Making Sodium Nitrate A Strong Oxidizer

  • When it burns it gives off a bright yellow color. Sodium Nitrate is a strong oxidizer used in a number of pyrotechnic applications. It can be made using sodium hydroxide and ammonia nitrate. And, can be purified without too much trouble.

    I always end up using gravity settling to separate insolubles rather than filtering... I have the time to let it sit and settle for many hours but not to wait for it to go thru a filter for some reason 🤣🤷‍♂️

    Great video. But I have a question, you know a lot about chemistry, did you learn it as a hobby or were/are you a chemist?

      Thank you! I have some background in chemistry from university studies but most of what I do now began as a hobby. Like some, I started with pyro reactions and then spread out.

    You must try to use sodium carbonate instead of hydroxide. Its works too. Much safer
