Thanks to you, my pond is crystal clean and sparkling. Before it was green and full of green muck. I made a bio filter from your instruction last spring. I have very happy fish now.
Aluminum sulphate is a good cheap flocculant available at most farm/ag suppliers. But the powder has to be well mixed within the water column. Thanks again for giving good simple advice.
Sorry, I was going to amend the comment. Like many flocculants it is safe in the correct dosage, but also so long as the alkalinity is high enough to buffer the pH change. Government bodies use it sometimes for the treatment of cloudy rivers. I would be hesitant to use it in a small pond with lots of fish (over the counter products are probably a better option).
@@Ozponds A good test to see if the cloudy suspension is a chemical issue keeping the clay suspended. Use a jam jar of test water and add a teaspoon of baking soda. Acts in a similar fashion as the aluminum sulphate.
My local farm supplies man told me that aluminum sulphate kills all water dwelling creatures -- water beetles, yabbies, fish, etc, so I decided not to use it.
Thanks so much... My little pond is much better now I've cut down food. I love my snails as much as I love my fish. 😂 Also my frogletts and toadlets 😅 Got a bit of stringy stuff but I just pull a bit out every now and then. It only accumulates around one pot. I took most of my plants out of the pots and put them in bare roots. All doing well. It's only small. I have no pump, a few solar fountains, four. Through winter they don't work much but all seems really healthy a year onward. I did have to renew the liner last winter due to a heron piercing the liner. Got a better one and made the pond a little larger. I only have a tiny space but I love my pond. Thanks for all your shares 😊
What is the erect grass @ 1:45 growing in gravel bog inside the liner? We washed our gravel in the trailer when we got it home; then watered over the gravel in the basin as we part filled the pond; then pumped the water out to our garden; then filled the pond. Some temporary murkiness appears when we need to walk in and service the pond.
My new pond is green with envy 😄 It was very hot earlier this summer and now we have had weeks of rain, I stopped putting the Nualgi in it because I was afraid it would wash out with all the rain we've had. My koi seem happy though, and the ph is ok.
I've got a 6 month old pond. Currently I'm not running the filter pump as it is clean by itself. I have 50 silver perch in there and none dead. For some reason I have had no algae. No plant growth. There is like a brown fur type thing growing on the submerged rock surfaces. But no growth.... maybe its just the Victorian cold weather and spring may change that. Thanks Kev for all your work.
Good Day, love all your videos, they've helped me tremendously , i bould a pond on my farm and added a bog filter and water fall, the water is very brown and full of clay, would you suggest using pool flocculant , is it the same?, i have on hand and wondering?, cheers from Canada
@@Ozponds morning, so I got me some lake and pond flock, I added it in, the bottle says to heavily aerating for 24 hrs, it’s been that now and it looks the same?, so I need to stop all pumps and aerators so it can settle?, thanks for your help
I find it works better with circulation. There should be directions in the bottle the stuff I use can be reapplied after 3 days if there’s no improvement.
Interesting, the bottle says to run circulation and air pumps for 24 hrs and nothing eles, so i called the company and they said after 24hrs to shut down everything and let the flock work then run to filter it our, so ill let you know in a few days, cheers @@Ozponds
All of the soil floated out of a plant container I put in my tank pond. Partially due to laziness but also curiosity, I just left it do it's thing. 3 weeks and it is perfectly clear. A proper lazy man's solution!
Hi Kev I want to know if the size of the gravel is important because I want to put in 9.5mm gravel but in my area right now the only available size is 19mm stones. Does that matter?
@@Ozponds sorry Kev I asked the wrong question. I mean stones for the bog filter. I want to know if the size is important as I wished to get 9.5mm stones but I might only source 19mm. Does it matter?also I have built a concrete pond, how do I treat it for eleminating cement particles leaching into the water? Paint?
19mm is probably better for the bog, larger gaps between the rocks, less chance of getting clogged. I’m not sure about cement it’s not something I’ve ever used in my ponds.

Wonderful 👍
Where did you buy the product to clean the pond/ lake?
Kev you are truly the pond king. Finishing up my "dream pond" at the moment and couldn't have done it without you. Many thanks 😊
Everyone needs a dream pond. I’m happy I helped in some way 😊👍
This has been on my mind for a month now.

You were smart 👍. That grass is dwarf sweet flag.
Nice product thanks.

It’ll come good. New ponds like to go green with envy 😉. The fish don’t mind green water at all.
Thanks Kev.👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks. How do you deal with mosquitoes in your mud pond where there is not much surface agitation?

The brown fur is diatom growth this is good stuff 👍 It’s consuming the nutrients.
Rams head snails. Always the first creature to add to your pond

I’m not 100% sure if the pool stuff is fish safe.
new construction, no fish planned till spring :)

😂😂 my surviving Koi grew even!
Very water conscious but do you collect Rainwater?
Not enough. I need to get more tanks.
@@Ozponds I'd like a couple more ibc tanks, a neighbour has a stack of 6 for his vegetable garden made me jealous when my tank was empty last summer

Not really. I’ve used a few different sizes. Big pebble or small pebble for the bottom of a pond?
