What an interesting video. Now I'll know how to treat a pond when I find my homestead land one day. I have the land picked out just need to buy it. It has a very mucky pond on it. Your property is a wonderful piece of land with so many gorgeous features on it. Wildlife, a pond, creeks, woods and flat land for building and gardening on. God bless you and yours! And prayers for Starla and Sarah as well!
A minor tip would be to solve the algae problem first, wait a couple of days for the oxygen to normalise then add your biological muck breaker. The reason for doing this is to reduce the initial spike in oxygen demand and to avoid diluting the pond (not so much of an issue if you're circulating the water or aerating, mostly a problem with running a hose as shown)
Just a thought, Tractor Supply sells baby ducks. They are really fun to raise and watch grow. They normally don’t fly due to being a little overweight. But they’ll take to that pond quick and draw in lots of wild ducks who then will start raising babies every year there.
Could you explain your water hose airriation set up? I do not have a water system near my pond and every pond airriation system I look into are very expensive. Do you have an affordable idea I could try? Thanks.
Wow this was cool. I was about to suggest a solar fountain but then again Tim knows what he is doing! Great video Tim…the jump in the water was fun! Do you have any experience with raising turkeys?
In addition to chemicals to get in under control, I'm a big fan of aeration stones put them in a septic tank, and it doesn't take long for that water to turn clear. I don't like the fountains because they tend to get clogged and subject to evaporation.
I've looked at fountains, but they are very expensive for a "quality" one. I know it's supposed to be safe but I'm not sure I would have gotten in the water lol
An air stone would help you out alot but you have to be very careful only start with 10 mins and add 10 mins a day till you get to the point you can run it 24/7
I wonder what the mark up is on pond products. I recently added a gallon of bacteria enzymes. Cost was 50 bucks and of course they say to treat 3 times. Being on Social security it's something I just can't afford to do. So will just let nature do its thing. I'm just glad I don't have a algae problem.
Years ago we had an old lagoon. It looked like it was totally full of weeds. So i rented a backhoe and when i went to dig in the middle. The entire top of the lagoon came to me. I thought the backhoe was rolling into the lagoon. I almost jumped off. It was a 4 foot thick mat of weeds. Scared me bad. I thought im not sure i want to survive that...
You definitely need a bigger fountain...one should be enough if IT is big enought to handle the volume of the pond.....I mean ...you have a hose spraying, a couple of mallard duck pumps and a mini pump going and it will take you a LONG time to get that pond water CLEAN.....,,,Spend a little more MONEY and BUY a BIGGER Fountain pump that can handle that ponds volume....keep the fountain going and Keep your Pond clean and clear.....
I only said that 'cause in my experience (30 years with natural in-ground ponds) where you have a natural balance of plants, animals, and water, you will not experience long, repetitive periods of 'algal bloom'. Quite likely you will get a bit in the late winter/early spring but once the established pond plants start re-growth for the coming warmer months that algae will be out-competed and die away quite quickly, almost overnight. You should never have to use a manufactured product in a natural pond...any pond for that matter.@@RidgeLife
The stuff on the bottom HAS to break down. What are you actually doing when you prevent that from happening? What is your “muck” reducer actually doing to your ecosystem? Same with poisoning the algae . There is no magic. You need to aerate. You need to reduce nutrients entering your pond if possible. You need to fix the ecosystem- plants absorb nutrients, but they must also then be harvested in order to remove those nutrients from the pond - otherwise the plant will release them again as it dies off. Make compost with those plants and grow plants outside the pond to help reduce nutrients entered the pond. It is ok to do this as an intervention. But it is not a solution
This is a fallacy. Those leaves turn to silt. That chemical isn’t getting rid of it. To clean you need to drain and clean it out. He seems like a nice guy but I don’t know what he’s trying to do here
@@RidgeLife if you’re reading directions off of a battle that miraculously removes pond silt then you have no business spreading this information. It’s only entertainment not reality. Didn't know they had solar fountain pumps. That's awesome!
It was a little weak. Maybe for a koi pond...
Looks Beautiful Tim love the 💕 Solar water-fountain
Thx! The fountain was a little small and weak for the pond but fun!
Wow that stuff works great 👍.... That time lapse was awesome! 👊👏👏👏
Thanks Ann!
Time lapse was kool. Could really see it working
I had fun for sure.
Really helpful video, I'm trying to restore an old pond right now and have been battling with the sludge. this was super useful
Thanks and good luck!
Great job! The bottom off of your shoe makes a perfect time for a Gorilla Glue ad! That fountain would work great in my Bird Bath
Ha! True!
Awesome video Tim. Thank you for sharing and a great week.
My pleasure!
Hey hey! You got your pond looking much better! Thanks for sharing the process, I never knew about this issue! Have a great week ahead! -Marshall 🎸
Thanks!
That stuff worked amazing... totally enjoyed the time lapse... 👍. Have a wonderful day and blessings 💞
Thank you! You too!
Your pound looks amazing 😊 and I do love the solar water fountain. Nice little touch. Great video!! Thank you for sharing with us. 😁
Thanks for watching! Hope to see y’all again soon!
Thanks Tim, Have a blessed week 🙋♀️
You too!
When I worked at the Nursery that’s exactly what we would use to clean up the store ponds. Great product Yo…
Thumbs up buddy 👍 lol 😆
Thx Fred!
That worked so fast Tim thx for the info 💕💕
Great video man, I have the same project I need to do in the next couple of weeks!
Good luck!
Great video! Informational, educational, entertaining what more could you ask for
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great excuse to go swimming...haha. Pond looking good brother.
You caught me!
Hello from Minnesota. You going to add any color dye to it?
Oooh, how I long for a real pond! Even a filthy one. I’ll take it, hahaha! Thanks for these tips, Tim✌🏼
For sure and good luck!
Thanks for the tip I would definitely be buying some of that stuff for my pond
Worked great!
Great video Tim
Thank you Cyndi
That totally fixed it up. Looks Awesome
Thx!
Aeration would do the same thing, but without chemicals...... make your pond a habitat instead of a chemical pool, and it'll be beautiful.
I have a hose spraying in the pond from up high all summer. Does any other aeration cost less but just as effective as the chemicals?
Grab some solar aerators. I use them in my pond and they work great. Adding some plants will greatly help the pond as well.

Great video!!! Thank you!!! I only have access to 3/4 of the perimeter of my pond. Any suggestions?
I think it will still circulate. Good luck!

My pond issue is colloidal clay. Neighbor over grazes his pasture and the dirt washes into the pond.
Ouch!

Definitely would look into a bigger aeration system. Size it for the pond size.
Absolutely
Great video, exactly what I needed thank you

1:03 Love your highly technical term...lol
Haha! Thx
What’s that aerator fountain in there and would you reccomend it?
Not really. Too small. I just use a hose for now.
Good work
Thx!
How about some sterile carp to help keep the algae and duck weed growth in check??
Yes! Got a couple just added to replace the ones I had that died.
Could you explain your water hose airriation set up? I do not have a water system near my pond and every pond airriation system I look into are very expensive. Do you have an affordable idea I could try? Thanks.
I just ran a long hose with nozzle and keep it running when hot and sunny.

HA!
Been scared to use this stuff on my pond... ill check back in with you in a few months

Hi
Add a solar aerator and plant more oxygenating water plants.
That will help a lot.
Great tips!

I call the muck sludge.
Yup I feel ya.
Bottom deposits can be removed with a dirty water pump.
Great idea.
Nasty. . How often have you had too do this?
First time since I’ve been there.

These chemicals aid in muck breakdown process. Work very well to help get back to a natural balance which can then be maintained as you said.
Is this harmful to livestock?
Once it dissipates no. But would wait to expose them.
wrong papa algae never goes away only by removing it with rack
Hmm. Mine’s good now. Thx.
rotting vegetation and lawn fertilizer causes this.
Yes, lots of dead leaves over time.
Plastic lawn rake.
In the middle of a large pond?
