I just added 2 new handguns into the rotation. The SAR9 & the Canik TP9 SF Elite. No malfunctions with either handgun and both are very accurate. Neither handgun cost $400 & the SAR9 is absolutely one of the most comfortable handguns I've ever held.

the one you practice the most with should be your carry gun, the home defense gun should be another gun that has a higher capacity. For example, you might carry a glock 43X with 10+1 rounds, but it makes more sense to run a glock 19X which has 19+1 rounds(double stack 33 round mags also compatible)

My nightstand gun is a Sig P320 in .40 S&W. I’ve owned it probably least 15 years. Other than night sights, no fancy bells and whistles. I recently purchased a Legion X5 which I love. Once I get a red dot on it and some more trigger time on it I’ll probably retire the older P320…..maybe they are both great guns so it’s a tough call. Lots of great guns mentioned. Find a gun you shoot well that you trust and I’m sure virtually any make and model will do the job. Stay Safe 😬👍

I have a very valid point to make here. Don’t buy a specific ammunition to put in your gun when you don’t plan on using it. Having a “defensive ammo” or “carry ammo” or just a specific type of ammunition that you only plan on using in an emergency, like self defense, is COMPLETELY overthinking the whole thing. You should keep in your gun the same ammo you train with. If you train with FMJ target ammo, KEEP THAT IN YOUR GUN ALL THE TIME. If you keep hollow points in your gun, TRAIN WITH THAT AMMO all the time. Different ammo will have different velocity rates, recoil impulse, and your holds will always be different between training ammo and duty ammo. Not bashing duty ammo, just saying, CARRY WHAT YOU ARE USED TO SHOOTING.

I suppose that it depends on the caliber and barrel length. A shorter barrel is better for maneuverability in a home. It also means the round is less likely to pass completely through walls/objects. However, the damage potential is almost always reduced to wound channels that are not much different from 9mm hollow points. In which case, you might as well just use a PCC in 9mm such as AR-9, CMMG Banshee, B&T, CZ Scorpion EVO, etc.

I use the FNX 45 and have several in gun boxes around the house. The gun box and that's it name is awesome. I use frangible ammo so it won't over penetrate. My son keeps his AK47 next to the bed, and that seems to be a deterrent.
