      In addition maybe add a old-west style to the whole game in general? Change the classes like mage to gunslinger. I know it would affect the story, but since the game uses playing cards decks, it fits in a traditional way, and even better with your Four Horsemen idea.

      @@christopherf8812 The rogue can't. The written rules say the rogue can discard "two CLASS cards" to assassinate, so it doesn't include wounds. There's a bunch of important, easy-to-miss stuff like this in the rules, my first-ever playthrough was totally wrong. :)

    I think rogue should have a counterattack ability. He flips over the top card of his wound deck and adds it to his regular deck, as if taking damage. If the card is higher than the attacker, it destroys that card. If it is lower than the attacker, the rogue will take the damage that was supposed to be dealt.

      I love this Counterstrike mechanic. I might also add the Dodge ability which would function as a block, but would not move monsters into the Block zone and would be usable against monsters already in the Block zone.

    • @khzhak
      @khzhak 5 років тому +9

      I like the feel of the chance-y dodge mechanic. That said, I think the counterattack ability would be a good fit too, like Rogues had Riposte in D&D 4E. It seems a little OP though, so to offset it, combine it with Dodge's mechanic, except you only dodge a targeted attacker, not all attackers, but if the top card is higher as well, it kills the enemy. It's a risky gambit however, as it's possible to beat the enemy and still take damage, as if you don't successfully dodge, but you hit with the counterattack, you could kill the enemy, but still get hurt in the process.

      Been playing your variant, which is really great.
      For now, may I suggest a couple of things for the Rogue:
      - Assassination: You may use 2 cards combined to attack a monster (Adding their values instead of Instakilling any monster).
      - Assassination: It must be clear if Assassination works to kill a God (I'm playing as Yes, it can...)
      - Dodge: Only work once per turn.
      - Counter: Only work once per turn. If the value of the FIRST card is higher than the attacker monster.
      Anyone created a Discord server about this?
      Edit: Now I notice that the * means you can only use once per turn... I suggest writing it on each ability instead of the *.
      Edit 2: What's the reason of Mage's Teleport? (Except teaming up with a Warrior with Determination)

    I think that a cool ability for the rogue would some sort of ability where when a rogue is hit, he gets a free attack on whatever attacked him, and still gets to draw a card back after the attack. It would add the element of extra damage to the rogues capabilities, and where the rogue can get more enemies out of the way, to free up for other players. Thoughts?

    So here's my idea for the Rogue's Counterattack
    Once per turn, when the rogue is attacked they can flip over the wound card they take as damage. If the value of the wound card is greater than the value of the attacking card, the monster is destroyed and the wound goes back to the health deck. If attacked by a royal, the rogue can flip over both wound cards and counterattack with the higher card.
    If the wound card drawn is a lower value than the attacking card, the damage is taken as normal.
    This gives the rogue a chance to parry and counterattack to avoid taking damage, but the success of the counterattack is left to chance.
    As an assassin, this also makes the rogue especially good against royals, but weak against normal mobs or large numbers. It balances the fact that his hand will always be pretty empty thanks to his assassinate ability, and means that the more wounds he takes, the less effective his counterattack is, but the more wounds he takes can better facilitate his assassinations.
    Even though he may attack recklessly by throwing out both daggers, he still has a chance to pull out a save at the last second

  • @dodoki36
    @dodoki36 5 років тому +22

    Nice video and nice game bro. I do create my own games too.
    The rogue is also an assassin, so here's my idea for him.
    If it happens that the attacking monster has THE SAME number (or royal type) as the TOP CARD of your discard pile, you as a rogue just kill that monster on the spot. No card needed.
    This brings another level of strategy playing the rogue since you must anticipate the moves of the monsters and try to get the right card on your discard pile at the right moment.
    Fits well imo.

    I was thinking about classes and they’re not worked out or anything, but just to get creativity started.
    Hunter: can combine multiple cards to defend/attack. So combined cards have to be more added up. (Because it has a pet to help)
    Shaman: can set 1 card aside so he can use it in another turn, when needed. That technically means he has 4 cards to choose from, but the token stays untill replaced. Can only have 1 token. (Like placing tokens)
    Necromancer: when discarting a card, he can discard as many cards from his hand as he wants and then takes that same amount of wound cards, technically exchanging them. Then he can use those cards to attack with. If he succesfully attacks the wound cards go back to the wound pile. If not, they are ‘gone’.
    OR
    When he discards he can also discard a wound to pick up a new ability card. Later with wound cards in your hand, when you discard you can also choose to put a wound card back to the wound pile. Its either choosing to trade a wound for an ability or an attack to gain a wound. Control over blood.
    (Like he uses blood magic. Not sure if this works, but maybe with some trial and error and some tweeks, you can make it work)
    Warlock: something sith curses. He doesnt kill immediately. Maybe he can attack any monster with any card but it takes a turn for them to die. Royals need a special treatment offcourse. But something like this.
    Healer/priest: he doesnt attack but can heal and defend with his abilities. No mechanics yet.
    Bard: he plays music that inspires and encourages his friends. He can choose not to attack to play music, so all the others can pick up an extra ability card. If the card is not used this turn it is immediately discarded. If its OP then make him choose someone to pick up a new card or something.
    Monk: no mechanic, but the idea that he is a peaceful martial artist and does not attack unless attacked. So something special in his defences. Putting his attacks in hos defence.
    Druid: changing forms. No mechanics yet, but maybe something with that he can choose to discard his whole hand to change form and have dofferent abilties. Between tank, dps, healer. Offcourse less powerful than the other existing ones.
    Engineer: something with building up his cards. Maybe the ability to combine 2 cards and put them aside for 1 turn. The next turn he can look for the number of the combined cards and put it in his hand. For example: draws a 3, 5, J. He puts away the 3 & 5. Keeps the jack for defence maybe and the next turn at phase 1 he puts the 3 & 5 im the discard pile and gets the 8 out of his deck into his hand. Everything that goes 13 or above, gives you a King.
    Remember that these are not worked through and or finished. I just made them up after watching the videos. So there are changes needed. But I hope it gives some inspiration like your videos gave me 😊

    I just found and saw both of your videos. It looks like a cool game to try and even though I haven’t tried it yet I had an idea based off of D&D “uncanny dodge” if a monster hasn’t been blocked that attacks him it misses but moves to the blocked space. It give his special attack more ability to do things and still goes with what a rouge can and would do. Given rouges are known for high dexterity and movement. Good luck building the rest of the game and thank you for sharing. I will be sharing these videos to my friends and I hope they enjoy it as much as i did.

    Paladin - Attack Ability - Everyone this turn can play thier wound cards if they have any.Playing wound cards heals the player and forces player to draw another card.
    Mage - Def ability - Freeze all enemies.Next turn they take 1 less dmg for example to kill 5 now you need 6 and to kill an ace you need an ace because there's no stronger card than ace.
    Rouge - Attack ability - Your ability now costs 1 card this turn.Flip a coin 2 times.If you get heads once you can use you ability 2 times this turn.If you get heads 2 times you can use your ability 3 times this turn.

    -Wow, in this act the warrior becomes so overpowered he breaks the game.-
    -Unless I'm doing something wrong. The warrior can use any card, even wound cards, even lower-value card, to block any monster, even unblockable ones, even ones attacking other characters, right? I mean, the rules say "can block any monster with any card", and the video says "think about it, there's a lot of depth behind this one". This encourages the player to take that sentence at face value and apply it as it reads: ANY monster, ANY card.-
    -I mean, it really isn't long before gameplay becomes "Other character kills one monster; warrior kills one, warrior blocks the other two." Or possibly "other character kills one, warrior blocks remaining three". Rinse and repeat. And repeat. And repeat. I had to stop playing before I got halfway, it seriously stopped being fun.-
    _EDIT - Never mind! :-D I was totally playing with a broken rule, where you could block any numbers of attacks in the defense phase as long as you had the cards to do it, but the written rules do specify "one card to block one monster". So what I was saying was totally wrong, and fixing it made sense. Yes, the warrior can use wound cards to attack AND defend now, and yes, the warrior can block unblockable monsters, and yes, the warrior can block monsters attacking the OTHER player... but... if he can only block once, then that balances EVERYTHING out!_
    Incidently, I'd also really like to know whether the rogue can assassinate Gods. The rules don't specify, and thematically I'd say not (come on, if you need a special card (read, special weapon or move) to kill a God, how likely is it that a character can do it with just their regular weapons or skillsets?), but I'd really like confirmation.

    Rogue defense: maybe they can dodge an attacking monster if it's lower than their topmost card or their discard pile. Dodging feels good for a speedy, rogue-type, and I guess it would have to be once per turn. Obviously it would turn on and off when their is no discard, but it would change the rogue's gameplay in that now he'd want to discard cards, which plays with/works against his attacking ability. I honestly have not played this game at all, but that's just my first thought.

    hey, I had an idea for active active abilities. Maybe they ar OP, so I'd like to hear about possible drawbacks. These abilities can be triggered during the attacking phase, when you discard an Ace card from your hand to your discard deck.
    The Warrior activates Berserker Mode, and be able to attack twice for the round and the next one. for that, he would have to discard a wound card along with the ace, and need any class cards two values lower to slay a monster. blocking woundn't change, but the warrior would take only one damage per attack from bosses for the duration of the 2 rounds, and wound cards used to attack should still need the standard values to hit
    Paladin could abdicate from attacking for the round and be able to restore all health from any player's hands and a total of five wound cards from both players main deck/discard deck, putting the restored wounds cards in the wound discard pile and shuffling the wound deck and the wound discard pile back together
    The Rogue would activate Series of Assassination. He could kill has many monsters as he want every round with any value of class cards on his hand and cannot be attacked by any monster. Doesn't work against gods. This effect lasts untill: player slays a monster using a lower than required value of class card; after 3 rounds including the one where the ability is activated.
    The Mage would activate Storm Tempest, when he would discard one other class card of his hand, and all monsters with lower values than the discarded card are instantly destroyed by a storm of arcane energy. The mage can't attack or deffend again for this round and the next one, but his ice shield may still be activated

    This is pretty cool stuff, man. I don't know if you're still thinking about this game at all, but here's an idea for the Rogue defensive power: when you get hit, look at the top three cards of the monster deck and rearrange them in any order.

    • @chofmann
      @chofmann 5 років тому

      I'd say this is too weak. You want to cycle through the monster deck fast and rearranging will only stall for a few turns max, but will then result in a much harder line of attack for the players.

    • @Lazarus178
      @Lazarus178 5 років тому

      @@chofmann I don't think of it as stalling so much as matching what's coming to what's in your hand. You wouldn't necessarily arrange the cards you looked at with the largest number furthest down; your priority would be to bring forward the largest card you know you can beat. Suppose on my turn I have 10 8 2 in my hand, and am threatened by a J and 8 of my colour. I would attack with the 8, leaving me facing that J with only the 10 and 2 in mind-- not enough to block. I take damage, and look at the top 3 cards: 10, 4, 6. I could arrange them 4->6->10, but I have what I need to beat that 10 next turn without wasting a high card on one much lower than it, so I should actually put the 10 on top of the stack. There are other possible considerations, too. Suppose I draw 10 8 8 and one of those 8s is my suit. If I have a lot of wounds or low cards in my deck, I might put that 8 on top so that I can remove something from my deck next turn, even if I have to use my 10 to do it. There's more strategy involved than just delaying high cards.

    • @khzhak
      @khzhak 5 років тому

      Maybe if Poison is a subtraction of the enemy's value? Like if you have a nine, but play a three on it, it becomes a six? Jacks are eleven, Queens are twelve, Kings are thirteen, or a queen with a five becomes a seven. It would naturally weaken the royals' attacks as well, because when someone is effected by poison, they aren't as effective. I don't know how to use that, and have the card still available, so barring use of a third deck or dice, maybe leave the poison cards on the poisoned enemies until they die, then the poison is accessible again for the rogue to use. More powerful poisons kill the enemies quicker, and if not outright kill, make them easy pickings for anyone else that attacks them, but the tradeoff is it takes the rogue a little longer to recover/get in position for the next enemy, i.e. circle around them to backstab them/hide in shadows for a turn/etc.

    For pvp maybe do the same thing for monsters except you take half of the deck, being half red and half black, and shuffle those and split it in half so you have a quarter of the deck. the other 3 quarters go between health and attack. the quarter that was shuffled at the start of setup is used as like the monster pile is in act I and you play like that, same attack and health rules as act I and having the seperate classes. both players can be the same class but must be opposite colors if they are.

    Rogue ability: Poisoned Daggers
    When attacked by a non-God monster, the rogue can use any spade card to block by placing that card under the monster with the number showing, but they still become wounded. When the next round comes, the monster has an attack equal to the original value minus the "poison" the rogue left behind, allowing it to be more easily defeated, returning the poison to the rogue's discard pile.

  • @alexbrangan2885

    Idea for Rogue defensive ability:
    *Dodge*: You can block any monster attacking you from the main lane by discarding two Spades of any value. If both Spades are of equal or greater value than the monster, the monster does not move to the block lane.
    This gives the Rogue a choice to make every round; assuming their hand has three Spades, they can choose to Assassinate and block normally, or do a regular attack and hold up for Dodge. But if they accumulate too many wounds, their power and flexibility will start to diminish in the late game.

    -I'd really like for Act III to come out.- _(EDIT - It has!)_ About the rogue, thinking thematically, there are some suggestions out there which rely on drawing a card and, if the card is a certain value... or, as the rules say, the player calls it odd/even, and if they're right...
    ...but these "if's" rather undermine their defensive ability, right? The rogue's the only character dependant on chance for their defensive ability. In a game where the warrior can suddenly be so overpowered as to block anyone, even blocked monsters even ones not attacking him, even using his wound cards, makes little sense to undercut the rogue this much (unless he can assassinate even Gods when discarding two cards. But I get the feeling he can't).
    Characterwise I'd go against counterattack, but that's my personal view. My take on the rogue is that he is a stealthy character, therefore his preferred method of choice is not to even ALLOW ROOM for an attack in the first place. If he has to counterattack, then he's already failed at his primary style, because that means the enemy spotted them and took a swing at them. Dodging and counterattacking are possible at this stage, but the point of class abilities is probably to play the character to its highest degree, and the highest degree of a rogue is probably more akin to "I'm not there, you never saw me, and when you turned around to look I killed you" than "I'm the fencing master, I can dodge anything and everything".
    So my suggestion might be simpler. I haven't read all of these comments, but I haven't seen this suggested yet. Simply: the monster misses, because, when he swung at the rogue, the rogue wasn't there anymore.
    Implementation would be, the first monster which attacks the rogue, going left to right, will miss. The rogue doesn't have to block. The monster probably won't miss again, though, so the monster goes into the unblockable lane. The next monster to attack the rogue this turn, if there are any, won't be as clueless, though.
    Alternatively, the monster who missed could now be confused and dazed, and instead of being moved to the UNBLOCKABLE lane, they could get a similar effect to the mage's "Frozen" status. I don't like that too much, because it duplicates the mage, but thematically it fits.
    -I'll try playing it this way and see how it works. Heh, I wish I had other people to play this with, but this can be played solo pretty well. I can control both characters. If anything, it makes it easier to strategize. Maybe TOO easier. ;)- _EDIT - I never actually did get around to playing this. I actually avoided using the rogue altogether._

    My first thought was Dodge. Once per defense phase, instead of taking a wound card if attacked, the Rogue instead destroys a card from their discard. Scouting, at the end of the defense phase, you can switch one unblocked monster with the next card in the monster deck. Backstab, you may use any card to kill a monster blocked by an ally this phase.

    This game is so unpridctable and fun.
    I was playing it alone with the rogue and paladin player. As a single player I had to manage the healths of both the characters myself.
    I took turns to make two attacks and two turns to do the defence.
    And you guys might not believe it. Using Paladin's health regeneration and rogue's dodge I managed to have 2 and 4 health cards left for the rogue and paladin respectively.
    The last hand for the monsters was dealt. So the four cards included an 8(black), 9(black), 3(red) and A(Zeus), which means 0 health for rogue and 2 for paladin
    I killed 3 and 8 by attacking with both the rogue and paladin and dodged 9's attack by using rogue's ability. Being a black card, Zeus attacked the rogue and I lost the game to the last god.
    If only had one red monster card in the monster hand, I could have used Paladin's defence ability and would have revived one health of the rogue as i had one health card (red) in Rogue's hand.
    As I am writing this comment the last card which happens to be Zeus is sitting alone in the monster hand and staring back at me.

    Rogue could have a counter ability or reversal. Perhaps every block with the rogue kills the attacker, or every attack on the rogue relies on a successful coin toss. You mentioned that the mage needed a strong defensive ability, so maybe you could give the rogue one as well with the coin (allowing the rogue to call heads or tails before the throw to add to the roguishness of it) or maybe the rogue could be more of a glass cannon compared to the other classes.

      I don't know how I feel about this. It strongly depends on when you re-draw your hand.
      Let's say, you redraw after your attack phase. That way you can basically kill two arbitrary enemies each turn. Also, the downside of using two cards (that is, you may have to discard a strong block) is completely irrelevant here. That'd be too strong.
