It REALLY is like what we see on eBay (and the other platforms). It really is. I'm a firm believer in spreading out that risk by developing multiple income streams. That way, one platform doesn't own us.

I honestly don't think it's a person at all. I think it's an algorithmic evaluation system. And, when they tweaked it last November and again in July of this year, it's creating a lot of false positives. There are literally hundreds of creators being demonetized. I watched a video of a gamer today who has over 400k subscribers. His Adsense account was actually banned for Invalid Traffic. Listening to him, he's absolutely crushed. He wasn't doing anything wrong at all. I worry about a kid like that far more than me. Scary. He lost his entire livelihood.

Choosing the right niche makes a huge difference. Business channels are funded at the highest rate. Gaming channels the least because their audience doesn't have as much discretionary income.

I truly appreciate this comment more than you know. The short answer is that UA-cam doesn't come close to making up for what I could make if I spent the same time working on eBay. BUT, I love feeling like I might make a difference for someone. There are other ways to monetize the channel. I've always resisted them because I don't want a struggling viewer to feel like they owe me anything. They don't. Your comment is truly the reason I make the videos. 100% thank you for the encouragement.

I have been with you almost from the beginning of your UA-cam journey and I can tell you that you ARE MAKING A POSITIVE impact on people's lives! I can also understand the frustration of being in a position where you have a problem, the solution of which is completely outside of your control. I cannot help with that but I send good karma and hope for a quick resolution so that you can be rewarded financially for the good that you do.

I am amazed at the explosion of technology. I had a 3rd grade teacher tell us once that a lot of us would be doing jobs as adults that hadn't been invented yet. Back then, I couldn't even imagine what those jobs might be. And now I create content for social media so that people can sell things online. LOL

Texas Gal Treasures made a deep dive into the UA-cam "invalid traffic" errors that are hitting creators that had the same timing as another deal Google was rolling out so the suspicion is there is a bug affecting the videos/revenue. She spent quite a bit of time with support to look at it. It's a matter of putting enough pressure on the company to finally acknowledge the bug frankly.
I have visited with her, too. It's definitely demoralizing. There is a ton of activity surrounding this on Twitter. I'm hoping they get it resolved. Melody and I have talked a LOT about this since I was hit with it. We've decided to just make any revenue from UA-cam an "extra." But, we are going to keep trying to make helpful videos even if the pay stopped completely. It's honestly like getting to teach again.

I truly appreciate that. I admit, I've had to work on remaining positive. It's a bit of a gut-punch. But, I can't help anyone if I let it get the best of me. People have been using my affiliate links and I've even had a few people get memberships to the channel. I'm blessed regardless of how this eventually plays out.

LOL...neither did I. It never occurred to me, and it should have, that people were cheating the system. It leaves UA-cam in a position where they have to detect and eliminate fake traffic. But, right now, the system is identifying a ton of people I'm sure weren't doing anything wrong. I'm hopeful that they will get it fixed.

I love watching your videos. I have told other people to watch your videos in order to learn how to sell on eBay. I tell them that "I learned everything about how to resell from You Tube". I did not have someone come to my house and show me how to sell online. I had to figure it out. I also love that your in Texas and an educator. Teaching is in your blood. You can't get rid of it. I retired this past May from teaching and now resell full time. We all know that teacher retirement is not enough! Keep up the spectacular videos!

I have noticed videos from other UA-camrs having this problem. Many say, they depend on their channels for their income. I am glad, that you don't. It's wise to have other forms of income. Keep up the good work.
UA-cam is an amazing platform. But, it's wise to maintain several income streams. I teach eBay, but I'm also a big believer in crossposting so that you can maintain other platforms. I wouldn't want any business or platform to have too much control over my family's financial security.

It's interesting that this is happening to you on utube. I have been getting hit hard on facebook with going against community standards when all I've been doing is sharing a video or someone else s post. Love your videos and things will work out/ Just keep the videos coming and don't let them discourage you.
I truly appreciate that. Late last week my monetization started going back up. It took 6 weeks and it could happen again tomorrow. There is no solution at this time. The lesson for me still stands. I need to make sure that I don't have all my eggs in one basket. UA-cam, eBay, and/or Facebook could easily decide you can't use their platform. And there is very little you can do about it. I love the platforms. I truly do. I just want to make sure I'm not so dependent on any of them that I'm not in control of my own financial health. :-)

What phenomenal growth! I think I’ve been around since you were under 1200 subs.
I have some theories about why throttling is happening on various platforms (eBay, you tube, ect) but I’ve been told it’s just a “conspiracy theory”. Of course, many things in this world have been called conspiracy theories over the decades - all the way until they were proven true.
I've read a lot about this since I got hit with it. UA-cam changed how they were "identifying" Invalid Traffic at the same time that they were under immense scrutiny from advertisers who were paying for views that weren't real. Advertisers were upset, and rightfully so. The new algorithm seems to falsely catch growing channels that are performing well with search based videos. My biggest issue is that UA-cam absolutely has no customer support for its creators. Zero.
This was very interesting. I'm not interested in starting a channel myself, but it's intriguing to see how it works. Anyway, I love your channel and have learned so much about how to do eBay. The invalid traffic thing will still loom over me after it's fixed. I just need to make sure that I diversify my income. Lesson learned.
I hope the numbers are encouraging. There isn't anything special about me or what I'm doing. My channel started to grow when I decided that I was going to make videos aimed at helping people. I quit thinking about views or subscribers more than at a surface level. If my videos are easy to understand, helpful and encouraging...I figure the subscribers and views will take care of themselves.

Ball caps are one of my favorite things to sell! I sold a vintage one this morning for $58 on Etsy. And I packed it up exactly like I do in the video. :-)
I wonder if there are people who use click bait youtube posts (usually in Asia) that actually do this to eBay youtubers with lots of subscribers? It seems really strange... of course, the click bait ones don't seem to get hit with this....hoping this gets solved soon. We need less click bait and more real like you!
I'm honestly not sure. I don't really have click bait titles. But, something is going on and it's scary.... frustrating.
Gosh, sorry that this is happening. I hope it lifts soon. Crazy that you have no real way to explain or defend your side of things. As subscribers, we know that the community of resellers are very supportive of each other and promote each other so that helps the numbers but they must know the difference. Or so you would think. 🤪 It's almost like they punish you if the channel grows too fast.
The reselling community has been far kinder and more supportive to me than I deserve. I feel truly honored and humbled.
If UA-cam ever fixes this (or if it gets worse), I'll keep everyone posted. :-)

How did you learn to edit your videos? Did you learn as you go or watch any tutorials?
I have just taught myself. And, when I'd get stuck (which was often), I'd get on UA-cam and see if there was a tutorial for whatever I was trying to do. I'm still learning with every video.
Well I want to say that you have helped me I used your channel when I started in the beginning of eBay so tell me did everything get straightened out yet I wonder if it's worth it to start a new UA-cam channel at all now
There are going to be UA-cam channels that start this year with zero subscribers who will finish the year with 100k. You can't control the content of other people's channels. Your only real competition is YOU. There are people in our niche who started long after me that get many more views. It's not luck, either. I think they are earning every view they get.
My advice is to give it a try. Do your best to offer value to the people you want to watch. Improve with every upload. There's plenty of space left. You just need to find the right space on UA-cam for you.

Thank you for the kind words! No, I don't really need anything to get past this. It's really up to UA-cam. There are some channels that have run into this that have 400k subscribers. We just need UA-cam to take action. Beside, it's better that it is me that some of my friends on UA-cam. Some of them are probably more dependent on the income.
As far as getting subscribers, I can believe anyone follows my channel. I really don't get it. But I can tell you what I changed when my channel started to grow. When I first started, I kept trying to see which videos that algorithm would pick up. I was trying to figure out how to make the channel grow. My channel didn't start to grow until I gave up on that stuff. I just decided that I would quit worrying about subs or views and just try to make videos that would help someone. In my head, I pictured some single parent out there who's already working and they need something that gives them control and hope. I started making videos for that person. In my head, there's someone out there that I might be able to help. I'm focused now on trying to figure out what video would do them the most good. When I started making those videos, the channel has done better.
I guess I'm paranoid, because it almost seems to me as if someone is deliberately sending bots to popular UA-cam channels, to cause problems. After all, if you continue to make a reduced revenue, maybe you'll quit. Or maybe UA-cam will shut you down, because you can't prove you aren't doing this. This sort of thing is very frustrating to me. I've got a small UA-cam channel, I was hoping to have it grow organically and eventually monetize it, but now I'm wondering whether it would be worth it.
It is scary. On one hand, yes, it's worth it. On the other, I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket. Right now, I'm fully monetized and working hard to put out videos that actually help people. But, I've lost my confidence in this as a dependable income. It's scary because I did not wrong and UA-cam literally didn't care. I love UA-cam because of it's potential. I'm still doing UA-cam. But, I have to make sure I don't focus on this at the expense of making sure I don't have other secure streams of revenue coming in.
I'm just starting out, and issues with branding have been preventing me from growing. Now, I'm wondering if it's worth it for me. I did regular videos for a while, but it's very hard for me to keep to a schedule, so I'm wondering if I'd ever see the kind of growth needed for ad revenue.
hey Scot, ran into my first hiccup today. Had my first multi item order and wondering the best way to enter the data on my spreadsheet. Do I split it up among the items, move the items all into one line, or something else?
I typically use the data that is available in my sold listings. A tax professional can better direct you. I use a cost out and revenue in model. As a result, I don't track individual items. So, I'm not keeping a separate spreadsheet of inventory.
Im hoping you explain RPM and the effect because I dont understand it haha
CPM is what advertisers pay per thousand views. RPM is what the creator makes after UA-cam takes their share. The fly in the ointment is determining what is a real view versus a bot.
My wife and I would love to do UA-cam about our eBay selling too but have no idea how to start and what to really talk about and editing, any pointers how to get started?
Oh my...I don't really consider myself a UA-camr. LOL. Go back and watch my first video. It's terrible. LOL
My advice is to just start. I try to learn something with every video. Improve just a little. I use DaVinci Resolve to edit with. I had to teach it to myself, but UA-cam was helpful. Also, try to picture who you're making the videos for. For me, I make videos for someone new to ebay who's looking for help and hope. It keeps me focused on what's important. It's not subscribers or even views. It's about helping someone. I think about that with every video.
is there any recourse to youtube stating and sighting you for having invalid views but you haven't done anything to encourage invalid views .... it seems unfair to the content creator to be penalized for something they have nothing to do with
I'm not aware of any recourse at all. After being down for 6 weeks, it went back up some. It's still not where it was. The bigger issue is that I can't count on it. So, I have to balance out any potential income with other, more stable things.
I truly enjoy making the videos. And I feel like I'm helping people. So, Im planning on sticking with it.

You are approaching a time of the year when sales will start increasing. I use the down times to make sure I'm getting a lot of extra stuff listed. If you are listing high-quality items at a good price, things will pick back up.
