On the Japanese two strokes, I have run flywheel weights to great advantage. you can almost take off at idle with no throttle. Translates to so much tractability in gnarly sections. It also allows you to do HP upgrades, but not always sacrifice torque because you add physical rotating mass.
350 hours on my TX300 (same as XC300) just doing my second piston and suspension refresh. I opened airbox on rh side, jetted mikuni same as Meg brapp. Runs great. The 2017/2018 really are a great work horse. It's never let me down. Good luck at hammers.

Hey Chris, you should try the Evan’s waterless coolant. I’ve never had overheating doing year round riding in slow terrain and it doesn’t expand like antifreeze 🤙
I’ve had a 18 250xc with close to 450 hours since new and it’s been a rock solid bike. Been wanting a new bike but gonna add fork cartridges and do the bottom end instead. Have the keihin 38 with an rk tek head and it’s dialed. Those shroud bungees are nice.
@@TrailBoundco No it felt fine the last time I did the piston(usually 75-100 hours) just want to do it for preventive maintenance. I race my local desert harescrambles in the A class so can be pretty high on the rpm’s for extended periods on the faster courses.
I know it’s expensive, but you could go to an auto clutch temporarily to save your wrist. It’s a godsend if you have any type of arthritic issues like I have. Have one on one of my two WR450’s and it’s great for enduro, especially as the WR’s have cable clutches that require Hulk Force.
thats true, I've had messed up clutch hands for 2 races maybe I should have a recluse for those days hah. when I try to ride my girlfriends bike with it thought the clutch pull is so hard and really hard for me to ride compared to my normal clutch
I knew you'd love a keihin 38 once you tried one. We've been liking the 17-19 keihin carb bikes better than the TBI's but maybe that's cause your bike has so many hours? Glad you love the bike.
I waited to long.. had to try the other options along the way I guess. I like the carb bike better than the TBI. But once the TBI has some custom mapping options it could be really good
@@TrailBoundco Yeah I bet they'll get the new gen bikes dialed in good. I swapped out the TSP jetting for the JD jetting in the 38 keihin and honestly I like it better. Something to try if you want.
My buddy has a tbi and he says it’s too hard to hold on to on hard terrain compared to his 18 tx300, plus it had to be towed out of the woods once already
@@stevejones6647 dang it, battery die? my friend went to the 250tbi after the 300tbi. and he's a hill climbing machine and still owns me on this 250 TBI
What TSP insert are you running currently? I ride my 18 300 in very gnarly wet BC trails at sea level and just want the bike to lug better. Have you tried the low comp head? I see lots of pro riders prefer that insert.
I almost never ride at sea level, lowest is usually 2500ft. so I'm either a high or sometimes in summer at super high elevation I'll run the extra high. the medium feels flat and boring to me but you know if it was super slick it might prevent wheel spin and work better.
What are your thoughts on the chassis difference between the xc and new gen xcw? How is it running the shorter xplor forks on the xc? Doesn’t make the bike unbalanced?
Would love to see how you mount and secure your pad pack. I bought one but didn't secure it well enough so it bounced around and completely ripped apart after about 10 hours
When did you get it? I recently started including instructions on the special mounting process I use. I also updated the mounting strap that works super well and beefed up the bag in general with the redesign to take more abuse
if you put lower compresion insert, plus flywheel weight, less clutch drag, bike would be almost incapible of stalling XD AND you gonna have a HUGE bottom end improvement
I love your videos and your products but what you said about the master clutch cylinder don't make sense if you put 10 mm master cylinder it will make your clutch lighter the new ktm even come with 11 mm
I have a 2014 200 xcw I want to put the 9mm clutch on. The current clutch is a Magura. Will I have to replace the slave cylinder as well? I’m assuming so since it’s a mineral oil system.
I dont know much about mineral oil clutches on dirtbike, my trials bike is mineral and its insanely soft. maybe the 9mm won't even be softer than your mineral?
@@TrailBoundco Copy that. For now I just removed two of the five clutch springs and it seems softer. Just hoping that I won't have slippage due to that.
