Great video! I'm currently traveling in Asia and I'm considering swinging by Istanbul on my way back home. I've wanted to go for such a long time. Great info here. Big fan. Keep up the great work!
That is a great video Robin. It was one of the first in Turkey and inspired to create my own channel. I make POV Street Photo videos too! Greetings from Turkey :)
Fantastic video, Robin! Loved the presentation and the way you walked us through the city while also giving hints and talking about your process. Really informative and inspirational on what to look out for and how to see a place. Great work as always!
Yeah, everything is going well. I've been doing some photo walks and will start posting new videos soon :) excited about it! I feel like I'm making good progress lately; my "style" is becoming more defined. What about you? Are you in Germany right now? How are things?
Great video! Just a note: both books have either foreword or some editing done by Orhan Pamuk - great writer and a Nobel laurate in literature. Ara Güler says he regarded Pamuk as his son.
I went last year and for my first street shooting session I hired a local photographer to show me the way of the land.... I can't recommend it enough. He also said he was available for night sessions which was great cause I was traveling alone and this gave me the confidence I need it to navigate the city at night and tae some epic shots. During the day I felt super save, just don't be like all the tourist and blend in and you should be fine. A most go for sure.....
i went in may in istanbul for 3 days and its super cheap , but i suggest to go deeper into the city no the turisty area to have more intresting photos i suggest you visit it 2-3 times in order to have more personal and intresting photos .
I was there istanbul 2months ago, I really like Turkey's Grand Bazaar which is so impressive place. My photograph was uploaded on instagram @dhpphd instagram.com/p/BxRW1nGg48D/ this is my favorite one. I look forward to upload your vlog in Istabbul. Have a nice day!
Istanbul is one of my favorite big cities I've visited. It's the crossroads for so many people. Yes, some of the neighborhoods around Taksim square are sketchy, but interesting during the day. It is the only place where people didn't seem to warm up to the camera. Seemed to be a lot of refugees from the region packed into buildings that were scheduled to be destroyed. Also saw a guy in another area of town near what seemed to be Russian owned shops that had the gun in his waistband become exposed briefly when he was getting up from his sitting position. 😅 Otherwise, the shopping districts for the locals are super interesting, unlike the shopping for the tourists. Walking is the best way to see the city, but you also have ferries, buses and the metro to get you into the various neighborhoods. Go to the palace overlooking the Bosporus to get best views. My only regret was not getting tickets to any of the major sports supported there.
Istambul is great, despite the political problems, you feel like being in Europe... I´m still astonished by the interior of Sofia...amaaaazing!! A lot of cats and lovely people...I´m lucky I was travelling there many times...a place not to miss ever!
Yeah there were a ton of cats there I remember eating pide with a couple local friends I made there we were sitting outside having sheesha a cat rolls over and sits in my lap and we feed it some meat lol
I was there earlier this month, I have some images on my Insta. I was hoping to buy some cheap Fuji stuff but couldn't find a shop selling Fuji anywhere - Canon and Nikon aplenty but no Fuji. I loved instanbul. I took over 1570 shots, not one bit of trouble or comment. Just a shame that the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia were being refurbished. Hard to get images without getting the scaffolding in as well 😜
Just come home from Istanbul in the last two weeks and was there on a street photography workshop. Was such an amazing city to photograph and interesting seeing the same locations I was walking a matter of days ago 😊

Thank you Luis! Stop by Istanbul, you won't regret it! 👌

Ara Güler has a pretty good documentary called The Eye Of Istanbul. It’s definitely worth a watch!
I think I've seen that one. 👌
Great video! Just a note: both books have either foreword or some editing done by Orhan Pamuk - great writer and a Nobel laurate in literature. Ara Güler says he regarded Pamuk as his son.
Very informative and very diplomatically presented.
Thank you, glad you like it!
Great video, loved all the images in the blog post too 👌
Thank you Hashem! 🙂👌
I really enjoyed shooting street scenes on film in Istanbul. This video reminded me I need to return there, thanks for that! :-D
You are welcome! Yes, go back! ☺️👍
In love with your pictures!
Thank you Pilar!

Haven't shot in Istanbul at night, but I am pretty sure it would be great too.
the_real_sir_robin you have another reason to go... keep shooting and documenting...

had never heard about him but now I have thx to you
He is one of the great masters. ☺️
Ara Güler machte faszinierende Fotos 👌🏻 Mit welchem B&W Film er wohl fotografiert hat?
Hi Bruno, Ara Güler hat Leica M6 21mm Lens mit Kodak Trix-X benutzt.
Gute Frage!
Trix x macht Sinn, haben damals ja sehr viele mit fotografiert. 👍
delimanyak danke :) das mit der Leica wusste ich. Tri-x jedoch nicht 👍🏻
I love shooting in İstanbul not just Street Photography but also Landscape Photography
Also living in İstanbul kinda makes it my only choice :D
I felt more secure in Istanbul than in Berlin
😳
Same for Barcelona!

Ich find es je länger je frustrierender den Touristen auszuweichen. Obwohl dein video gut gemeint ist, lass die Dummy touri Infos lieber weg...

Sounds like you also had a great time there! ☺️👌
For me Alex Webb's book about Istanbul is just one of the best color street photography books you can get, really check it out!
If you are into fuji gear go to Istanbul, cheapest prices in the world.
I adored Istanbul when I went in Dec 2017. Hope to be back. As you said, great city, yummy food, cheap prices and great tattoo artists!
Yes, hope to be back soon too! 🙏
The last Kodak Gold 200 and the first Fuji C200 from the blog post are my favorites.
Love your work. Greetings from Turkey. 🇹🇷
Thank you very much Serkan! 🙂

There is even a really good documentary about the cats of Istanbul. ua-cam.com/video/lKq7UqplcL8/v-deo.html
Yeah, a lot of cats around. In Cairo there where even more. 😎
wow xpan!
Some great information & tips. Thanks also for introducing two names I hadn't heard of before.
good stuff! Yes more reviews of places like that. Have you done any street photography in Mexico City?
Thank you Jose! Unfortunately, I haven't been to Mexico yet. 😔
RIP Ara Güler. The Turkish street legend.
Yes, he is a true legend!

@@abdullahe thanks for that, next time I am there I'll take a look 👍
Like already mentioned, there a couple of shops around that carry Fuji gear. 👍
