I’ve been doing a huge shampoo and conditioner bar experiment over the last several months, and here are my top picks: Superzero, Earthling Co, Peach Not Plastic Volumizing, and Conscia. I didn’t want to like Conscia because it’s so pricey, but I snagged some of their trial sizes during their holiday sale and fell in love. Sigh. 😂 I also had concerns with an ingredient in one of their formulas, and they emailed me back with a detailed explanation as to the extremely low usage percentage. Even so, they had already decided to reformulate, and offered to send me another formula in the meantime. So I was impressed with their transparency, commitment to improving, and great customer service.

I love the Earthling Community shampoo bars and conditioner. I tried kitsch, I didn’t like the conditioner, made my hair feel greasy. I also tried No waste Cartel, I liked it a lot, it was 2 nd to the Earthling to which I have a subscription. The lather is luxurious, I do get squeaky clean, but I like it, and it has enhanced my curls, without drying. The conditioner is nice too, rinses out easily. All scents are mild. The cost is comparable.

I’m using Humby organic shampoo bars. I’ve used purple rain and at moment using blueberry fields. I’m happy with this brand so far.

Loving Superzero for over a year now! On your recommendation, tried Evolve, but the nominal difference just doesn’t justify all the plastic. But if Evolve were to use aluminum bottle. . .

Yes!! Nice. I know, I wish they could get rid of the plastic too

I'm currently using ethique, frizz wrangler. Its easy to use and rinsed well. The conditioner is a little heavy. I also enjoy chagrin valley and spinster sisters.. The bars last for awhile. Not sure how many uses though. I have fine wavy hair.

I’m not sure if you’ve tried it, but I’ve been liking the peach shampoo bar for my somewhat thick hair and dry scalp. the scent is also nice and subtle👍

I still like the Odacite bar but am also trying a shampoo bar from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. So far so good. Oh, and now that I think about it the Kitsch shampoo bar runs out fast!

Thanks for sharing! Oh I haven’t seen the Chagrin soap, but also did see Kitsch has a new bar shape out. Doesn’t look like it will work as smoothly but I could be completely wrong there!

I have been using the Kitsch rice protein bar. The shape is different than the one you showed. I liked it jnitially but over time my scalp started getting flaky and also, the bar stopped suddsing up. Not sure why. But I did see a difference in hair growth and less hair fall out.

      @BrittWitkin  8 місяців тому

yep, they redesigned the bar since I purchased last! 💜 interesting- I've heard with bars that some sort of clarifying step is a must. It's not my advice, but it has been suggested, so that could help with scalp build up.

I’ve been using Kitsch since mid of November 2023,the same shampoo bar and conditioner and I still have enough shampoo for another month and conditioner looks like won’t run out for another year 😅 I don’t understand how people use it if they run out their conditioner bar this soon?

Old trick for clarifying hair is soaking your scalp and hair in a water, apple cider vinegar and baking soda mushy paste. I haven’t tried bar soap shampoo because no one I know has had a long term good result. So discouraging. And what is up with the prices?? Great big eye roll with the prices. Thank you for all your efforts. Special hello to beautiful Blue! 💐

Try Ethique! They are soap free and ph balanced so they don't leave any build up on the hair. I use their Volumizing one and then every few washes I use their Clarifying bar to reset my hair.

Ethique is great! I have thick hair but have a super oily scalp. I go between their Sweet n Spicy for volume and regular washing, and then their St. Clemens for clarifying every few washes. It works great! Never have or want to try a conditioner bar, too afraid of a waxy build up. I just use a deep conditioner every wash as my ends are super tangly and dry.

I just stumbled upon your site as I was looking at REI’s hibar stuff. Two things:
I feel like I need a primer on how to actually operate the bars successfully. Long ago I used a shampoo bar from lush and it just never dried out and turned to mush. Operator error I’m sure but how do you work these bars?
Have you tested, or do you know of, a biodegradable option for camping? Safe for rivers or seas? I’m camping and want to safely shower outside. Are bars a good option I wondering?
    Thank you for any advice.

    • @BrittWitkin

Ohhhh I haven’t checked on the camping front, I’m the worst camper ever so prob not your best advisor on that. But ask the brand for sure, they’re super responsive on social! Also, I usually keep bars outside of the shower if there’s space or in a closed container with slats on the bottom a la Ethique- seems to keep the melting at bay. 💜 Paint your hair with them. If that doesn’t work, suds between your hands and work into absolutely saturated hair. If it’s not wet enough, it’s a struggle.

I found this because I was looking up the Kitsch rice and water bar. I've used a local shampoo bar for a long time, but I don't like the results, so I tried the kitsch bar. I'm totally let down. I'm also in contact with their customer service because the bar is cracking and full of a gross white residue. I keep it out of the shower, too, on a soap dish with a soap saver. I definitely won't buy it again. And, my hair is your length too. The bar definitely isn't 100 washes.
