It sounds like a combination of Dostoyevsky's "We look for truth where we feel comfortable" and the common maxim "Moths are attracted to light." Norm got deep! RIP
I hear you. When he was in SNL I was a mild fan but when I was undergoing chemo and 45 rounds of radiation for Stage 3 cancer, I became a HUGE fan. His brilliance , while silently fighting C, with good humor and side spitting comedy will never be surpassed. His routines truly helped me get through some dark days.
Binge watching Norm Macdonald videos on UA-cam saved me from the blues. I had during the Covid epidemic tail end. Then he died. Thank you Norm. God bless.
The joke is at least 60 years old, I heard when I was a kid, but McDonald tells it exquisitely. Even knowing the punchline and after hearing it so many times before, I hang on every word.
He cut the best parts. The subtle inflections of tbe story and pronounced exaggeration is what made the joke hilarious. A Norm Joke must never be edited just like life itself every single piece is needed to make the whole.
His best was making fun of Carrottop. Conan: what do you call a movie with Carrottop? Norm: box office poison! Conan: well its called Chairman of the board, make something out of that funnyman. Norm: Chairman of the bored. B O R E D.
Some people I've known talk like that even when they're not telling a joke and they never get to a punchline or even to any point of what in the hell they're talking about 😂
