- I’ve showed you guys how to paint your interior trim pieces before, but now this I’ll show you how to do it in a less permanent manner. Change the colour, and if you don’t like it, just peel it off.

Hey, wrapper here. just wanted to let you know (this will get lost in comments) around 6 minutes in, you say to heat up the material before applying it. this is 100% wrong. 3m 1080 is a pressure sensitive material, it's pressure that causes the glue to stick. think of it this way: if you notice in the back, the glue has tiny grooves in it. this creates little air ways that trapped air can move through, also, there is less surface contact, so you can pull it up easier. apply the material laying it flat, and applying it with your hand, THEN use a squeegee and lock it into place, THEN use the heat to get the contour, THEN post application heat it, this causes the material to lose it's "memory" and avoids it (in a proper application) from lifting.
if you apply heat before, the glue will get so hot as soon as you apply it, the little airways will close causing the possibility of more bubbles. Nobody will ever read this. banana hammock.
lol i read it
Exactly what I was thinking.
good info
I read banana hammock!
Maral Verma yup!!! I stopped watching it, kid has no clue 😆
I'm not wrapping anything, I came across your video by accident and let it play. I just want to say how great of a job you did with your instructions and explanations. Very well done!!
Why didnt you just remove the trim to wrap it ??
Alan Cooper I was cringing the whole time lol
Alan Cooper that's what I was thinking!
same question
Alan Cooper......maybe customer paid him to NOT do so??
Video on how to wrap interior pieces and you only show the easiest part? Was really hoping to see the interior dash wrapped as that would show more challenges
How about stick it straight on cold and heat afterwards to conform to the edge curves? I did my whole car bonnet easily this way, not one wrinkle and only a few tiny bubbles. I find heating for flat surface laying makes it really susceptible to wrinkles and bubbles and stretching the pattern, but is essential for tackling curves once you have got the flat parts down and only have curves to go
We are never happy with what we have. That car interior is so beautiful
The real wood trim is a classic.
Nice. I would of liked to of seen the center console wrapped though
+Froztinc word
+dannesito304 +Froztinc I have some pictures on my Instagram Account, milmast, regarding the before and after shots of the center console :)
now we know where you are!! thanks to Tim Hortons Cup! lol.....great vids by the way. cheers from montreal
Looks great ...Why all the thumbs downs ?
Thanks for the video ... It is useful. can you show us how did you do the corner (where two edges meet) .. I think that would be a little bit tricky
A great video what type of the rap is best and I like color brings happiness thanks beautifully done
You're well spoken , which is great
Wrapping all the nice bits...
Best vid, thanks for your time. Where’s the link to the 3M wrap please?
tnx man, this vídeo helped me a lot. Watching you from Brasil
+GabrielAguiar No problem buddy!! :) Glad you found it helpful
That Buick Rendezvous though. I have one and I'm going to try to do this but will probably fail very badly.
+james johnson Give it a try :)
would it be alright if I take my car trim out and apply it on from there just to get it perfect?
Yeah for sure you can :)
milanmas
Future Chris fix. Nice vid pal 👍🏽
One thing I would have done with the trim pieces, I would had remove them and wrap all the way to the back instead of just the edges.
I hope the owner didn't actually pay for this... so wrong in so many ways. Not sure why you decided to make a youtube video about wrapping when you yourself should go watch some youtube videos on wrapping. I'm not trying to hate; just bothers me because you're teaching others your bad/incorrect methods. At the time of this comment, 350k viewers received horrible advice on wrapping. "...You wanna warm up the entire piece of wrap before you lay it down" -- wtf? Only use heat when it's an absolute must. Most panels can be wrapped just by lightly stretching the material in such a way that it makes it conform to the shape. Heat is used for stuff like corners, angled edges, moderately curved surfaces... Also a good idea to apply some hit once the material has been fully installed to promote better adhesion and to show/detect any hidden air bubbles.
Anyways, watch someone like @CKWraps if you want to know how to actually wrap..
not removing trims when you should... cutting the vinyl wrongly making the brushed aluminum go from top to bottom instead of going from side to side, heating the vinyl when its not needed oh boy i could go on and on with whats wrong in this video
You make it look easy but if my panel is covered in fabric should I take the panel off to clean and apply the wrap?
Jay Rummage duh
Just don't bother doing it yourself.
You go Boyyeeeee
working on 82 mercedes sd. can i use wrap to replace leather areas around winds. will it stick to metal? or is this plastics overlay only? your damn good!
Heating up your vinyl before applying is a big no-no. Heat is your last resort. If you are using material with an air release liner, do not use heat unless you mess up and you need to trigger the vinyls memory. I do this for living, other than that, video is pretty decent, but please no heat
Made that look so hard, lol
this guy is SO BAD AT WRAPPING LOL. He does not know nothing what so ever. Do not listen to him. Also, he say that you HAVE to heat the material, no you dont. You only heat the material when needed. In that situation he did not need to heat the material.
I agree with the heat comment but you'd be taken more seriously if your grammar wasn't atrocious. "does not know nothing", literally translates to "knows everything".
I'll be the first one to admit that I do not know nothing.
It seems like it would be tough to wrap the top of a shift knob! Could you make a vid on that??
+JD Ekstrak What type of shift knob do you mean? My style, it would be nearly impossible to wrap it.
You do not use heat before applying wrap this will stretch the wrap too much therefore making it prone to shrinkage, bubbling and peeling
I cannot decide wether to get some clean looking, brushed alu wrap (gray or black) or go for orange 3D carbon fiber. I have a fully black leather/plastic interior. Gonna wrap trim pieces because they have some ugly "nail" damage on them.
Give me your opinion :)
I'd go with the black brushed 👍
Great video helped alot thanks!
This was easy, what about the rest, i wanna see curves, round stuff?
Anyone know if the 3M 1080 is thin enough to work around curves? I bought Vvivid gloss carbon vinyl and it's too thick to use on curves for interior trim. It doesn't stick or curve when heated. Instead it straightens back out. It's really annoying to work with.
also install a short shifter in your car it works way faster then the normal one
+sarvagya angre I've been looking at one for awhile now!! Might pull the trigger on it.
Dude said a "star screwdriver" 😹
Tito Montana whats funny with that?
Oskar Zander Oskar..Tito is saying our man here calls a Phillips screwdriver a “star screwdriver” which is quite funny
Scott Saroyan its not funny
Yes! Yes it is!
Wait he was using a phillips? I thought when he said "star" he just didn't know what a torx was...if so that's understandable it's not common. If it was a phillips head...then yes, it is very funny. Walk into any shop and say "pass me the star screwdriver" and everyone will look at you like you are an out of place noob and will usually ask "are you sure you know what you are doing?"
A question: If I want to wrap my wood interior on my 2000 bmw e38, but it has some cracks on the trim, would it show through the wrap?
duude. I just did this to my 8th gen accord. I wrapped it with a carbon wrap, and it looks so good. but I didn't do the trim pieces though. I did the entire center console, and I'm about to do the dashboard soon. I'm gonna do the center piece, around all of the buttons and screen.
+Kevin Selagea Good job man!! Got any pics?
+milanmastracci Thanks man! I do have pics. I can email them to you if you would like, and I'm gonna put them on my Instagram soon. It's selageakevin.
Yeah that'd be sweet!! Send them to my milanmastracci@gmail.com account and i'll tag you on instagram too :)
+milanmastracci Sweet. I'll send them asap. Thanks man :)
Hey. Let me know if you got them or not.
Wouldn't it have been easier to just remove the trim panel from the door and wrap it? LOL
I agree but i guess he didnt want to remove the door panel or something. The result wasnt nice at all, you can see the extra vinyl around the edges.
I just bought an airbag and the mazda emblem is jacked up....think I could fill with bondo and then wrap? Or would it be way to small/complicated to wrap?
+BoogieDownProduction No you could wrap it for sure :)
Next time make sure that the pattern of the aluminum it's sideways it will look much better
THANK YOU , can't believe nobody caught that
Does anyone know where can I get the proper 3M wrap ? I would greatly appreciate a direct like to it. Thanks! ;D
very well done!
+preston ikard Thanks :)
whats a "star screwdriver" ive never heard of that. been working with cars for more than 40 years. what kind of specialty store do i need to buy that at?
Lol, i think he means a Torx screwdriver.
bro that's no way to treat a timmies cup using it as a leverage
+Tarek Taher I felt horrible doing it lol I'll make sure to take better care of the next one I get :D
Hum... But why you heat up for flat areas? For that you can use the natural elasticity of material. Like that you get problems with shrink in hot days.
I have a tan nylon interior any ideas for wrap?
Hello, so my question is if I use a simple cheap wrap will it cause any damage or inconvenience if I decide to remove it later on? Amazing video though
If you use the wrap made by 3m it won't harm your paint or trim and it won't leave any residue.
The residue is like tint? Glue crud left behind?
Why are you working in the dark, and why did you not remove the trim before wrapping?
How do u remove the trim on air vents the round ones ? I have a rave 4 .
What if I want to completely change the colour of my interior
Could have laid the door trim first without heat and you wouldn't have trapped a crease.
You can definitely wrap the steering wheel
i want to wrap some interior pieces on my car (3 series BMW E90) because some pieces had a rubbery coat on top of the plastic, and that rubber is sticky and it came off in some places, it's really ugly. i tried alcohol and it won't come off, do you know hao to take that stuff off? or i should just sand it off..? Thanks!
+Bogdan Anghel Sanding it will remove it for sure, but I feel like a solvent should be able to remove it. Get a microfibre towel and put some paint thinner on it, and rub it over the panel to see if the rubbery coating comes off. If it doesn't, proceed to use sand paper :)
+milanmastracci thanks. i will buy some paint thinner and give it a try.
Perfect. Let me know how it all goes :)
Where's the brushed aluminium that's on the picture??
Thanks
how long would a vinyl wrap typically last?
You had the dash apart, why not work on that instead.
That's not brushed ally as stated in the title
Wouldn't you remove the trim to wrap it properly?
hey, i have a problem, i live in a building and i dont have a power source to use a gun heater or such a thing! what is the solution?
I would just remove whatever pieces u can and do it in the building. Thats what im doing in a couple days.
What kind of body filler did you use in the spot that was rough ?
+arshia mahdvar Bondo Body Filler.
www.amazon.com/Bondo-261-Lightweight-Filler-Pint/dp/B0007ZG9TO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452864912&sr=8-1&keywords=bondo
Godsend. Thank u bro. 👍
You don't need to preheat on a flat panel all you need is post Heat
he said with heat its maliable. thats for metal. you mean plyable.
Not just for metal.
nice job , does anybody know for how long it will last ???
+Dymi4i As long as you want. The only reason to peel it is if you get tired of it, or if you tear it. It is very durable however.
ok thanks dude !
No problem :)
I think he did ok considering trim was not removed. Good hand at cutting.
Older video I know but... Could you have removed the trip to do this? seems like a lot less hassle.
you should check out kingsmustrise on youtube, he is an awesome youtuber from calgary that does mods and upgardes to his scion frs. his vloging and camera skills are excellent
"Warm it up, peel it back and go again" - :D
I cut my vinyl 3x and it's still too short... what do I do?
Diehard Ch1ef try cutting it again. It might fit if you cut enough times.
why not remove the door trim piece?
Looks black to me, not brushed aluminum
Jerry Peterson looks crap to me!
LMAO. You can tell he wasn't ready for the non flat projects and thats why the devil riding a unicorn stole the SD card out of his invisible camera so he no longer had the footage from the rest of the car.
How long does this usually last? I want to wrap the interior of my Supra but want it to really last a long time. My current interior is fading and cracked in a few places so I would literally be wrapping everything a couple different colors.
If you take the time to do it right, it is permanent.
+milanmastracci what is the best type of vinyl to use? I saw something called 3M 1080, is that any good?
That is the best you can buy. 3M is the company that makes it, and 1080 is the series of vinyl. If you can get that, you will be in good hands :)
+milanmastracci awesome!!! thanks, man!!!
No problem :) Glad I could help!!
Why not pull the trim piece and wrap it off the vehicle?
can I use this for the exterior of my car?
Ya, however when you do you must make sure there are no chips, dents or any rust because otherwise the wrap will not stick and it will quickly fall off.
Good to see that the woodprix has new instructions to save my money and energy to build it.
Uh, that does not look very good. Look at the left side of the trim. You can clearly see the overhang of the wrap crumbled in there. Same with the upper gap between trim and door panel. I hope you didn’t take any money for the work you’ve done.
shouldn’t heat before you lay, 3M and pretty much every wrap material is pressure sensitive. when you agitate the glue with heat before you lay you make the bond weak and it will lift faster over time. you should honestly take this miss information off of youtube
Is there some sort of school I could attend to be better skilled , I also wanted to tint windows, any suggestions ???
+Robert Silvas I don't know if there is, people just pick it up as they go. Have you considered working in a shop to get experience?
+milanmastracci yeah definitely
Yeah I would start off there. You will learn a bunch :)
+milanmastracci where could I get supplies including film, gonna start off on my own car
From the website I included in the description. They have essentially everything you need to get your car wrapped
I wanna do the same with my interior but I am not sure if I am skilled enough not to damage the leather :)
me too
You don't need to heat up 3M 1080 vinyl
+owen allen Makes it adhere better to the peice you're working on
+milanmastracci 3m glue is pressured activated due to controltac system hexis is heat activated you have to post heat it,you lay vinyl cold my friend and heat edges after trim
Oh thats good to know :)
In all seriousness, but how long have you been doing this for exactly?
+Josh Canby Working on cars in general?
Wrapping cars lol
Oh.. I've just done little pieces here and there, along with a coupe roofs for cars. I haven't done an entire vehicle yet
Wrap first then heat it bro your doing it backwards.
Would've looked better if the grain ran lengthwise
Is’t better if i but masking tape
how is the quality of the wrap I bought one wrap from eBay and it was the worst wrap ever
You have to make sure you're getting 3M wrap. The 3M 1080 series is the good stuff, and a lot of people on eBay might imitate it.
+milanmastracci thank you for your r reply what about the webside you provided us are those good ones
5
mo4everable
Look out for brands like 3M, Avery, Oracal or Vivvid
Is that Aluminium or Aluuuuminum?
those wrinkles on the left side just build up the peace and wrap it then and it would look perfect
Cut excess then tuck.
i thought the centre console was what the bit between the two front seats that you put your wallet and shit in?
It's a wonder we can find anything: Americans have a hood and a trunk in their cars. Aussie's have a bonnets and a boot.
tim hortons coffee cup
Why not take the part off first???
steering wheel cover. no harm
Where are u located
Just made wrapping a flat trim piece harder than its suppose to be. You don't heat a flat surface just lay the vinyl down😒
Remove the panels then wrap them.
Oh my god. Dude, the trim snaps out with a plastic pry tool to do it properly. Have you ever wrapped anything before? Me thinks not!
Did you just call a phillips screw driver a star? lol
That's not brushed aluminum
