At this point I just get obsessed about a particular genre and then I'll go read up on what I've been missing. Some UA-cam pages I like that do mixes are The Record Library, My Analog Journal, Book Club Radio etc. All it takes is Shazam to find new stuff.

I'm a nomad so I actually check out whatever is available on the plane's tv thing that I don't already know. I've discovered some gems. Specially since I don't stick to a particular airline, so a lot of them will include their home countries' artists on their selection.

One of the ways I discover new music is going to a record label of an artist I like and listen to other artists in that record label. Also going to concerts and listening to the opening band. In the 99% of the cases, if I like the main bend, I'll like the opening band

And they usually but in a decent amount of work to tailor it to their fans!

On my bachelor trip (went to Utah, highly recommend) my buddies and I just looked up songs titled Utah or playlists and found some fun songs, good way if you are planning a trip. It’s a nice little reminder of your travels when you are out and about daily life hearing those songs

when i was young i used to discover so much music through video game soundtracks. like early tony hawk, wwe, 2k exposed me to so many different genres. there's a substantial amount of kids probably learning about artists thru fortnite's radio and in game music events lol. not so common for me now but an interesting method that was unintentional.

I feel like algorithms on youtube and Spotify used to be sooo much better at suggesting me music that I like. Before i'd get so many adjacent genres, sounds etc now I either get fed carbon copies of music that I currently listen to, or I just get the most popular artists of the genres I listen to.

I don't listen to radio because in my head radio is connected to the news and there's a lot of awful stuff/propaganda in news and I don't want to hear something bad when I'm enjoying something

Derrick you smashed this. thank you so much. I looked back at your older video on this after I messaged you and since then, i've had NTS radio on repeat. My 2 favourites right now are A.G and Test Pressing. Do you have any recommendations on people I should be listening to on NTS?

Sometime I go to the record store and chose any album based on the cover design I like. 50% of chance I end up liking the band or the artist:)

You simply don't and continue to listen to the same albums that you listened to between age 16-22!
    :)
