Maeve’s Vanessa was so wonderful to watch and learn from. I know people remember the Vanessa fur scene most, but the 2 scenes i remember most are a scene in which Vanessa recalls Alex(Beverlee M) lets her help her get ready for prom and Vanessa reading Henry’s letters after he passed. Both so impactful for me.
Absolutely love Maeve Kinkead. I remember the first day Vanessa showed up on Guiding Light and was a huge fan of hers ever since. Maeve played the role flawlessly.. Thought her big hair was gorgeous and one of my favorite scenes with Vanessa was the one between Tony Reardon and Vanessa having a knock-down drag-out fight at Spaulding Enterprises and as I remember it I believe Douglas M wrote the scene but I could be wrong about that. Anyway, Tony picked up Vanessa and laid her across his lap and spanked her...lol. It was electric!
This interview is one of my all-time favorites. (Up there with Kim and Robert and the "Marah's.") Maeve is so thoughtful and her voice so musical in the loveliest of ways. Hi Alan! Maeve Kinkaid was on Another World!!! Remember Kathleen Widdoes(Bea Reardon)!!! You still look fantastic Maeve!! Seeing Vanessa grow into the classy woman she was when she met Billy Lewis(Jordan Clarke)! But I loved Vanessa with Matt Reardon, Nola's brother!!! Loved William Roerick(Henry Chamberlin). Vanessa's beloved DADDY. He was always there for you! What I loved is when Vanessa was nervous just before talking about her former father-in-law HB Lewis! She delivered that speech with deep love and respect. Maeve and Kathleen in Another World! Funny how you recognize actors in their early careers when they've succeeded!!!! Ray Liotta turned out to be an excellent actor very successful. That listening like you said he did in his early career certainly helped him later in his career!!!! Love you Maeve!
Of all the Locher Rooms, this is probably my favorite. I loved Vanessa Chamberlain Lewis Reardon. The scenes with Billy, Dinah, and Ross I watched when they aired. I can so hear Vanessa saying "Daddy" to Henry now. I also loved Vanessa's friendship with Maureen Bauer. Maeve and Eleanor Parker had great chemistry.
@@frankcheers7529 She loved her daddy and her best friend Maureen. Two of the most saddest occasions for Vanessa was Henry and Maureen's deaths, those two deaths broke her heart and ours as well.

Yes we do micheal and I agree with you about daytime today and charecter devolpment. Was last night watching again aw from September 1991. You know with lady killer beginings when Olivia would get injured and that was a perfect example of finding talent but miscasting them. But also a lot of hanging Chad storylines. And lack of charecter devolpment and ruining charecters. Also I was glad meave talked about Jordan Clarke yes he got arrested and had drug issues but it was handled very poorly right after the show had just gotten Billy and vanassa back together. I wish Jill back then had handled things more like how laurance caso and Doug Marland handled things with micheal David Morrison. Or Ben Hendrickson. Because when you don't then things like stars ending up arrested before they get a chance to go to rehab happens now vice versa Jill faren phelps did an excelent job handling things with Tyler Christopher at general hospital. And made sure things did not leak or Tyler got arrested. But I think that's because she learned perhaps from what happened with Jordan Clarke. Now as for Matt and vanassa and Kurt Mckinney, I am glad meave tried to advocate for him and say I think Matt and vanassa needs to be broken up. And he needs to be paired with a costar his own age and get more story and good for her because I always thought Kurt should have worked with Fiona Hutchinson and did a Matt Jenna Bradshaw pairing. And that's something I think Jill faren phelps aid the writers missed out on.
Just loved Maeve as Vanessa. I watched her on Another World first. So glad you visited that part of her career. Henry Chamberlain one of my favorite characters and I loved the father/daughter dynamic. This has been such a wonderful conversation. Such a lovely lady.
Love it!!!! So delighted to hear how close she and Jordan were. Maeve had amazing chemistry with everyone she acted with. It's because of her that I would get off the school bus and run as fast as I could all the way home to turn on the light!!!
A great interview, Alan! I know Maeve has joined you for several other sessions but it was great to hear her have a chance to be on her own and talk about her AW and GL experiences! Very interesting to hear her thoughts on everything. Even as Vanessa (and/or the head writer at the time!) changed and evolved, Maeve kept a throughline to Vanessa. I'm glad GL revisited the Dinah storyline in the mid-90s, because that had really not been explored to its full potential when it originally played out. Didn't know Maeve was originally going to be an English teacher - I have her book of poetry, which is wonderful.

She’s Soo classy she could play a high society lady on one of these cable shows ! Like billions 😊Guiding light was Soo good in the 80s and a lot of the nineties 😊please bring back the soaps we’re used too !!
love love love this interview. There was a pivotal moment in my love of Vanessa and Maeve's interpretation of her, back somewhere in the character's early days. Vanessa was bored by and feeling superior to someone- it wasn't Nola- perhaps Trish Lewis? - who shared some good news with a group of people at a party (or, likely, charity ball as they were wont to have so frequently in Springfield.) Vanessa smiles beneficently and says, cool as a cucumber snake: "How nice for you." To this day, that is my ultimate, most snarky diss.
Also Toni Kalem of course played Angie Bonspiero on The Sopranos and directed the Episode in which Carmella was in the House by herself. Then in a funny co-incidence alot of Guiding Light Actors had recurring roles on The Sopranos.
Over the years, the various headwriters used Vanessa differently. Marland wrote her as the vixen, Long used her more as a romantic lead, and Curlee, et al showed us the skilled businesswoman. Maeve played each of these characterizations brilliantly and must have been a wonderful scene partner, because she always shone but never stole anyone else's light.
Guiding Light is my favorite soap opera. I still watch episodes on UA-cam. My second favorite is As the World Turns. It broke my heart when they were canceled. These soaps now all suck. I haven't watched a soap opera (except repeats of my faves) since they were canceled.

Has anyone ever seen the movie “Passion Fish”? Mary McDonald was nominated for an Oscar, playing a soap actress stricken, recouping after illness. There are scenes of McDonald’s character’s soap work, and I swear McDonald must have studied Vanessa Chamberlain because she acts just like her. Great to see Ms. Kinkead, speaking of “Vanessa”, she is a fan of Vanessa Redgrave… I wonder if she enjoys “Call the Midwife”? ❤
I always wanted to know if Maeve’s sister in law Meryl Streep ever considered taking a part on Guiding Light to give the show publicity. Meryl could have been a Hope Bauer recast, don’t you think Alan 😊

Yes of course Reva was pregnant and lost the baby when Vanessa hit her with the car, that was the whole purpose of the writers having Vanessa back into her. Imagine if it was just to give Reva a sprained ankle. SMH 🤦♂️ that wouldn’t be much of a story. hahahaha. Great show today, Alan!!!
Just getting to re-watch this Alan, loving meave's stories but I should have asked you to ask meave about Doug Watson who was in that clip you were showing. From aw but I will say this meave was lucky she got to experience harding Lemays great writing at aw and Doug Marlands brilliant writing at guiding light. And of course her talking about Jordan Clarke I guess I liked how vanassa always knew how to handle Billy. As for the pill storyline they was defenetely out of charecter for vanassa. Because from what I remember from the early 1990s was vanassa having to deal with Billy's alcoholism and when he would fall off the wagon. And Alan I still think Jill faren phelps could have handled Jordan Clark's drug addiction better before he got arrested. Since aperently everyone knew. But I think jill did learn her lesson because she handled things very well with Tyler Christopher and his alchohol problems. But I still think Jordan needed to be sent to rehab before his arrest and things needed to be handled more like how Doug Marland and laurance caso handled things with Micheal David Morrison. And sure micheal lost the battle a few days before he was supposed to go back to rehab but at least laurance caso and Doug Marland were trying and swinging hard I think because they knew if micheal got arrested how it could effect the show. But once Jill was gone I know it was micheal liabson who rehired Jordan Clarke and Paul Rauch kept him. And as much critisms that I have of micheal liabson of his time at aw and mistakes he made at guiding light more in the begining at least he was the one who gave Jordan another chance. And as for Jean Carol and Nadine I hated what pam long wrote with Billy cheating on vanassa with Nadine and Nadine bieng a homewrecker but what Stephen and Nancy did and hiring Justin deas and Jill with buzz Cooper I absolutely loved, where Nadine turned into one of my favorite charecters. Until Michael liabson with Megan McTavish ruined that. By killing Nadine. And I am bringing it up because Alan Micheal c and I have been having a lot of conversations about soaps today not properly developing charecters or not writing for the charecters. Like the vanassa pill storyline which explains why meave would have trouble with it bevause that was out of charecter for vanassa why the heck would vanassa charecter become addicted to pills when it was vanassa who was hard on Billy with his alchohol addiction but also the one who got him help. Still miss my soaps aw would have been 60 this week atwt almost 70 years old guiding light in its early 70s for TV but In it's 80s I think if we include the radio years when it started. And ohh I forgot I think aw started as a spinoff off of guiding light with Mike buar moving to bay city from Springfield maybe with his daughter hope buar I think but don't quote me on that before Mike baur returned to Springfield a few years later. And that's what I meant Alan when said aw was intended for CBS but CBS did not have room in its schedule for aw back in 1964. And that's how it ended up on NBC. But it should have been moved to CBS in like 1985. Because if the crap NBC was constantly giving the show.
The first time I remember seeing the character,Vanessa, she had stripped down and Ed was trying to fight temptation. Lol. I really came to like her character .
Vanessa Chamberlain was the Jacqueline Kennedy of the Guiding Light!!

Maeve Kinkead was always my favorite.. would love to be able to say to her.. thank you.
GL entertained me since 1980.. thank you for having these interviews. really miss the show. thanks to your interview with Colleen Zenk I've tuned into Y&R for the first time.
Billy and Vanessa ❤❤❤
Alan you do such a great job!
I appreciate that, Chris. Thank you so much.
Thanks!
Vanessa Chamberlain Reardon Lewis 😘
Has anyone ever seen the movie “Passion Fish”? Mary McDonald was nominated for an Oscar, playing a soap actress stricken, recouping after illness. There are scenes of McDonald’s character’s soap work, and I swear McDonald must have studied Vanessa Chamberlain because she acts just like her. Great to see Ms. Kinkead, speaking of “Vanessa”, she is a fan of Vanessa Redgrave… I wonder if she enjoys “Call the Midwife”? ❤
Wow that's so fascinating, Erik. Thanks for sharing that and for watching.
Vanessa was lucky, she got involved with nice guys, Ross, Billy, and Matt.
Don’t forget Tony Reardon! 🫠
I recall as a pre teen, a spolied Vanessa trying to break up Eve and Ross.
GL was my favorite. The writing for the shows these days does not compare.
Ellen as Mo too so many Guiding light the best 1975 - late summer of 1984❤
Vanessa Chamberlain Lewis Lewis Readon ❤❤❤
I thought Vanessa and Billy had tremendous chemistry. Does anyone know how Jordan Clarke is doing?
I don't, Gail. I wish I did.
I always wanted to know if Maeve’s sister in law Meryl Streep ever considered taking a part on Guiding Light to give the show publicity. Meryl could have been a Hope Bauer recast, don’t you think Alan 😊
That would have certainly given us a jolt. I don't think Meryl would have ever done that, but it would have been great.
Just watching this now and completely agree that the addiction storyline didn’t make sense for Vanessa.
Love Elvera Hope Rebecca as Trish Denise as Katie Marsha Hillary wonderful actress and Kim as Reva ❤
She has aged very well. Time passes quickly.
I'm getting my modern ragtime piano solos into a music book w 10 modern Ragtime 11]06]2024 probably in January 2025

Sure thing -- she spoke of many of her co-stars that fans dearly loved.
@@TheLocherRoom michael tylo was quint her half brother lol, chris bernau alan married her lol, rebecca hollen was trish her bestie through thick and thin
I am confused with how Maeve stated she started with AW in 1975 or did I hear that incorrectly? Toni Kalem played the role until 1977
I may have gotten that wrong, Dennis. It does look like it's 1977.
Thank you my friend! Happy Pride! I hope your summer is going well.
Love your videos.Alan I know your married but you are adorable!
Awww -- thank you, Robert. I do appreciate that.
I never knew the actor who played Billy had substance issue problems.
Just getting to re-watch this Alan, loving meave's stories
but I should have asked you to ask meave about Doug Watson who was in that clip you were showing.
Thank you, Gabriel. Have a great day.
Did you ever talk about the girls on Guiding light that wore their mink coats they weren't cheap on the show.
The first time I remember seeing the character,Vanessa, she had stripped down and Ed was trying to fight temptation. Lol. I really came to like her character .
Loved Vanessa!
I remember when Vanessa's hair was black
Hello
She was on drugs and hit Reva with her own car Billy Lewis tried to help venassa
Thank you, Christopher.
