pocket makes the turning off/on thing for the X5 almost a non-issue. This does look eons better than the GBA X5 Mini I had just got lol.
Great and thorough review! I have a few Everdrives including the original Gameboy version but never splashed out for the GBA one as I don't feel I play my GBA enough to justify it. The price (and extra features) of this one are much more palatable! Incidentally I had an EZ Flash branded GBA flashcart back in the day - it held 4 games in its internal memory and needed a dedicated USB writer. I actually recently found the cart but it seems to be dead and the writer is nowhere to be seen. I wonder if it's the same company? 🤔
@Falcon-um7vo that’s exactly what I was saying. Calling it Eee Zed is incorrect, but it never dawned on me it’s meant to be ‘Easy’ until watching this video. Not that it matters. I have the Everdrive so never need to say this anyway!
I have a question. Will the EZ Flash Omega Definitive Cart drain less battery if it is set to stand alone cart mode (where it boots the game like a real GBA cart)? In that mode; would the battery life be the same as an actual GBA cart or is it still more drain than normal?
Just like the Everdrive Pro, you can encode videos to play on the GBA straight away? Certainly much more convenient than the GBA Movie Player+videos encoded with GBA Movie/Music converter combo. I made a sharable Google Drive for 1GB SD/CF cards for GBA Movie Player. Aw man, now I feel insignificant.
oh man, and i just bought the everdrive gba mini like a year ago, the sleep mode and save states are pretty cool, and if they could get Neo Geo pocket emulation 100 percent id buy it in a second .
so it's an ezf omega with the addition of features of the old ezf V 3-in-1 slot2 device. I feel like the 3-in-1's still the better choice for nintendo dualscreen systems since it fits fully inside the Lite, so I don't know really if it's giving gba users enough over the standard omega.
It should probably be mentioned in the video that CHEATS and IMGS should be in the SYSTEM folder in order for them to work according to the custom firmware
Your testing with a video file makes me think about when I used to watch One Piece episodes I converted on my DS lite with my R4 years ago... I think with Moonlight or something? Good times. Quality wasn't actually that bad
Sweet video! Ordered mine today. Whoot! Do you know if you can soft reset like with a normal cartridge. For example soft reseting for shiny pokemon? or do i have to go through menus
The rumble and RGB light definitely are. Maybe the NOR as I’m boring and always did normal boot so can’t remember what other options were there. The micro SD is a pain on this one as well. I have to unscrew the cover to be able to pull the thing out which is frustrating whenever I want to add new ROMs
Amazing that EZ-Flash is still around. I had an EZ-Flash... 2 I think? It was probably 2003 or so it didn't use micro SD cards. Instead there was a USB writer that you put the cartridge into and it required custom drivers and software. You could use the writer to back up your own games, which was pretty cool.
@@marcianoacuerda I think that might have been an EZ Flash III or IV. A few years later I think. My one was only 256Mb, so you had to carefully choose which games to write (there were a few 256Mb games, like Mother 3 but most were 128Mb or less so you could put a few games on together).
I've purchased two of these over the past three years. Eventually both became problematic with some of my devices as the contacts wore down quite quickly causing them to not boot. I found if I pulled the cartridges out of the reader slightly they then would boot in those devices. Eventually the problem continued to expand to all devices. Obviously if the cartridge was left in a particular device this problem would be lessened, but if pulled in and out of different devices it won't last long. I've not had this problem with any other genuine cartridges. I have a number of devices and I like to play them all.
Quick question. Does this support cheats for gb and gbc? Or is it just like the everdrive only uses game genie. Oh and don’t let that one dude ruin your day. You make great videos thank you.
It uses the same emulator for game boy games, so only game genie codes unfortunately. And thanks :) I try not to let trolls bother me too much, but it’s always frustrating
i got mine a week before Christmas. works great! the only thing is on some NES games the picture doesn't quite fit the screen. not sure if it's an emulation issue or not but it's not a big deal to me. i mostly got it to play GBA RPGs
Loved the guide! I'm getting an SP soon and I wanted to know whick flashcartridge was the best, watching this video was a very nice decision! Will buy one of these defenitly. I've got one question though, Does it play the GB/C Pokémon games okay? And does it let you transfer pokémon to other generations? Ty so much!!
@@monik43_ pokemon crystal has a lot of problems (all of the menus are glitched) running on the goomba emulator that both x5 mini and ez flash use. If you really want to play a non-glitched pokemon crystal on one of these flash carts, then your best option is to play pokemon crystal clear, a rom hack of pokemon crystal that is pretty much open world pokemon crystal (it's a pretty fun rom hack). Sorry if crystal was what you were looking forward to the most with these flash carts, the original crystal won't run well on them.
Great review! I’ve been looking at getting an Everdrive GBA X5 Mini versus an EZ Flash, but the price is within a $20 difference in the US, and some other reviews I’ve read online said that the EZ Flash has lower build quality, longer loading time, and higher power consumption, bringing down the overall value of the cart? If you get a chance I’d like to see you test the power consumption and see if there’s actually a difference. Really happy you did this video tho! There’s no where near enough solid EZ Flash reviews imo.
Do you know how to speed up games with this? I’ve been looking for a while and trying to get it with cheats for Pokémon emerald but I can’t get it to work
I can't get one specific game to run on this cfw... Racing Gears Advance on GBA.... If I update to ofw, the game works, but on the SimleDE firmware, I get a black screen and glitchy sounds. Any fix?
It’s ok for some, but not others. Mine doesn’t work properly unless you do so,etching specific.. check back on my channel tomorrow I’ve done a follow up video where I show how to get it working on the pocket.
This is going to sound dumb, but I'm new to this. Let's say I'm playing a Pokemon game and I use the save option in the Pokemon games menu. Will that allow me to load it the next time I go to that game or do I have to use save states for every game?
@@RetroBreak That's a shame but I've recently bought one and it's coming on Monday. I don't think I've ever been so hyped from buying something before ahhaha
@@RetroBreak As for games I haven't played before I'm unsure as of yet, but I'll happily put the GBA games I already own on there (plus GBC and DMG ofc) saves me having to carry tons of cartridges with me which is a great convenience especially since games can take up so much room
Im tempted to buy it mostly for the mod B. I'm interested to see if it could work with the Hyperkin Retron (or whatever it's called). I already own an EZ Flash Omega, and my Everdrive X5 Mini, but I wouldn't be against checking this thing out too.
ik this is 2 years old, and im not super tech knowledgable, BUT i wonder if some of the battery usage compared to the EverDrive is the rumble and the LED
I know this is an old comment but encase someone else has the same question in the future, yes you can. If my memory serves right you need to flash the Rom of the Pokemon game into NOR and set the EZ Flash Omega to mode B (the switch on the side of the cartridge) and PAL park should work as it did for me a few month ago when I did it
Nice video ! I ADORE the EZ-Flash line of cartridges. I have two EZ-Flash IV Omega and an EZ-Flash Jr. I'm also considering to buy an EZ-Flash Definitive Edition. P.S. For me the EZ-Flash IV Omega is better than the Everdrive since the day of the release, ofcourse back in 2016 the EZ-Flash IV Omega was full of bugs ... but at least the cartrige fits ALL Game Boy Advance slots (including the DS Lite one) since D1. Compared to the Everdrive GBA cartridge that (even with a better hardware/software) have continued to stick out from ALL the GBA slots until the second revision ... that still now sticks out from the DS Lite GBA slots. The new and improved EZ-Flash cartride is now big like the Everdrive version, now they both have the same dimension of a regular GBA cartridge so now is only a matter of who has better functions and power consumption. I hope that the EZ-Flash IV Omega will implement a light sensor and a giroscope for the games that uses those functions 😉 For now we have the rumble function (1 function, 2 more functions to implement).
If it didn't stick out of the ds lite slot, im pretty sure you wouldn't be able to pull it out of the original ds at all lol. And yes, some people (me included) replace the screens in that model and keep them around just because the charger matches GBA SP and it's one less cable in the drawer of handheld cables I have lol.
Just ordered one on EBay for about $50. Almost half the price of what the ever drive costs with the same support for game gear, gba, master system, etc. What size sd card can read this again? Just for clarification. Says it’ll be at my house between this Saturday and this upcoming Tuesday! Looks like I have something forward to this weekend and next week. Also got the new ips screen and a new shell for my old sp. Once I fix it all up, it’ll be like 2002 all over again. Kinda though.
I've got an EZ Flash Omega from about 2 years ago. Stopped using because with the IPS mod my battery only lasts about 1hr lol. Is it worth upgrading to DE?
Does it work on the Analogue Pocket?🤔 and if so, does all the features of the custom FW work on the Pocket?. I don't understand why save states isn't available on the Everdrive GBA - after all Krikkz is the king of Flashcarts/Everdrives
Just spent 3 hours playing Pokémon gold and to my surprise it didn’t save at all when I turned on the console the next morning :/ apparently it doesn’t save GB and GBA Games. Like what!! What a waste of time and money sadly
Sadly it just comes up with an error screen on the analogue pocket, some people think there's going to be an update to fix it though... fingers crossed! I might make a follow up whenever it gets fixed

Love this video! Thanks for all the info!
I have a question. Will the EZ Flash Omega Definitive Cart drain less battery if it is set to stand alone cart mode (where it boots the game like a real GBA cart)? In that mode; would the battery life be the same as an actual GBA cart or is it still more drain than normal?
Same question
You got an answer after 2 years
This card needs an option to swap A an B buttons to Y and B, maybe L and R should work on Xand A too, but without losing the original input buttons.
Goddamn I got an Omega did not think they would release an updated version!
It's nice to see this can emulate WonderSwan.
oh man, and i just bought the everdrive gba mini like a year ago, the sleep mode and save states are pretty cool, and if they could get Neo Geo pocket emulation 100 percent id buy it in a second .
so it's an ezf omega with the addition of features of the old ezf V 3-in-1 slot2 device. I feel like the 3-in-1's still the better choice for nintendo dualscreen systems since it fits fully inside the Lite, so I don't know really if it's giving gba users enough over the standard omega.
It should probably be mentioned in the video that CHEATS and IMGS should be in the SYSTEM folder in order for them to work according to the custom firmware
if you read the text file labeled !!!!!!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!.TXT it states it very clearly
Still I think it should be mentioned, spent a day working on it just to realize my mistake the day after
love using this on my GameCube and GB micro. who needs a Switch?
Your testing with a video file makes me think about when I used to watch One Piece episodes I converted on my DS lite with my R4 years ago... I think with Moonlight or something? Good times. Quality wasn't actually that bad
Wow! I remember using Moonlight to watch stuff on my DS back in the day too! Also used to make custom themes for the R4 card as well, good times!
Sweet video! Ordered mine today. Whoot!
Do you know if you can soft reset like with a normal cartridge. For example soft reseting for shiny pokemon? or do i have to go through menus
You can soft reset.
You’ve got my by drill dozer! Thanks
Drill Dozer is awesome! Wish Game Freak made more quirky platformers like that!
I love it! :)
Thanks for doing the review! I have the original Omega and was curious what was different
I’m guessing there’s quite a few improvements? This is the first EZ Flash I’ve used
The rumble and RGB light definitely are.
I remember those times. I had a ez flash with a mini sd or xd, can’t recall it exactly but was a medium between sd and micro.
@@marcianoacuerda I think that might have been an EZ Flash III or IV. A few years later I think. My one was only 256Mb, so you had to carefully choose which games to write (there were a few 256Mb games, like Mother 3 but most were 128Mb or less so you could put a few games on together).
It’s great they are still around and improving!
Ok so I'm really happy with my EverDrive, but I do love those DS features.
Great video! You know were i can find the dark skin for the custom firmware? Thanks!
The power draw on these is more then an ips screen on full and the amp mod on full also alone 🙈
Hello sir how is the battery consumption does it consume a lot?
q buen video te mandaste mi wachito(what a great video my broder)
i got mine a week before Christmas. works great! the only thing is on some NES games the picture doesn't quite fit the screen. not sure if it's an emulation issue or not but it's not a big deal to me. i mostly got it to play GBA RPGs
Thank you for the video 😄
Loved the guide! I'm getting an SP soon and I wanted to know whick flashcartridge was the best, watching this video was a very nice decision! Will buy one of these defenitly. I've got one question though, Does it play the GB/C Pokémon games okay? And does it let you transfer pokémon to other generations? Ty so much!!
I’ve heard crystal might have some problems? But everything else should be fine
@@RetroBreak Thank you for your quick response :)
@@cactusdip4680 thank you for your response. I ended up searching my parents house for games and actually found pkmn crystal! so no prob there
How does this work with a GBA with a IPS v3 screen mod? Does it draw too much power?
yes a podcast!!!!
Thanks! If I find time I’ll try and run both from a full charge and time it :) might make a follow up if I get enough questions in these comments!
@@RetroBreak Awesome! Glad to see you back in the new year, by the way :D
Wasn’t sure if I’d be able to upload, but I found a way! :D thanks for sticking around!
@@RetroBreak My pleasure! Love your content, and I’m hoping to start my own channel, so I’m here to stay! Keep up the good work!
Good luck with your channel :)
Any fix?
would have liked to see a .txt file opened and what formatting options are available. if bg color and text color are customizable and such.
How's compatibility with the Analogue Pocket?
It’s ok for some, but not others. Mine doesn’t work properly unless you do so,etching specific.. check back on my channel tomorrow I’ve done a follow up video where I show how to get it working on the pocket.
This is going to sound dumb, but I'm new to this.
Let's say I'm playing a Pokemon game and I use the save option in the Pokemon games menu. Will that allow me to load it the next time I go to that game or do I have to use save states for every game?
Just a question does this work with games like Wario Ware Twisted and Yoshi's Universal Gravitation?
No there’s no gyro unfortunately, maybe in the next version?
@@RetroBreak That's a shame but I've recently bought one and it's coming on Monday. I don't think I've ever been so hyped from buying something before ahhaha
Enjoy! Any idea what you’re going to play on there first?
@@RetroBreak As for games I haven't played before I'm unsure as of yet, but I'll happily put the GBA games I already own on there (plus GBC and DMG ofc) saves me having to carry tons of cartridges with me which is a great convenience especially since games can take up so much room
Im tempted to buy it mostly for the mod B. I'm interested to see if it could work with the Hyperkin Retron (or whatever it's called). I already own an EZ Flash Omega, and my Everdrive X5 Mini, but I wouldn't be against checking this thing out too.
Doesn't this one do the sme s the omega?
I still use my EZ flash 3in1 with my DS Lite.
My ez flash works on my analogue!! Must have been a patch update!!!!
ik this is 2 years old, and im not super tech knowledgable, BUT i wonder if some of the battery usage compared to the EverDrive is the rumble and the LED
Anybody know why Gameboy color saves keep getting erased on the EZ flash omega??
it might need a new battery
@@estusflask982 nope. I figured it out. Its got some whack save protocol for gbc games since its ran through an emulator
I have the original ez flash omega and really like it. I'm not sure upgrading to the definitive edition would be worth it, what you think?
Depends how much you value the extra features over the one you’ve already got
So, if you assume the price difference isn’t much/is negligible, which do you prefer?
See my new video for the answer :)
great review! how does it work with a gameboy player?
Works great with the Gameboy player!
Nice job thanks ! I was searching information on that !
Ps: What's the name song ? Sounds nice !
There is only one thing this is missing....
A solar sensor. :)
and a gyro sensor too
And a rumble motor
Is it true that this cart can be used to transfer Pokemon from gen 3 to gen 4 via the PAL Park?
I know this is an old comment but encase someone else has the same question in the future, yes you can.
If my memory serves right you need to flash the Rom of the Pokemon game into NOR and set the EZ Flash Omega to mode B (the switch on the side of the cartridge) and PAL park should work as it did for me a few month ago when I did it
HELP PLEASE! Directorys don't load in my Ez Flash..... WHAT'S HAPPENING???
Probably bad sd card. Or sd card is in wrong file system (fat32 instead of exfat or exfat instead of fat32)
Cool video :D Do u know if it works with the gamecube link cable like to connect to pokemon colosseum or pokemon xd?
Yea it will, once you load the games up it just sees it as a normal gba cartridge
I hope that the EZ-Flash IV Omega will implement a light sensor and a giroscope for the games that uses those functions 😉
For now we have the rumble function (1 function, 2 more functions to implement).
Big like drop from Old Nerd 👍😉
Thank you old nerd!
Does the entire Gameboy library fit on 128gb? Genuinely curious because that sounds massive!
You can easily fit every GBA and Game Boy game on a 128gb card! :)
You could fit everything on a 16gb card even! The entire GBA library is just over 8gb, and the GB and GBC libraries are even smaller
I want the EZ Flash De and I have a 32gb in exfat format. What format is your 32gb card in? The language on the EZ Flash Manual for 32gb is confusing.
Hello Nick.....I just got mine today and was wondering where is a good place to get all the Rom pack?? Thanks
Try archive.org they usually have good packs on there
Just ordered one on EBay for about $50.
I still got an EZ-flash 4 with mini SD cards xD
Does GBA games play natively? What about the battery consumption compared to an original cartridge?
I've got an EZ Flash Omega from about 2 years ago. Stopped using because with the IPS mod my battery only lasts about 1hr lol. Is it worth upgrading to DE?
Is there any rom web fr gba you recommend? 🙇🏻♂️
Nes classic mario does not play on this. Any help?
Does the rumble feature work with the Gameboy Color games that allowed rumble? Like, Pod Racing, Pokémon Pinball, etc? If so that would be amazing
Does it work on the Analogue Pocket?🤔 and if so, does all the features of the custom FW work on the Pocket?. I don't understand why save states isn't available on the Everdrive GBA - after all Krikkz is the king of Flashcarts/Everdrives
Unfortunately mine didn’t work on the pocket at all, but it seems to work for some people? Hopefully there will be an update that makes it more stable
Just spent 3 hours playing Pokémon gold and to my surprise it didn’t save at all when I turned on the console the next morning :/ apparently it doesn’t save GB and GBA Games. Like what!! What a waste of time and money sadly
But can it play tilt games? Kirby tilt-n-tumble? Wario ware?
This looks great Nick! As you say it’s healthy competition for the everdrive. Did you get it working on the Analogue Pocket? Cheers.
Sadly it just comes up with an error screen on the analogue pocket, some people think there's going to be an update to fix it though... fingers crossed! I might make a follow up whenever it gets fixed
@@RetroBreak thanks Nick. Yes, fingers crossed it’s resolved via an update.
So you made this video before you did the battery comparison im guessing?
How do you watch movies on the Gameboy ?!! I’ve never seen that. Where do you download the movies for Gameboy ? And are there any additional add ons you need other than the ez flash to watch movies on gba ?
