    Hi! I'm looking at your old recordings because I like your educational work! Thanks!
    As for the key selection, I have a funny remark.
    I mostly choose the key of fa, simply because on most synthesizers, the key of do is the last one on the keyboard and dominates the key of fa) It's just convenient, and the last key can't be missed live.
    Of course, sometimes you want to play a major subdominant in B flat, but to enhance the drama, the lower dominant sounds cool...

    One other thing is that it just gets your hands into different shapes and you get fresh ideas improvising in a key you’re not used to. Happened a bunch if times for me, after playing the same ideas in c-minor over and over, I switch to something weird like g#-minor, and all of a sudden I’m having fresh ideas just because I’m forced to find new shapes with my hands. Breaks all your habits.

    Great video man, learning even a little bit of music theory goes a long way in picking the right notes that sound good together. Its a lot better than trial and error like I used to do when I first started making tunes many years ago before youtube videos for tutorials were a thing

    This video is one of the most important videos in music theory on UA-cam. But nobody understands. This is what the music "teachers" Adam Neely and Rick Beato don't understand. The literally believe that the emotion doesn't change if you play or sing in a different key.
    The real truth is that we hear in a spectrum. There are 12 notes between Middle C and a high C (an octave), just as there are 12 division of color in the chromatic color wheel.
    Chromatic Scale = Chromatic Spectum.
    Middle C begins the rainbow with the most fiery, warm, weighty key. (The C note by itself sounds fiery).
    C# is the blood now pumping. Vigor. See Vangelis's "Chariots of Fire," the song for the Olympics.
    D is orange. Tummy Chakra. Happy belly means contentment. (See Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," Symphony no. 9 in D).
    (Conversly, D as the happiest key becomes the saddest key when in minor. D minor is the saddest of all keys. Makes people weep instantly." From This is Spinal Tap (1984).
    E-flat is a orange yellow. A "golden yellow." Discovery. Coming to awareness. (See Fleetwood Mac's "Mystified"). Is is the first magical key.
    E is yellow. BIight key. Flash of light. The light of Christ. Key of consciousness and full awareness and presence.
    F# is Grass green. Growth. Transition from the human and animal to the plant and earth world. (F if lime green. Envy. But also release. Letting go. Pouplar for Gospel music.)
    G is turquoise. Communication. Aquamarine. Words "flowing" form the Tonge.
    A-flat is the key of death or estrangement. Blue. Circular. See Sting's famous "stalker song" Every Breath You Take, which he wrote as he was stalking his ex wife's apartment when she was shacking-up with her new man. "Every breath you take, I'll be watching you."
    A, at 432hz Scientific tuning is important. I don't know how to explain it simply, so I'll just say that if C is red (God's universal love), the A is sort of the element that allows for that love to move. A is elemental. It is both earth AND sky. I can say no more. Too much to type. A is Indigo blue. Blue-violet.
    B-flat is the second magical key. See "Blue Velvet" by Bobby Vinton. Blue-violet color. Purple. Prince & the Revolutions "Purple Rain" was LITERALLY written in the key purple. Bb is the dream.
    B major is the dream made real. B major is the Spirit. Ghosts. Ray Parker Jr. "Ghostbusters" theme was written in B major. Magenta. The last color in the rainbow before the spectrum disappears into ultra violet. Ray Parker Jr. was a REAL musical. Adam Neely is Marxist who go his degree in music a Berkley College of musical in the San Fransisco
    Bay area. (And I, myself am a gay man, so you can't call me homophobic.) Adam Neely is a Woke monster. And he's very smart. Smarter than me. Which is scary, and diabolical. // But I'm a wiser. God, for the most part, is with me.
    Magenta (B) merges back into C (red). Rebirth. Born again unto the Lord.
    Read 'em and weep, hoes!
    Thank you Analog Kitchen for this blessed video. God is with you. God bless you and yours.. Please, everyone, come visit me at _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

    how long is your typical track when you play live? How long do you leave the same motifs until you switch them out - kind of like a DJ would put on a new record, where a track is defined by its melodic and/or rhythmic motifs? Thanks in advance!!

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  Рік тому +2

      This might be the one thing that still blows my mind. I can be 15minutes in and still be on the build. It all depends on how you cope with the expectation of the crowd. Tip: play as many off measures in the beginning as you can. 8 bars, 6 bars 7 bars etc. Straying away from the predictable dj 8-16-32 is what give longevity to the floor. My record is 10 mins now. 303, kick and closed 808. The more I filtered out the kick, the crazier the crowd got

    How you made the sub 37 polyphonic? Is it with another vst, the sub 37 vst? I'm struggling and could use some help 😅

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  8 місяців тому +1

      Haha. It’s a common mistake and I love to boast with it. The sub 37 is paraphonic meaning you can play both oscillators separately (one bass and one lead).
      Since it’s my master keyboard, I’m playing different synths so it appears to look like a polyphonic synth. I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed you. There’s a poly moog but you’ll be offering up a kidney for it

    If you didn’t have a sample you started with and were creating all parts from scratch how would you then choose a key? This is my issue an£ I end up sticking with the same key.

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  Рік тому +1

      I choose what feels natural at that moment. But I do look for inspiration elsewhere. If there's a sample or sound I could use, I'd prefer it. As most of us are soloists, it's best to find something that can inspire the way band members would in say a band or orchestra

    Bruff, I appreciate your real life approach to sharing music making knowledge. But I really struggle to hear your videos. My laptop volume is maxed at every level. Other channels come through loud and clear. But usually music or audio related channels are difficult to hear, I think because they've followed YT's rules and suggestions about audio levels (while YT ads are at least 6-12dbs louder than any video YT serves, the fam is regularly blown back through the wall when watching YT vids with dinner or something and a YT ad suddenly plays... seriously).
    But non-music or audio related channels, who don't know anything about db's, dbfs, or luff's, compress and limit their video's audio levels well into the loud range, where I have to turn down my laptop. BUT, music or audio channels follow YT's audio guidelines, and are difficult to hear as a result. Don't drink that koolaid. I'll grant my chromebook has shiete audio capabilities, but I can hear your music, but your dialog levels could definitely use fast peak compression, slow rms compression, and brick wall limiting... LIke 4db's more of gain reduction for EACH of these dynamic processes.
    Just one viewer's and listener's opinion.

    • @AnalogKitchen
      @AnalogKitchen  11 місяців тому

      I was struggling myself with it because believe me when I say it’s fine going in. I also noticed that UA-cam squashes the hell out of the audio and as I’m uploading 4K, I’m getting flattened a lot more The if I would upload a lower bandwidth. I’ve noticed that if I want to be audible my music levels need to be way too low so it’s a struggle. We had the same thing when I worked for radio. The Optimod has an easier time boosting a 30-60sec commercial than the regular content.
      Thanks for pointing it out. I am aware of it and check out my later content as I’ve fixed it more or less but you have a point there. Non music related channels (or other channels too) are louder. I’ll investigate. Meanwhile, keep coming back and thanks for watching!
