  • G'day. In this video I run through the process we use to clear muddy dam water using a flocculant. We recommend using WaterTreats Flocculant (lovemypond.com...) although you can also use other flocculants.

How long does this last in a big dam ?

That's a bit difficult to answer as it comes down to how much inorganic sediment is entering the dam. We would need to know more details about your waterbody to provide an answer. Feel free to contact us at waterqualitysolutions.com.au

What can you do with tanin stained dam water

Hi Ray, unfortunately this is a tough one as it's often the leaf litter getting into the water that produces the tannin look. I'm assuming you have trees hanging over or near the water? I made a video on this: ua-cam.com/video/FufjZIu8DY0/v-deo.html

Is this stuff safe for fish and yabbies?

Yes, as long as it's not grossly overdosed. It's an alum-based product which means there's a risk of sudden pH drop if severely overdosed. It's got a much higher safety margin than standard alum but there's still a risk. If you do some bucket testing before treating to give you a better idea of how much you'll need, then you'll know the ballpark range you should operate in. A bit more than this will be fine but a big overdose should be avoided. We haven't had anyone do any damage to fish or yabbies and we've been using if for over a decade.
