- Why TENET is the Most Important Christopher Nolan Film
TENET is complicated. There’s no surprise there, and saying that is an understatement to say the least, but as far as films go in general, this is on a completely other level than anything else that’s come out in recent time. But even that statement is re contextualized when we look and see that there hasn't really been other films that have come out this year - Never has a film had so much pressure on it that it is continually seen as holding an entire business on its back. Nolan truly is as a director who was given the opportunity to make his movie, no strings attached. Creativity is the heart of filmmaking and tenet is the heart of Christopher Nolan and in a culture so devoid of unique ideas, This film is worth supporting, just for the sake of art itself.

Holy crap, this video blew up way more than I thought it would. Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by my channel and checking out the video. Tenet certainly isn't a perfect film, it makes some mistakes and the way its written and edited can seem complicated and overwhelming. But unfortunately I think we've conditioned ourselves to expect to be able to understand something completely on the first viewing, or even the second. This goes for any film, and filmmakers like Nolan put an extraordinary amount of time into detailing each shot and line. If you didn't like it, awesome, if you did, that's awesome too. But what point I think I'm trying to make here is that Tenet to me at least is a reflection of the potential of cinema and the creative outlet it's meant to be, not a popcorn flick you forget two days later. It's okay to think, it's what film was made for. Anyways, love you all. See you next week :)

You have been selected by The Algorithm. I didn't say it in my other comment but the last line of this video is something somebody that was schooled in/by the works of Sorkin (as I was) would say. Reminded me of a scene from the first episode of Studio 60 but is a theme through his works "art is getting its ass kicked" is so much more true today than it was back then, those ratings you highlighted in this video are a fine example of that.

So does that means it's good? But I didn't understand the point of the movie. The plot was very generic: saving the world by stoping the russian bad guy. All the exposition in this movie made it unwatchable for me.

@chubbyurma I personally liked the soundtrack, and I had subtitles so I didn't notice that ou can't really hear them. The soundtrack goes in reverse when there's an inverted object or person in the scene. And the soundtrack for Inception (except for Time) is also a lot of BBBBRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMM
That's what Film Master Adam and Robert Storms said in their review. I would love for someone to respond to their video, but not only are a lot of the things they said subjective, so they can't really be debunked or argued against in a manner that doesn't just fall back to saying "well in my opinion it was this", but that would also give them both attention. And I am so happy that not nearly as many people are caring about Robert Storms anymore. Look at his comment sections, they are so empty now. So many probably unsubscribed after his Parasite video.

The thought of sitting down to write, and work out a storyboard for this movie gives me a migraine. The detail is incredible
Took him 5 years to write! I'd say he took his time well. Any less would have been a nightmare to construct and lie up properly.
I think he wasn't able to figure it out in the end and just said "fuck it," which is why we have this.

This movie took a decade to write, as far as wiki is concerned.
The first two viewings are the most precious because the first one you're amazed at all of it and then the second one you can truly appreciate the details you didn't see before. It's an incredible film and society complains about unoriginal ideas but then proceeds to bash fantastically original ideas such as Nolan's films because they can't take the time to watch it again and appreciate it. If anything, it proves that Nolan is ahead of our time. Tenet is built in the future.
Yeah for example at first i didnt notice that all the words from the sator square were in the movie but then i notices. You have the name of the movie, TENET, sir michael or whatever his name is mentioned a spanish bag making company, AREPO, the main bad guy, SATOR, the name of the pentagon or whatever niel and the protagonist were trying to get into, ROTAS, and the opera scene at the start, OPERA.

First I actually got bored of it. Second I thought it was ok I understand some of it. Third such a good film. Then probably on my eight or night watch. I’ve realised it my favourite film of all time
you have to watch the whole movie once, and then watch it backward, and ONLY then you'll understand it completely.

Indeed, the first viewing you fall asleep or black out drunk and only the second time round you appreciate just how much the movie sucks on so many different levels

The second time watching it, I found myself paying more attention to Neil's actions. His ending felt much more emotional the second time around after knowing their relationship. 10/10 movie. Super ambitious movie and fantastic to see someone doing something so big.
Also never noticed that Nolan said in an interview that Neils name might not be Neil, that sure as hell adds to the “Max”’theory

I'm a bit surprised. It seems like the consensus is that this film doesn't hit people's emotions right away. In my case I literally cried in the cinema the second I realised the bitter-sweet ending. It hit me so hard. No one else was even talking about it. I'm just surprised, that's all.

I also noticed the second time around, the masked character who saves JD Washington's life with the inverted bullet at the opera in the first scene is Neil. If you look closely you'll see his small keychain attached to his bag when he turns around.
This sentence from the movie seems to be directed to the audience:
"Don't get on the chopper if you can't stop thinking in linear terms."

This film is specifically designed to be watched twice to understand it.
When you watch it first, you're watching it from the perspective of John, the protagonist. You're confused about the whole plot like he is and can only work out half the story, as Neil literally tells him 'you're only halfway there'.
When you're watching it the second time, you're watching the movie from Neil's perspective, understanding half the plot but still unsure of the final conclusion. You know the series of events in the film but its still satisfying because you're observing Neil setup the necessary series of events.
There are two protagonists, that's why the Indian lady even said to John 'do you really think you're the only protagonist?'
Wrong John was never really confused you need to watch it again.

I also love cinematography in movies, and it is actually one of the biggest reasons why I didn't like tenet, having expensive effects and explosions in the movie doesn't mean it has a good cinematography, transformers would literally be a 10/10 if that was the case, tenet is boring cause cinematography is poorly managed

in this era of endless remakes and sequels, it feels nice to see an original blockbuster
I have severe ADHD, and it is very rare for me to find something to enjoy so much that my brain gets stimulated for a prolonged period of time. TENET did that. The joy of simply not understanding and the urge to learn was just about enough. This movie wasn't only great, but also for a person like me, who finds even the highest rated movies boring, it was truly enjoyable in a sense that I had only felt while watching Interstellar or Inception.

Christopher Nolan is a genius, and instead of being arrogant or condescending in his work, he treats his audience as intelligent people and that is the uttermost form of respect he can show to them. All his movies have an element of uniqueness, unmatched by anybody else's work, and in fact often influencing others.
I loved your video, and I agree: TENET is Christopher Nolan at his best and most creative, and the world needs more filmmakers like him!

This movie is really not for everyone. I loved everything about it, I understood it because of the red string on neil’s backpack at the opera when saving him and at the end when he saves him again one last time. Beautiful story once you understand it.

I found the emotional elements of the film shone through on my second viewing, I found I was too busy trying to figure out the plot the first time. Perfect example of a film that gets better with multiple viewings

@Yamraj I didn't notice it during any important dialogue. The main scene that jumps out to me is when Neil was touring the Freeport and he clearly wasn't interested in what the guy was saying, he was looking around for the details essential for the mission

But to be fair both the Prestige and Memento are movies that come once in a generation and are near perfect masterpieces. Nevertheless, Tenet is an amazing movie.Its just that you can only really appreciate it by watching it multiple times, more so than his other films.
People will definitely see this as a masterpiece in the next 20 to 10 years.

I didn’t want to watch this movie because of all the bad reviews but my dad really wanted to so we rented it. I ended up sincerely enjoying the film and when I looked up tenet reviews all I saw were good responses and I was quite confused , but by the end of your video I truly felt like I could’ve cried. Our culture today has programmed us to only consume things that are promoted by others and the end of your video saying this film is worth supporting for the sake of art itself really broke my heart and gave me hope at the same time. Exactly. I saw it had a 70 on Metacritic and I was a bit disappointed. I thought the film would not be as good as I thought it would be. But then I watched it and WOW! How can people dislike this? Fine it's not geared for all audiences who may just want to relax and see a film they can enjoy once. But that's the thing about tenet. It doesn't encourage that. It's a film that encourages you to watch it again and the more times you watch it the more you grow to appreciate the plot and small details. Modern day movies tend to be like something you can watch once and then get ready for the next five installments. Tenet unlike most films is the opposite. The same can be said for interstellar. tenet is nothing less of a modern masterpiece.

Even the verb "to consume" seems gross to me. You don't consume a film, you watch it, and think about it, and dwell on it.
I watched the movie 3 times, and Neil's last scene still makes me cry. The Protagonist's reaction and crying when noticing the red string on his backpack is pretty much my reaction.
I WAS SO PISSED WHEN I READ THAT THIS MOVIE LACKED EMOTION! Honestly, the Protagonist is the most openly funny and compassionate character ever written by Nolan. Also the final scene where he and Neil technically say goodbye, it felt nice. Male friendship is hardly ever shown this pure.

I felt in my heart, as soon as the movie ended, that tenet was one of the best movies I have ever seen, but I just didn't understand half of it. I could even predict certain things just based off of the deep connections I felt between the characters. After binging multiple breakdowns, I feel the same now but with evidence.

Indeed. His connection to Kat and Neil was at the heart of this movie. It is the thing that you feel, yet can’t understand upon first viewing. Watch until the end and then rewind and watch again. Nolan has inverted our emotional investment. Protect/support films like this at all costs!
Personally, I think the main character is called the “protagonist” (and sometimes enemies “antagonist”) because he is just a part of a big system, playing his role to complete the story.
I say this because the time reversing mechanics kind of implies that the future is decided. For example when John fights his own reverse version, it only makes sense that his future and decision to go back in time is already decided or otherwise that scene would never happen.
The future hasn’t “happened” yet, but it’s decided it’s going to, and John is just playing his role.
Its emphasized too “harshly” and sev times in the film to not have a deeper rooted meaning - hes essentially the main designer / operations guy of tenet- we merely witnessed the beginning of how he was indoctrinated into a ops that he himself will create down the road- think batman begins....im guessing sequels the more i analyze it
Yeah I think he chose not to name the Protagonist is because who he is isn't important, he doesn't have a backstory or family like other Nolan protagonists, he's just a piece in a larger game of chess; albeit maybe a queen rather than a pawn, but still just a chess piece
I thought after my 2nd viewing the 2 reasons he names himself the protagonist is because 1. Like the video states hes an ex special forces who is presumed dead and aims to hide his identity from everyone especially with the severity of this new mission and 2. Nolan wants us to be in the Protagonists shoes as if tenet is not only his but our story we the viewer are the protagonist of our own stories, instead of the character having a name and in depth backstory it is left minimal so we can embody ourselves into his reality as just like the protagonist we have no knowledge of the future plot and discover details at the same time as him
Nolan doesn’t make his characters personable because he wants to emphasize the story over the individuals. Which is what sets him apart from literally every other director

An advocate for the movie experience who doesn't let us hear his dialogue, even after feedback, who says many movies today don't have enough depth and then gives us nobody to care about in Tenet. And it's annoying to see the potential of what could have been when we've already seen movies like inception and dark knight, it's not like he doesn't have it in him. He's just missed the mark with Tenet with a misguided view on his artistic statement

You truly were able to verbalize some of my feelings towards critics throwing around those same thoughts against Nolan.
It’s not that his movies are perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination! But there’s simply no one else doing the kind of stuff he does. Tenet oozed style and creativity like none other of his films and it truly is an experience, as you said.
It was a terrible movie, his worst film by far.
Finally I found someone who is as passionate as me for Tenet. Thank you for great video!

This has been probably the best review I´ve seen of Tenet. Actually highlighting all the awesome and unique things that make this movie a masterpiece, rather than just criticizing it because it is "too hard to understand". I´m so tired of people that just wants easy, fast entertainment because they are too lazy to think.

Yes, it’s not easy to follow but I’m pretty sure that was one of Nolan’s main objectives. I didn’t get it the first time, but I kept researching until I got it.

"This film is worth supporting just for the sake of art itself." Nicely put. Saw this on 70mm recently, and even though I wasn't completely in love with it after the lights came up and the credits rolled, I was glad that it had given me something that I hadn't experienced in a theater before. And glad, too, that Nolan didn't rely heavily on exposition to take center stage in the storytelling (which I felt was the case with a lot of Inception!) Very well done video!

This movie is not only a cinematography masterpiece its a puzzle to be experienced for those who like puzzles as well even after leaving the theatre.
The movie is a palindrome the beginning of the movie was the end of the story and the end of the movie was the begining of the story. The first half were blocks of scenes moving forward but with time running inverted from the perspective of the characters. (Hence why sound is so distorted towards the beginning) dialouge would not have made sense even if heard because answers are given before questions.
The second half was time moving foward from the perspective of the characters.
With that general information all the other details can be understood easily
why does the protagonist tries to shoot himself in the head? I still don't understand that, please explain. And how do they survived travelling back in time in the inverted world if the fact that their going against the current of time would prevent them from drinking or eating? Do they drink through their pennis and then pee into the bottle? Or does the plastic film that contains the air make water work normally too?

Saying that sounds a little pretentious but it may be true, 2001 A Space Odyssey wasn't very well received but now it's a classic (from what I've heard) and is one of my favourite films of all time. The thing with Tenet, in my opinion, is that the characters are kind of bland except from Elizabeth Debicki's character. I tried to view it in a way that it's from her perspective but that just didn't work, I viewed it from The Protagonist's (wow... so meta and quirky) perspective as well as Niels perspective and none of them worked. It could all come down to the sound mixing, since the majority of the dialogue is so obscured that you don't get to know a lot about the characters. Though, the thing about that is on my second viewing, somehow, the sound mixing was fine and I could hear a lot more of the dialogue (in the Opera scene it makes sense that you couldn't hear a lot of it due to their masks and the tension, but I could hear the rest of the film quite well although the music did make it sound a bit muffled from time to time) I just couldn't connect with the characters at all.
Maybe it is like Dunkirk, where it's not particularly about the characters but more about the situation they're in but for me it just doesn't work in Tenet. The reason why it works a bit more for me is because Dunkirk is based on a real historical event that the majority of people already feel emotional towards due to it being a very prominent event in WW2, so there fore we can connect it more and understand the characters. The different in Tenet is that it's new concepts and characters that aren't in a situation that's currently popular in the real world, so it's harder to connect with them since there isn't much actual character development.
Even watching it the second time I felt the same way, even though I understood Neil and the Protagonist's relationship much more I just couldn't connect with them at all. I'm not saying this is a terrible movie, it's actually very impressive and entertaining, but after the first viewing it was kind of boring (unlike other Nolan films), I think the films most prominent issue is the pacing since everything just sorta... happens... Especially the scene after The Protagonist freezes in the car and then just suddenly woke up, I couldn't hear what Niel was saying so the reasoning for him just waking up didn't make much sense.
These are just my opinions, I'm happy that people are enjoying this film and that there's a crowd for it, that's why there's different types of films that exist, but personally Tenet really didn't work for me.
Idk I don't get why this movie is so dividing. All this time we complain at the dumb transformers or star wars movies and now that we have a much more complicated, nuanced movie that is made with a blockbuster budget and scale people complain that it was "too complicated". It's like going to a museum and seeing a huge and beautifull painting but saying it sucks because after looking at it for 2 seconds you don't get it.
Because most people like to pretend they are smarter than they actually are. A Transformers or Star Wars tries to cater to the lowest common denominator, so they are easy enough to grasp and to bitch and feel superior about. (A lot of the critique of those franchises is also just regurgitation of just a few intelligent breakdowns on youtube or reddit, however.) When they do get confronted with something that challenges their intellect, however, and they cannot consult an analysis for it, they'd rather blame their lack of understanding on a convoluted plot than their own level of intelligence.
It doesn't suck due to complication. It sucks because the Character arcs are poorly paced. The underlying plot it a bit goofy, Sator is not really that interesting of a villian and not even that terrifying no matter how hard he tries.
It does to the people claiming convoluted. I liked the archetypes behind the characters. Sator was conceptually a very interesting villain. If he cannot exist in the world, no one is allowed to. Sator has an insane motivation, that gets stronger as his life is ending. That kind of psychopatic drive makes him psychologically a terrifying villain. There were some minor plotholes due to the way some of the physics contradicts it self to serve the story. Other than than that I did not think it goofy. Interstellar had the same kind of problem with the tesseract in/near the black hole, where the physics need to become secondary for a little.

It just showed more direct emotion, had space and was about love; like a star wars movie but better. Intellectually TENET was superior and yes, intellect is required for emotion; we are humans after all.

I remember watching several movies in my life which at first viewing I realized that I just had seen somethng special and it would take at least a second viewing before i could appreciate it. Today it's hard for people to stay concentraded for so long and having have to watch something a second or third time is unthinkable for many. Watched Tenet yesterday, having some prior understanding of the basics of physics and time I still struggled to keep up with the story. I realized again that this needs a second viewing att least. I have not made up my mind of it yet, because there was simply too much to take in that I need time to process it. I really like movies that challenge me like this. It is uncommon these days.
I love how the trains at the beginning of the film hint at the form of the whole story and then we see how people move as normal and as inverted as those same trains. TENET is a homage to the plot and everything that telling a story can be. Anyone who has trouble understanding the film should listen to Jhon’s advice given by Priya at the end - You have to start look differently at the world... or face the consequences with not catching up in time.
This what happens when Nolan sees everything in 5th Dimensional reality via a teseract and we are still in linear time ...

Interstellar, Inception, TENET need to be re watched because you miss so many details in the beginning. It is a new experience the second and third time you watch it.
I really enjoy Tenet as I think the plot, actors, music, and direction although i can see why some people had legit concerns.
I wish they would have flushed out more backstory behind the protagonist to help us understand his motivations but like it alot otherwise
Now that i'm old enough and see the beauty of cinema, i'm thankful i got to see this masterpiece.
I personally thought looking back at the film that the conversation between Neil and the protagonist when they first met was the most important and foreshadowing, when he asks if john would use a child as a hostage, he says "no". But then when questioned about a woman, he answers along the lines of "it depends". The rest of the movie goes on to explain that, even if he did use a woman as a hostage or tool to negotiate he could not live with himself if anything happened to that person. It shows deeper than any backstory that could have been presented by a "glimpse of his past" or some exposition of said past. The power behind Nolan's story telling here is better than any movie I can think of in past years. We don't have to be fed information about the character to care and stand with him on this experience, and we don't have to know about the Protagonists past to know what he cares about and stands for too.
I think people aren't ready for this type of movie, but I think the box office reports suggest that there already a lot of people ready for this level of entertainment.
I had the same feeling with Interstellar, I was so overwheolmed with the scientific information, it was only after the second viewing I could connect emotionally with Murphy and Coops story. Nolan's career reminds me a lot of another great british director: Hitchcock. So ahead of his time, it took decades and the french for the world to truly recognize his genius. Thanx!!!

The love side of tenet I felt is Neil and JDW. Not necessarily romantic love, but you really feel their bromance and are heartbroken when Neil departs.
You can even see Rob Pattinson exhibiting a kind of playfulness towards JDW in the scene where rob was trying to sleep but JDW had more questions. That scene was cute 😊

Dude, thank you for acknowledging the audio used in Nolan's films. The method use of this type of sound mixing interwoven in his films I think is a way to include the audience in the film, more directly. A good film is a film that elicits emotion and the sound editing used in Nolan's films is so threaded with all the feels it's impeccable. In Dunkirk I felt as though I felt the dread the soldiers felt hearing those planes, hearing the engines of enemies, etc. In Inception, I was on the edge of my seat with wonder hearing those brass tones while in the dream world, exploring consciousness. Don't even get me started on Interstellar and the others. But, seriously. Tenet's score is sublime. Just like Stanley Kubrick, the perfect use of sound mixing when it's needed and unexpected provides such an added in-depth touch to the movie. If the movie really is about the concept and understanding between Control and Freedom/Love then the use of sound editing creates a wonderful atmosphere to feel many profound emotions throughout the course of the film.
Maybe I'm just a touchy person but after someone else on youtube indicated, I really do believe the film is literally about free will, the Freedom of choice, and choosing Love above Control. We see embodiments of things people desire/want in these characters. Sator being Control, the Protagonist being Free Will. Neil also representing Freedom of choice as well as Love. Selfless love through the ultimate defiance against Control with self-sacrifice to save his friends and the world. I could go on and on but I digress.
Also, someone needs to analyze this film further because if you watch it a couple times, you'll be able to tell that the colors Yellow, Blue, Red, and Black are quite dominant throughout the movie. In a different order, I believe certain lines in the script of the movie in relation to the color-coding provide an additional timeline as well. Sator states as shit goes down to his Russian Henchmen "Watch Everything. Give me all the details." The watch everything part I feel was Nolan stating his 2-second warning to the audience that the timeline is speeding up and watch closely, don't blink. And that's where the colors come in. You see the colors come in and out before this halfway point in the movie, but it's at this stage where the colors start changing their entropy, from backward to forwards to backward, etc etc. Go watch it again you'll see what I'm talking about lol.
when a movie this long has me glued to the screen every minute i know its a good one if anything i replayed a couple of scenes while watching
Nolan and the cast described this movie as a magic trick, and I think the real trick is that you have to watch it two times, since the first time is like you are moving forward but the secind time feels like you have been inverted and every little detail and action falls in the right place.
A true masterpiece, such a shame that it was premiered on this awful times but it was the best thing to have ever come out this crappy year

Also what is this bs about "only remakes etc."? There is so much fresh stuff being released through the years. Movies are amazing and unique, so are TV shows (now more so than ever) and novel formats such as game media.

I have to agree that Tenet was a masterpiece. I went in ready to figure out everything but realized pretty early that wasn't going to happen so I understood what I could and just enjoyed the movie. I advise doing the same to anyone that hasn't watched yet. I'm going to try and figure it out the next couple times I watch. I'm sure he won't but it would be interesting to hear a full explanation from Nolan.

The fact that you said you have watched this movie 5 times struck a chord with me. I only watched it once last week. But I felt like I wanted to watch it again immediately after. Not because I was so in love with it but because I was so curious. And maybe only 3 or 4 movies have done that for me in my 27 years on this planet, and one of those films was The Prestige. People was expecting this movie to be Inception 2.0, and when it wasn't and they don't understand the film, they just jump to "the movie is just a cold overcomplicated headache", completely disregarding everything this movie is doing. Nolan has set the bar for his movies incredibly high with movies like The Dark Knight, Inception, Memento, Interstellar, all incredible films from different genres. This movie is decades ahead of it's time and in many ways Nolan's finest work. Like you said, TENET is a modern masterpiece, people just aren't ready for it yet.
well I heard it has met with a mediocre response upon theatrical release in USA and its content has been very closely guarded by the filmmakers as well the media. As far as Christopher Nolan is concerned well yes he does like to mind benders but the content has to be worthy of ambiguity. I haven't been shocked and puzzled by film in such a way in a very long time. Just a mere fact that I had to stop and rewind the movie so many times to analyze it, I found it enjoyable, I wasn't just sitting there being amused, I was put to think haha.
The version of time travel that is used in this movie, the whole "what's happened happens", the whole thing that seems to have turned off a lot of viewers because it brings up the question of free will and a whole "what's the point" perspective on the whole movie, can very easily be explained by one of the most important lines of the movie. When John talks to the scientist, and she describes how the inverted bullet can jump in your hand, she specifies: "you need to have dropped it". This is crucial. Even if you see the effects before the cause, that cause is inherently free willed. Yeah, you wouldn't see those effects if you didn't do it, but the fact is you did do it, of your own volition, which is why you see the effects. It's not any more complicated than that: you have free will, and you can do things to impact the world. Usually, the effects of those choices are only seen after you make the choice. Nothing changes if the effects come before, you still made the choice. It was still up to you, up to your free will. Because you need to have dropped it.

Agree with you whole HEARTedly, man! A lot of people online have been saying that it's a detriment to Kat's character that she's so "tied down" by her kid instead of more "important" things a woman should be doing. But I bet a lot of those people who say those things aren't even parents. It's extremely tough to know what if feels like to be a parent, which I am now (my kids are really young). She is a true, loving, selfless mother who is also an accomplished career woman.

Just finished watching Tenet.
It blew me away. I had to pause it a few times because I was trying so hard to figure it out.
Then it kind of clicked about an hour in, and I just watched...
My god . . . . this video was incredible. I saw Tenet twice and enjoyed it, but had some issues with the film. However with some new insight I can’t wait to see it again this weekend. It’s really fun to talk with friends about the plot, who’s where in time, reading hundreds of Reddit threads and looking at a temporal pincer diagram for an hour. There are too many films that I forget after viewing, but I will always find myself thinking about Tenet, and how great unfiltered Nolan can be.

Tenet was so wonderful. I feel unworthy to even be alive to be able to see such an expression of beauty. I'm still shook from how everything was woven in so well. The stakes were so great but in a way that was grounded. Wow bravo
hahaha, this has to be a joke. Nothing was woven in well at all. It was all over the place, and a lot of the core ideas about time travel aren't really explained in the film when they're 'explaining' them.

Yes I understand that Neil - is Sators son - MaximiLIEN (Palidrome of his name) indicating he is moving backwards in time. Temporal pincer movement. So Washington the Protagonist saves him and his mother when he is a young boy - but then he has to travel back in time when he is older from the future to save Washington and make the TeneT mission a success. I get it. It was just really poorly executed. It wasn't the story it was the execution of the story. It felt "disjointed" and "cold" no real emotional investment in any of the characters. Its not a patch on Momento which was really tightly edited and well constructed which emoted a lot of feeling. This simply didn't execute the story or vision anywhere near as well as many of his previous movies. I know many people who didn't even finish watching it they found the editing so bad.

And forces the audience to make several damaging assumptions: A) These future-scientists have hard data that Time, itself, can be annihilated by some whirly-bird MacGuffin (algorithm from the future; hidden in the past) and thusly tension is set. B) Time is apparently "on our side," for if there is ANY of it left to navigate the Ending of Time, the badguy's plot has already failed, perhaps endlessly in some Failsauce Vortex. C) We, the audience, can only assume "The Past Cannot be Changed" in TENET, we don't see evidence of Self-consistency at play. We are not witness to a pliable "Past." Meaning the Good Guys already won, endlessly. Yay.
I thought I was watching a channel with a million subs, the quality and work put into the video really shows.
a note on Nolan describing his movies as “an experience” simply reminds me of taking my aesthetic philosophy course and the broad spectrum of aesthetic experiences one may encounter. This film, and his others, classify as an aesthetic experience because of its thought provoking nature
