Oh my. You can thank DeSantis education war for this one. Even before DeSantis fired the president of New College it was already announced that DeSantis was giving the college presidency and a $699,000 annual salary to his friend and DeSantis appointed Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, who was also the former Florida GOP Speaker of the House and who has no prior experience running a college. New College has ~ 700 students and was a liberal arts college. Corcoran is a big sports fan, loves football and basketball. Among Corcoran's improbable ideas for the future New College is a shift towards athletics and making it known in college sports. He has stated an interest in turning the museum into an oddly located sports complex. There has been no plans filed for the demolition or construction at the museum site. There has been no fund raising for this sports complex, although I believe that when DeSantis took over New College he did give it $10 million in recurring annual state funding. So presumably with this new $10 million in annual funding that is how the New College sports complex will be built.
This business is a landmark. It is a shame and disgrace New College would do anything like this. It is very selfish and inconsiderate. Putting a business in a situation that will cost them a large amount of money. Really shameful. Maybe they should find somewhere in their college for those classes or department and renovate.
I voted for DeSantis and now regret it, he’ll never get my vote again, he’s just another politician that looks after his friends and donors, if he makes it to Washington watch out, it’ll be more of the same!

This was a decision by the new Ron DeSantis appointed board. Apparently museums are considered woke now.
