I was finally able to convinced the salesperson to open one yesterday and let me smell/buy early. For me it was too much like Ebene Fume to spend the money. Instead I went to MFK for the Oud Satin Mood; extrait - your other videos turned me on to that fragrance house!
A surprisingly cold, dark, wet summer day in Poland and I spritzed on an old friend, Geo. Beene Grey Flannel, that wonderful, character-rich "cheapie," and it's just wafting around me, giving me intrigue, ambience and, yes, dare I say mystery all day long, and somehow I think I'm getting tons more value for money than Tom Ford MM could ever approach. I got a real kick out of this video, I hope you won't mind me saying, because your face telegraphed right from the start, "This one ain't gonna be a wow, folks...."
One of our clients wears Grey Flannel, it smells so good! There's alot to be said for "older" fragrances! I found an original bottle of Euphoria, Eternity and Paloma Picasso in my closet, never opened. I'm enjoying them lately! Paloma Picasso will never smell as good as this bottle!
Appreciate your honest review, Sebastian! I’m not a fan of the overall direction of Tom Ford under Estée Lauder so far, which is a shame. This will be a pass for me. At this price point, the fragrance should be perfect!
morganylong5555-Thank you for pointing this out. I hadn't realized that Lauder produced fragrances for Tom Ford since 2006 under a license agreement until you mentioned it 🤔
@@morganylong5555I think she maybe meant since Estée Lauder was the sole owner of Tom Ford brand and all its intellectual property which was pretty recent.
I’m really happy that myrrh is having a moment. I love resinous notes. I will definitely give this one a try as Le Labo Myrrhe 55 was a bit of a let down for me
When I hear Coca Cola/church I instantly think of Full Incense from Montale which I like a lot. Thanks for taking the hit on such an expensive fragrance and the great review
It happened to me that a fragrance that some say it doesn't last, on my skin lasts all day, in special citrus fragrances, sadly citruses are not my favorite notes, and some woody heavier fragrances last 2-4 hours, so go figure, every skin is different. I was very excited about this one, I will try it, the prices are crazy, if I like it I'll wait until it hit discounters or I find a reasonable deal. Thanks for the review Sebastian!!!
I have heard they are looking for a way to build the atomizer into the decanter package the same way Kilian does. (Also Estee Lauder...) I wish they'd figure it out, though. I heard they are also going to keep custom colored travel atomizers to match the releases. For the prices they're charging for decanters these days they should include already filled travel custom atomizers.
Looking forward to that myrrh video. Love the smell of myrrh, both burned, and also when droping it onto boiling water. The latter smells wonderful! To me like a cocacola gelatin, something along those lines, simply beautiful smell.
Tragic that FM is compromised. These Tom Fords are still appealing in their bottles and labels- almost addictive but the scent itself usually disappoints.
this will be one for men i think or certain woman but not me. Very interesting you mention this when i spray right after the shower perfume always smells worse on me then when i wake up in the morning.

They lost me after "Lost Cherry." The only Tom Ford I see getting is the " Black Orchid Toilette." Memo Paris has taken over for me. African Leather reminds me of the Tom Ford of old. I miss him.
Speaking of incense, yesterday I had to speak in a church on a dark-ish, cool-ish, damp-ish Sunday, and in an underlit interior, and on very ancient mysterious things, and as I sniffed my various fragrances, both FBs and samples, for something that fit the mood and the moment, I sniffed Etat Libre d'Orange 500 Years and...WOW...it was everything the whole morning felt like to me. To me 500 years is like Tauer Rose Incense with ramped-up musty, mysterious, cavernous darkness.
Ok I literally spit out my coffee at the price ... I know it is unpopular on here but I will wait for the Middle Eastern Clone for probably about $40 (should take about a month or two) .. sorry it is either that or quite frankly I will not get it. Hmmm did AI create this fragrance???
Myrrhe Mystere's spiciness reminded me of Heaven Can Wait, although MM was more potent and projecting, and again lasted quite a long time (sorry). It's just too robust for me this time of year. I'd like to give it a spin when it's colder. To compare, I wear perfume daily, I love resinous, amber (labdanum/benzoin/vanilla/patchouli, spicy perfumes. I do struggle with perfumes with more than the smallest touch of Ambroxan, Cetalox, Norlimbanol, etc. They tend to amplify on my skin. Wearing Barkhane by Teo Cabanel today...
Any thoughts on when did the golden age of Tom Ford private blend fragrances ended (if you think it ever did!)? I'll be controversial and say 2013 with Tobacco Oud, Oud Fleur, Plum Japonais etc, although they do of course still have occasional hits to this day.
Yeah - it's my favourite! In the UK and it is still available here (even on the TF website) but the SA in Fenwick did say it had been discontinued (no stock there) - perhaps places are running down stock (was discounted in TK/TJ Maxx). Can't see it working in the signature line, so will try to get a back-up bottle!
I have just picked up Hugo Boss Bottled Elixir, and it's such a unique fragrance. Honestly, how you describe this Tom Ford sounds like how i would describe Boss Elixir! Definitely check it out when you can Sebastian 👍
@ThePerfumeGuy I'm in the UK and i got it online from the Perfume Shop, none of the other online retailers had it yet. I'm not sure about availability in USA, it should be dropping there anytime though i reckon 👌
Eeek! You startled me with that explosion! 😱😆 It sounds interesting. I love myrrh. I’ve even used a myrrh toothpaste in the past. On its own, myrrh is pretty subtle. I wouldn’t expect it to be beastly, and keep its myrrh quality. I do prefer to go on a journey with my perfumes, but I’ve also enjoyed some that are more linear because it was a great smell, and I didn’t get bored with it. If they used a good amount of natural myrrh as well, I wonder if the scent will become richer over time? I definitely would like to try it. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your myrrh video. 😊
I would certainly enjoy this fragrance which is perfect for this time of year, but it does sound like it could do with a few additional notes to enhance the experience
The Tom Ford brand just feels insincere to me now. That exclusivity and pioneering feels to have been replaced with unjustified prices, still hanging on the coat tail reputation of the man long gone.
Hey Sebastian, TF online UK now have this half price for the 250ml and you get the swanky clutch atomiser free. £342.50 instead of £685.I’ve had to take a chance and I think it’s a really nice fragrance, I get a bit of a Tobacco Vanille vibe. Soleil Brulant is half price too which makes that more appealing as well!
It's great that you illuminate just how nuanced and subjective projection really is when it comes to fragrance. That's why I'm with you about avoiding the discussion because it can cause such a commotion. 👍 Anyhow, Myrrhe Mystere sounds pleasant, if not entirely groundbreaking.
You can always tell whether Sebastian likes a fragrance from the video image and the way he begins the video... 😜, for that price, no thanks. Thanks for the review.
I bought a tiny sample of this and tried it on and I do like it very much. But I agree that it is a one dimensional fragrance and is not strong enough. I could only smell it when I put my arm to my nose. To me it was very interesting, but I haven’t smelled as many fragrances as you have. I’m just a newby. :D
With Tom Ford now retired from fashion/beauty & concentrating on film again i wonder if Peter Hawkings, the new creative director, will shake things up & take things in his own direction & make things more interesting.
