CORRECTION: the chameleon skyline didn’t sell out in an hour, it was 18 minutes. Some how I thought it was an hour because I was at work trying to secure a review copy and I lost track of time lol. It was a very stressful 8 minutes of waiting and securing it.
RLC overdrive is great. I finally get cars from RLC instead of having to buy from a scalper. I am an original member of RLC, well before some of these scalpers were born. I believe it’s collectors first. !!! Resellers second. My opinion

The only ones feel hurting are those who are collecting for $$$ value or resellers. I think Overdrive should automatically reserves at least 2 units per releases
Not true. Collectors are hurt as well. Since many RLC are actually depreciating in price. I personally don't mind if they don't gain value. But I do mind if they depreciate. Which some are beginning to do. Mattel has overplayed their hand. They have raised prices and production at the same time. That is NOT how limited collectables work. Good riddance RLC imo.
Man I like your videos. Trust me I have 2 memberships, standard ones not overdrive, I couldn't get the Cobra, nor the Skyline, nor the Optimus Prime in neither of my memberships, take a look on resale value Optimus is now 200 and rising, many people with standard membership couldn't get it. Think that overdrive got you the ones that are still increasing their value. Regarding quality issues I disagree, despite some Mclaren issues is the only diecast ever in 1:64 that open the doors, I think RLC is finally innovating, they always released Camaros, Mustangs, year by year the same castings, just changing the colors and maybe the tires over and over again.... Regards
I personally like the rarity. It’s exhilarating to hunt. But at the same time what over drive did was create more stock, it’s hard to keep track of quality of each car that’s produced. So because they’re making over 40k of each casting, quality is gonna go down. I don’t want that. I do like that they are making more but I don’t like that it’s costing Mattel their reputation with quality. I don’t think it’s even possible to make sure each car has the exact same quality. So don’t get it twisted, I’m happy that overdrive is making it possible for everyone to enjoy, I just don’t like that the quality is taking a dive.
you missed the whole point of the video. It’s not a complaint on RLC rarity. Personally I like collecting rare stuff but that’s beside the point. The point is, quality is going down. I would rather have quality than rarity, and you can’t have quantity and quality. You just can’t. I love every car they released, even the McLaren but it could be better. We are paying $25-45 for these cars and they don’t come out with good quality, I’m a consumer and I have a right to complain. So don’t comment shit like this because you’re complaining too.
Too many people don't collect these cars because they like the car, they buy them because of their scalper re-sell value. This has ruined the hobby. The fact that MATTEL limits the supply shows they are catering to the scalpers.
I've seen them sell out in less than ten minutes. The skyline sold out in about that same amount of time, I couldn't get my payment to process due to "technical difficulties" and told me to try again in a couple minutes,I tried 12 times before it said it was sold out by 9:14 am. Also it was supposed to have a limit on what you could buy and for some reason there were people on eBay with over 100 in their possession.
Back in the olden days a 3-5 minute sellout was common. 18 minutes is a long time for something to stick around. They made 35k or more of those skylines.
I wish @youtube would allow pictures in the comments section to show you the 💩 quality paint job on my 1995 honda integra type r i just received. My goodness, its like i ordered a junked car rather than a collectible toy.
I would have purchased an Overdrive membership but they sold out. I've been able to get all my personal selections when they are released. The pink R34 really did me in though. I lost that one. It left my hopes for getting an RLC at retail very low. I'm hoping for 2 720's in the morning. My first time getting RLC duplicates. 🙏🙏🍀🍀🤞🤞
Nice video! Loved the sections! I think the reason why overdrive would probably bother folks would be false advertising. It was probably advertised as "you can cut ahead of the competition and be sure of getting a car" versus what it should have actually been "now you dont have to be in front of your phone or PC ordering it at 9 AM Pacific. We will do it to you for 100 bucks" I remember back in 2016 or 2017, series 14, when we had a subscription free of cost. That was more like "If you opt in, you will definitely get a model" there was no selective opt out so there is a chance you'd end up with a car like the drag bus or blown delivery. But this time they flooded the market with models but charged you 100 bucks with an option to opt out if you didnt need something.. i guess it all boils down to just pros and cons but it hurts when one loses money :D I hear you!
To all of the non-overdrive members, you're welcome! But seriously it does suck that most cars are available for so long afterwards bringing their rarity down. But in the end, I am at peace with my overdrive subscription. The fact that I am currently rolling my Skyline around on my desk along with other numerous cars gained through it, makes it awesome. No more stressful launch windows.
I think it's a great thing, but I dont really care what the cars worth. I just want cool cars for my collection, the only thing about value I do care about is that the cars be worth what they cost to buy first hand new. Basically that they hold there value of there original price atleast, and then the quality of the cars be up to par with what they cost.
And actually the chameleon skyline did not sell out in a hour it sold out in 17 minutes.I was lucky enough to get two of them.I can’t wait till the blue Supra comes out in the fall
RLC overdrive is only for US, if it was available here I would get it as the drops are always when I’m on the way home from work 1700. But Mattel don’t even send to the country I’m in as of early this year, I think they now deliver to around 20 countries. Most use a delivery hub, I get mine sent to the in-laws in France. But overall RLC has made huge changes this year, it’s not just overdrive. There are a lot of “international” collectors that couldn’t be bothered buying RLC now as they can’t delivered directly to them. So I think you are seeing Mattel producing larger numbers whilst selling to a smaller pool of collectors by excluding countries they previously shipped to.
The pagani sold out 2 and a half months after release. Wish they would’ve bumped the number to buy per account up And those had no qc issues to my knowledge
Scalpers / re-sellers have ruined this hobby. MATTEL caters to the scalpers, but won't even allow you to say the word "scalper" on their forums. Because they know how bad the problem is. Scalpers only care about the re-sell value. They don't collect these cars. The only way to combat this problem, is to sell everything direct on the website, and have no limits. Then there would be no "re-sell value". A $6 car would be a $6 car. If you want it, buy it. If not, don't buy it. Store exclusives are the worst. In most areas, you will never see any Boulevard cars at Walmart. They are scalped harder than the super treasure hunts. And then MATTEL went and put chases in the car culture cases, just to spaz-out the scalpers even more. MATTEL encourages scalpers, many of whom are the store employees who are buying this stuff straight off the trucks. Screw Mattel.
Overdrive was insurance for Hot Wheels to produce way more cars than usual and with poor quality on many. This is my last year for Hot Wheels RLC. I might keep the normal rlc membership but not overdrive again.
@@MattStrike I think I make a video on why I’m sticking with hotwheels, titled: Hot wheels vs the world. where I talk about all of the 3rd party die-cast vehicles and how they are changing the game.
Overdrive is a simple up sale. Make the original promised service unsustainable or inconvenient and then offer the solution at a further cost. All inentional and exploiting the addiction that they've managed to create in thousands of people.
I just started collecting premiums and above 2 months ago. I'm already going away from Hot Wheels and into Mini GT and Inno 64. I feel like Mattel needs to redirect quickly.
Nope. As a collector this is amazing. You are basically supportinf scalpers and the rarity the car comes with. Purchase the cars u love. Thats the whole point of hotwheels..not supporting the leaches

This doesn't exactly match what's really happening. Rlc's are being sold to overdrive members first. Then everyone else. And now they sell out in mins or maybe hours. I don't know anyone with overdrive. But none of me or my friends haven't gotten a single RLC ever again. Every time we try. It says sold out in 45 mins like the r34
