Just how big and tall is the A’s Las Vegas Stadium? Believe it or not, there is a domed baseball stadium in this world that matches the team’s planned size and capacity. That’s the good news. The bad news? Everything else about it, and other dome stadiums and all arenas in general highlight just why the latest renderings of the Las Vegas baseball stadium still don’t make any sense. You don’t need to be Art Van da Leigh to understand just how wild this is.
Is the A’s Las Vegas Stadium feasible? That is the big question everyone wants to know. And to that extent, the answer is yes. We actually have proof that you can build a domed baseball stadium on 9 acres with a capacity of 30,000. As much as I despise John Fisher, that much is true.
For proof of that, we travel to Japan and a place I have watched a game from, the Seibu Dome or what is known today as the Belluna Dome. Located to the west of Tokyo and home to the Saitama Seibu Lions, it began life as an outdoor stadium before a roof was placed on top in the late 1990s.
That allowed it to host various non-baseball events, including the G1 Climax 24 Finals in 2014, a time when Tetsuya Naito was still known as the Stardust Genius. Odd times those were.
Anyway, the Seibu Dome covers a little more than nine acres in terms of area size. The specific number varies. I have found 9.5-ish online and if you measure on Google Earth you get closer to ten. But it’s close enough.
The capacity is 31,522, which puts it in line with what the A’s are planning for. That brings us to a huge discrepancy between the two. Seibu Dome features just one bowl. The A’s renderings have four separate decks. That doesn’t compute in the slightest.
Moving on to the height, Seibu Dome is 63 meters at its highest point. Tropicana Field is roughly 68 meters in height. And the most obvious comparison, the Sydney Opera House is 67 meters. That gives us a good idea of what the height of the Las Vegas baseball stadium would be somewhere around that range.
Of course, that is roughly 20-22 Stories tall. For comparison, the largest tower at the Tropicana is 70 meters and the MGM Grand across the street is 30 stories. New York, New York is obviously taller but they still didn’t block off the resort with a full size statue of Liberty.
Even if Bally’s were to push their hotel to the very back corner of the land plot, the amount of dead space this stadium would create is massive. You are talking about 10-15 stories of view that is taken up by what will look like a disfigured rolly polly. There is a reason why there are no renderings of the back view, by the way. Because there is nothing to see. Everything is focused toward the strip.
I know Bally’s isn’t exactly the smartest company in the world. But eventually, they will catch on to this fact. At that point, what do the A’s do? Dig down. That is always expensive and making the stadium seem smaller at street level defeats the purpose. Do you really want it going eye-to-eye with the Excalibur Castle?

To counter your point of Bally's having a bunch of rooms facing the back of the stadium, would be to point out that Bally's is allowing the A's to build on the South Eastern corner of the lot. The renderings make it appear as if the stadium is on the North Western corner. So if the renderings were to include the new hotel/casino. The A's stadium would actually be facing the back of the new hotel which would get the view in the renderings. This also becomes a bit unrealistic because then that big window would be exposed to sunsets which is another big issue that shows how rushed those renderings were.

Great work on this. Vegas I am sorry you deserve better and so does Oakland. Give Vegas a team and build it right as an expansion. This way you get your team, and build something right.

The more arguments you make about this stadium, the more it becomes a monument to avarice and hubris. I mean, it’s gonna be a terrible game day experience and an expensive one. The damage Fisher has done to this team will either require a decade of good drafting or deep pockets to fix. Until then, who’s gonna drop a boatload of a money to see the A’s play a meaningless game in July?

The Diamondbacks and the Rangers made it to the World Series last year after losing 100 games three seasons ago... Implying you can turn a cellar dweller into a championship team in three years, not ten...

@@ronclark9724 but the Diamondbacks have a plan to compete. Every five or six years they field a fairly competitive team. The difference is the Athletics are trying to be flipped and Fisher just doesn’t have enough liquid assets. Plus the Rangers actually spent some money last season and even made a move at the trade deadline. When your losing has a goal, then you can quickly turnaround the system. Fisher had no goal other than alienate the fans by making tickets more expensive as well as raise parking prices in addition to his planned tanking. But we shall see what happens with the Diamondbacks, considering they are threatening a move if they don’t get a cheap parcel of land near Scottsdale so they can build a sports village. So we shall see how that plays out.

These misleading renderings (pt 2) are intended to entice investors into helping finance the stadium because Fisher doesn't have the financing at this time & make no Mistake about it there WILL be cost overruns and the kind of compromises that would make folks cringe after the fact so before the regret of losing an expansion opportunity sets in to the John Fisher traveling circus 🤡 I hope folks smarten up before it's too late & tax payers are taking a loss on that $380 mil & you cannot even voice your opinion because they are ignoring any and all feedback that doesn't serve them.

Your point is a bit flawed. For starters they could just as easily, build down into the ground. Drop Field Level to five stories or so below grade(This would actually help keep the Stadium cooler) and in keeping with the Vegas theme, do what the Blue Jays did, and build Hotel rooms in the outfield(with balconies). But go for a Stadium roof as opposed to a dome.
