Love your series, Christine! One thing… a bright room in front of a bright window doesn't work when you have darker skin. Most cameras have been tuned for lighter skin and exaggerate the shadows. The solution for brown/black folks like me has been to have a darker background and focus the lighting on the face. Then the camera sets the balance correctly. ✌🏾 #zoomingwhileblack

I really like the "three feet away" tip, but one thing i struggle the most is related to my audio. Its hard for my laptop's microphone to capture the audio that far. Is there any solution other than headphone? Thanks, and such an informative video!

Hi Ekaterina, thanks for stopping by! The struggle is real for sure. I'm sure others have tips but personally, I carve out meetings just for me on my calendar (I timebox work I really need to prioritize for the day) and turn off notifications (the "do not disturb" feature on Macs is a lifesaver!), letting people know I'm temporarily off the grid if necessary. Love to hear what has worked for others. But I feel you. Hang in there! - Christine
The best thing you can use to deal with the video call is just to turn the camera off People just don't want to admit that 90% of their video meeting time nobody wants to stare at their faces or to pose in front of others

I struggled so much with turning videos on an I tend to look down or face a bit on the side when I am talking on video and trying hard to think at the same time. . I then started overthinking if I have eye contact issues. I know I am a great listener and I speak passionately but I could never get the eye contact right. Am I just too self concious?
Hi Jessa - Thanks for stopping by and being open (the struggle IS real!). I totally agree that video calls can get stressful since we're all focused on each other in little boxes. I found that turning off my self-view helped a lot with the self conscious part (AKA I wasn't distracted by my own mirror image every millisecond). Wondering if that might help a bit for you. Your colleagues are lucky to have you as a great listener and passionate contributor to meetings! If eye contact is tough, someone once gave me the advice to try focusing on people's mouths when they're speaking. It sounds bizarre but it's actually helpful to have a focal point; you'll be tuned into what they're saying, and it'll look like you're giving your full attention without the awkwardness of eye contact. They'll never be the wiser. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes! I'll be rooting for you -Christine
