Tips and tools you need to change strings on a classical guitar.
Changing strings on a nylon-strung instrument is much different than wrestling with the buttons and wire on a steel-string acoustic. PG’s Nikos Arvantis offers an in-depth tutorial on changing nylon strings, and specifically on a classical instrument-where the number of string holes on the tie block (six, nine, or 12) vary model-to-model. His tools: a normal tension D’Addario string set, a string winder, wire clippers and a headstand. Nikos walks us though one string at a time, from bridge to tuners. He starts by running the bass string through the bridge to the tie block-in this case a 6-hole variant-and displays proper string tying technique. Thinks loops and remain patient. This can be challenging the first few times, and especially so for those with large fingers. Next we move to the headstock. The lowest bass string also needs to be tied securely, and then wound to pitch in such a way that the windings run on the outside of the string roller. For the next two low strings, the windings go to the inside. This avoids string overlap. Next he moves to the highest string, where the light gauge can be especially hard to knot, and also keeps the string on the outside of the roller while winding up to pitch. The next two highest strings go on the inner part of the roller, as with the bass strings. Finally, the loose ends sticking out beyond the knots on the tie block and rollers are trimmed with the wire cutter. And violá! If your nylon-string guitar has a nine- or 12-hole block, consult the manual or other sources.

Remember that on one end of the 6th string (Base-E), there is a loosely wound two inches and that end is used on the bridge (the bottom side of the guitar) for easy tying. Just make sure that all of the loosely wound part is brought under the bridge, through the hole. You don't want that part producing any of the vibration/sound.

Hi, grest video! Questinon.....My tuner is broken. Found a replacement but the peg shafts (posts) are smaller in both length and diameter. Are they critical? What is the acceptable tolerance?

I literally followed every step but for some reason the last string when I wind it goes out of tune? like it will be okay but then a few minutes later it goes back down to a lower tone? but also though Im not sure why the more I go up the fret to play chords or single notes the sound gets stuck and plays out of tune?? any suggestions anyone please? thanks In advance! :)
Because the string is new it isn’t used to being tuned so it unwinds more. Just keep tuning it

NB! dont cut before tuning just wasted 15€ cuz G string slipped and now i cant loop it on top fml
all my treble ties dont look to be exacly behind the bridge. should i worry? will they go out of tune or is it more a danger of them coming untied?

when I go to tune them, my strings are super loose (tied properly on both ends) and it takes almost no tuning to get them tuned to the right note, but then they’re loose even at the right note?
Bass E and Treble E strings are wound from the tuner hole outward to keep the string travelling in a straight line...
Hello. I have a quetion query and hope someone can help me out. I hope someone could tell me the purpose of the ‘eye’ or eyelet - like the ones found on sewing needles to thread the thread - at one end of the Knobloch strings?
I haven’t come across these kind of strings before, Knobloch are made in Spain and one feature I like is that they tune and settle in a question of hours, a day or 2.
Obviously it is somehow made like that to make string up easier or more secure, but I cannot decide which end it is supposed to be used, bridge nut or tuners’ in the headstock? Even then I am mot sure exactly how one is supposed to proceed. I need an expert.

So basically its like the first step when tieing your shoe? (cris/cross and through the loop) but you do it twice. In a nutshell its your standard basic double knot ...thats all it takes? It'll hold?

I have a problem with the high E-string. It always either slips through the hole at the bridge cause the knot tightens under too much pressure or it slips out of the tuner hole...🤷🏼♂️😅
The other strings worked perfectly normal.
I will try, I poped my strings twice already so I have to buy new strings. First I am goinf to seee about see if they will fix the one string since I paid money foe the a string to pop on me. Normally they do a good job with it, so I am wondering if its my guitar.

Why does the E, A, D low strings in a classical guitar string looks like a metal? Or is there something i dont know? Can someone clarify that part for me thanks!
they are wrapped or plated with thin silver or other types of metal. It’s confusing if you look at them, but as soon as you play them you’ll clearly feel they are not actually metal, just plated. Why, I have no idea, my guess is it just sounds better.
What’s the circle looking thing attached to the string? Because my string looks like a regular string until you look at the pointy bit and I have no idea what it is
You bought acoustic guitar strings instead of classical guitar strings.
I'm assuming that in the entire pack all the strings are metal.
DO NOT attach acoustic guitar strings to a classical guitar you will break it

I restrung mine but it can’t stay in tune for a second? Is there a possible common reason for this?

It's NORMAL at first. Nylon strings stretch A LOT when they're brand new. As they stretch, they will go flat. The solution is to play them for a while and re-tune constantly, soon enough the strings will finish stretching and the instrument should hold its tune for a reasonable amount of time (well, assuming the guitar isn't shit).
Optionally, to speed up that stretching time you can also do big bends or even pull on each string. Example: pull on a string 2-3 times, tune back to pitch, then repeat it a couple times for each string. I hope that helps :-) Rock on!

Never ever use a steel string on a classical guitar meant only for nylon strings!!! If you do, you will irreparably destroy the guitar, and you will have a search and destroy team looking for you!!

He mentions that by doing one at a time, you maintain consistent tension on the neck from the other five. That might not matter much, but it's a reason, anyway.

I have question señor. Is it possible to string it the opposite was for left handed player? Thinking about getting one but can't find the answer.
Not sure if you still need any help, but you can buy left-handed guitars, that said this type of guitar is symmetrical and can be played and strung both left and right handed as long as there are no electronics in it.
It's a safer bet to look for a left-handed one in the first place, but with a purely acoustic classical guitar there shouldn't be an issue.
I think math was easier than movements. How do people follow along with this stuff xD It may not seem like it, but I think it's amazing. Even if I turn out to be the odd one lol

They all wind the same direction with the string going over the top. Since they are recessed inside, winding under won't work. The string should not contact anywhere other than the nut and its own winding. It shouldn't hit any other string, winding or part of the head
