I packed my 4x all over Afghanistan in 2003 on my M4 with M203. Mine did not have the fiberoptic, just the bolt on iron sight on the rear wings and the tritium front blade. I know they will take a beating and keep on ticking. As an Airborne Infantryman I can really appreciate that it never failed me, hence my love for Trijicons, Aimpoints and Surefires. I KNOW they work. I have astigmatism so prism sights are always my go to now. I really like the ones from Steiner. I just purchased one of there 5x's a little while ago and really like it, super clear glass. Price was just a hair under half of what what an RCO costs. Not cheap but its a proven name. Eye relief is alot like the 4x acog.
With a LACK of videos covering the TA55, could you please make a detailed vid going over the 5.5x and why someone may or may not want that over the other options?
If you can't afford an ACOG then I have two suggestions. #1- Hensolt FERO Z24 4x24 West German scope . You'll need an ARMS mount use it. It's the stanag to picatinny mount. Rivals Trijicon glass. No surprise. It's also Schott glass I think. #2- IOR Valdada M1 scope. Both scopes are good for impact/ weather resistance.
Using a 1.5x ACOG for years now. Still like it. Glass is better than the decade newer PA Gen 2 Slx 1x and surprisingly weighs about the same. More durable as well, but yeah, paid 4x more than the PA 1x scope, but the PA also didn't exist over a decade ago. By the way, tritium is still good in it, actually better now cause it was too bright at night a decade ago.
just attach the add on LED illuminator (REM ACOG) to the TA31 4x32 and you get all the advantages of the TA110 LED model. It has 11 brightness settings and only weighs 2.6 oz. It is also designed to help reduce the reticle bloom in bright daylight. The bonus is you will never have to replace the tritium. Just turn on the REM ACOG to its lowest setting and you are good to go. It is made of the same material as AR pistol grips.
I once did a carbine course that had a scored portion at the end. Most people had aimpoints and eotechs, but 4 dudes showed up with TA-50s. The cours of fire was at 7 yards and 25 yards, so at first I didn't envy those guys with the mini 3x. But those 4 dudes were in the top 5 on the scored portion of the course of fire, maybe it wasn't the optic, maybe it was because those 4 guys were total tactical Chadz!

The Acog is great for what it is, but with LPVOs, 6x magnifiers and much more affordable alternatives like the Vortex Spitfire 5x, there are better or more affordable alternatives for all of it's functions.
I have never had to send an ACOG back for a customer. There is a difference between a service grade and civilian grade optic. What you are (should be) paying for in a service grade optic is 100% reliability.
With a unity cog mount(adjustable eye relief) attaching an Acro p2 and ta31F it’s less them 16oz, you won’t get any lighter a setup with a 4x and true 1x red dot. That’s half the weight of a 1-6 or 1-8 lpvo with mount and offset red dot. With more fov, amazing clarity and durability and don’t need batteries to change besides once a year with the red dot. It definitely still has a place on carbines, especially with a light, laser and suppressor. So do lpvos, all depends on what you want from it
Own two 1.5x16 ACOGs, a 2x20 ACOG and have used the 4x32 ACOGs in the military. Definitely worth the money if you can afford em. Would love to try the 3.5x or the 5x just for fun.

After running the rco and then sdo on the m27 iar and seeing some of the vcog LPVO's, the cheap Amazon chinesium acogs are actually super close for the price difference ($150) real etched fiber optic reticle with accurate bdc downside is the closer eye relief than the real thing and you have to loctite the base mount.
