- Trigger warning LOL Among the things that "must do" when you visit Las Vegas, there are extremely overrated things. Things, like drinking a FAT Tuesday, visiting the Ellis Island Casino for their steak deal or stopping by the Top of the World Restaurant. This video will trigger a lot of people but it might help even more. Let me know if I got any of these wrong :)

My last time having the Ellis Island steak dinner special was a disappointment. Correct, this isn't a great cut of meat. What I do recommend is the BBQ place inside Ellis Island. All they do is ribs and chicken. It's fantastic.

Those ribs are mediocre at best. I had them for free and still couldn’t justify finishing the rack. Ribs should be slow smoked for a couple hours. The Ellis island ribs taste like they were cooked in a crockpot with liquid smoke poured on them. In their defense I live in the midsouth near Memphis. The Ellis island BBQ restaurant wouldn’t last a week here. At least judging by the ribs.
@@Eatpinktacos27 After years of eating there I finally tried the fish and chips. It was undercooked. I should have sent them back. I've watched too many videos where people raved about them for them to be undercooked.
@@trey9540 Wow, harsh. You may be right regarding the quality compared to Memphis, but compared what what I've gotten elsewhere, they are amazing. Especially for the price. We like their house made rootbeer and the BBQ sauce with has the rootbeer in it. To each their own. We've never regretted eating their for the money.
Ellis Island and Ocean one are replacing the niche left when all the cheap buffets where closed, that is get filled up and go. Shure they are not high end restaurants, but not every one wants to eat at high end places all the time. Places like these, and buffets like the one at South Point, Excalibur, Main Street Station just get the job done, and when you want a high end meal, there are great choices also, so for me, they are good for what they are.

Been watching for awhile. Cool to see the improvement in quality. Well made concise video. A few things on this list we have thought about but never followed through on. Off the list of things to do now for sure.

noooo, not the gondolas... I proposed to my wife there 20+ years ago... but I get it, haven't been on since. But it was nice... had our own gondola, proposed, the gondolier yelled in the best fake Italian accent 'She said a yessss!' and everyone clapped. It was a fun and memorable time. (and nerve wracking!) :)😜

I strongly agree with you on five of ten of your choices, and kind of agree with another three. So with eight of your ten selections I can definitely see your point.
ESPECIALLY Ocean One and Fat Tuesdays. The former is often nicknamed "Cockroach One" for a reason: it's brutal..............and the latter is just packed with too much added sugar and completely watered down and isn't even anything novel to begin with.
On the ones I ***kind of*** agree............Tipsy Robot is that sort of thing that I think is cute trying once just for the novelty, but it really is a one-and-done. Same with the Gondola Rides. I think it's worthwhile trying once, but ONLY once.
The only two I somewhat disagree with you on.............are Top Of The World and Criss Angel. Hear me out. While I definitely think both of those are something one only needs to try once.............I'd argue they're both work trying once for the experience. The former has a one-of-a-kind view and experiential aspect with the additional 108 SkyDeck.............while the latter is actually pretty entertaining and hilarious for what it is. So I don't consider either of those among the worst wastes of time and money by any stretch in Vegas...........although, again, I think they're both one-and-dones.
Here's what my Top Ten OVERRATED List looks like:

4) Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum
5) Fat Tuesdays
6) Prioritizing "Location" As Your Primary Motivator In Where You Stay On The Strip
7) Celebrity Chef I.P. Concepts
8) Hash House A-Go-Go
9) Bellagio Fountain Show (Yes: it is cool to experience here and there, but it just isn't nearly as interesting as the Bellagio Conservatory, the Mirage Volcano Show or even Wynn's Lake Of Dreams. I'm glad it exists surely, but it is nonetheless overrated compared to other attractions)
10) Nightclubs (If You Want Plenty Of Room To Dance)

Do you mean just the Strip, or Vegas in the broader sense? With my list above, I just focused specifically on the Strip (which isn't even technically in Las Vegas, but I digress, hahahahaha). So for now I'll just go with the Strip. =)

1) Sahara (Such a terribly underappreciated, underrated resort. Most overlook it just because of the location, but the joke's on them because the value is among the best on the Strip, you have a great mix of both fine-dining and approachable casual dining, you have a recently revamped Ultra Azilo Pool which is one of the best standard pools on the Strip, and the rooms have some nice quirks and personality to them. =) )
2) The Art At CityCenter (Seriously: a lot of people are hustling and bustling that they never stop and breathe and get to admire all the gorgeous art installations and sculptures that dot that whole area. For example, there's a work of art behind the registration desk at the Aria that's meant to symbolically resemble the Colorado River, and there's some other experiential art around Waldorf-Astoria, Vdara and the Crystal Shops. =) )
3) Flamingo's Wildlife Habitat (Between Bellagio's attractions and the Mirage Volcano Show, this attraction often seems to get forgotten about and take for granted, but I can't stress enough how cool it is between all the lush tropical vegetation and various birds. Plus, unlike Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef Aquarium, it's free to the public! =) )
4) Delano (Another terribly underrated, underappreciated Strip resort. I personally think it has the second most breathtakingly beautiful lobbies on the entire Strip, and there's also impressive value in their standard rooms considering how spacious they are comprising of almost as much square feet as Palazzo and Encore's standard rooms.)
5) The Miracle Mile Shops Rain Show (This attraction was temporarily ceased during the peak of the pandemic, but has been refreshed and I still find it fascinating how it seldom gets mentioned anywhere. I'm not saying it's as grand as the Mirage Volcano Show or anything like that per se, but when we're talking underrated..............yeah: I think this definitely is because it almost never comes up in conversation yet is pretty cool for what it is.)
6) The Pinball Hall Of Fame (Yes: I DO consider this on the Strip because it's basically across the street from Mandalay Bay at its southernmost end. It certainly does have its loyal fans, but I still feel this is slept on by many.)
7) Park MGM's Lounges (The Strip obviously has no shortage of great lounges, but I feel Park MGM's tend to get overlooked in comparison to the more buzzy ones. Which is their loss between Park MGM low-key has a trio of awesome, distinct lounges with Juniper Lounge, Mama Rabbit and NoMad Bar which I highly recommend all three. =) )
8) Drai's After Hours (Drai has been an institution in Vegas for quite some time, yet I genuinely notice few talk about Drai's After Hours like they do Drai's Beachclub. I LOVE Drai's Beachclub, but Drai's After Hours can't be slept on because the hypnotic, salacious yet sophisticated ambience and atmosphere is simply one-of-a-kind and I haven't encountered another club quite like this on the Strip. =) )
9) Treasure Island's Standard Rooms (Even though, in my opinion, T.I. has declined markedly under Phil Ruffin's ownership and the resort is otherwise in kind of a sad, semi-dilapidated shape presently without any clear direction..............their rooms are still in surprisingly decent shape. Although I wouldn't recommend T.I. as a destination resort, their rooms are an excellent choice if you're just booking a resort to use as a launching pad or base camp and then intend to just insert yourself into the action from there but don't want to pay the comparatively exorbitant rates at neighboring Venetian/Palazzo, Wynn/Encore and to a somewhat lesser extent Mirage. =) )
10) Being Sober Visiting (Yes: I enjoy a good libation much like most of us do. In the same breath, I've also done networking trips to Vegas where I remained sober throughout, and I have to say it's become easier compared to before in finding zero-proof/mocktail options on countless lounge, restaurant and pool menus. In all honesty I love mixing it up and having a small handful of trips being 100% sober: where I just power up on cold-pressed juices at the Juice Standard, hearty brunch at Truth & Tonic, etc. Even if you're someone who generally enjoys drinking in Vegas, I highly recommend giving a sober trip a try sometime. It may surprise you just how equally as fun it can truly be. =) )
@@Vegas-Must-Try I didn't put mine in any particular order, actually. I just typed whichever ten first popped in my mind's eye in real time. I agree the fountains are definitely somewhere between first and third most-overrated with how extremely talked about they are, whereas the wax museum isn't talked about as much.

@@Vegas-Must-Try disagree with you on Tacos El Gordo. Mediocre at best, over priced and hate having to jump from line to line to get different cuts of meat. There are way better places off strip, like food trucks and stands.

The Village pub not bad, but you are right not for a foodie. My issue with the Vegas of today is there is no middle ground for food. Its either overpriced or a low quality budget meal. We no longer go to restaurants on the strip and venture off strip for nice dinners. We will be doing that again next week when we arrive. As for the other overrated - I have never been, and I'm good with that.
Agree with all your picks. I purposely haven't tried any of them except Ocean One which I took my family who doesn't care too much they just want cheap food so it's a win for them.
Ocean One is still the goat for some wings and 3 for $12 drinks. Take the third one to go. Also, I did an anniversary a The Top of the World and you are paying for a crazy sunset view in the end. The food is decent, but nothing special.

I completely agree with the Criss Angel Magic Show. I used to love the TV Show and wanted see him in Vegas. When I did I was so disappointed it was nothing like it. Waste of time and money.

I will say that after years of visiting Vegas, I tried the gondola ride for the first time, and actually had a wonderful experience. We went right before it got busy, so we didn't wait long. Also we paid for the shared ride and still rode without another party. The gondolier was very kind and complementary to us, and also a great singer. I enjoyed the experience, and may try the outdoor ride one day. I'd recommend it at least once if you have the time and need something to do. I do agree about the bystanders recording, but I tuned them out.

My husband and I just got back from our Vegas trip!
We did the outdoor gondola ride. As an overall experience I did think it was overpriced but regardless we did have a good time and if we were being watched/filmed, we didn't notice. I would imagine the indoor ride wouldn't have been as pleasant.
I abstained from the Buddy cake vending machines during the trip but caved in at the airport as one last Vegas snack. I got the carrot cake and honestly really enjoyed it but, looking at the other flavors, ngl they didn't look that great.
100% agree about Javier's. I've seen so many reviews claiming Javier's is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Vegas.. I was very unimpressed. Good to see someone, especially a hispanic, agree with me.
💯 we were actually considering going to Javiers!😂 My husband let me know he was not feeling it! So happy we saved our $ to go eat at Barry's downtown
My hubby and I have celebrated our anniversary at the Top of the World on two occasions prior to 2019 , and both experiences were wonderful. We don't remember paying extra to sit by the window, even though that view was requested in our reservation. However, on our second visit, we had to wait at the bar for a short while until a window seat opened up. Yes, it was pricey as most steak houses in Vegas are, but our medium rare steaks were cooked perfectly. We took advantage of the photo op one time, and that picture came our nicely!!

For those wondering too, the cakes from Carlo's Bakery are sold at Walmart for like around $5 more or less. Much cheaper compared to those prices at the vending machine.

I don't agree with ocean one, I'm not going there for gourmet food that costs less than $10 because we know that's not going to happen. I'm from Ohio and the quality is pretty typical of a normal restaurant
Sorry to brake your heart my friend but the steak deal at Ellis Island is a good deal! No its not a steakhouse steak but its pretty good for the price, we get it either for breakfast or for dinner, it's a must every time we visit Vegas. Great video by the way!

I agree for the most part, but Ocean One food I thought was pretty good, at least their $5 lunch menu and $10 burger. Ellis Island, I like their cheap craft beers, and all food is reasonably priced, within 5 minute walk to the center of strip.

About the only one I might take issue with is Javier's restaurant. I think Mexican food varies so much depending on the region it is based upon, and it is often toned down to be acceptable for mass markets, IMHO. Nonetheless, we've had some pretty good meals in there. I do totally agree with you that the Margarita's are amazing. The restaurant and bar is beautiful and we always enjoy the ambience with the ornate wood carvings, the glistening sugar sandstone, or the draped rope at the bar, to name a few of our favorite things. So while it may not be our favorite "Mexican food", it is still one of our favorite places to eat for the overall experience when we visit.

I must be the oddball, having gone on the gondola 4 times. I have also enjoyed it each time. Yes, it's expensive for what you get. Really, the only reason I've been on it 4 times is because there was someone along who was on their first trip to Vegas. I have not regretted it. Like with most things, when you are with someone experiencing it for the first time, it makes it new and fun again. If we've all done it before though, we wouldn't spend the money on it. We do love having a real overlooking it, and listening to the singing and seeing others experience it for the first time.

Interesting list. I always appreciate someone taking an actual position so I enjoyed it. A few points.
- only time I eat that steak at Ellis Island is with eggs in the morning. And when you have had a tough night and pair with a Bloody Mary, it's cool. Any other time of day, no thanks.
- everyone seems to agree on the gondola rides, but imo you should at least do it to say you have done it before putting on a list.
- I have never seen Criss Angel for the exact reasons you specify
- Javiers we will agree to disagree. Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had? no. Is it overpriced for what you get? probably, its Mexican food. Is it overrated? Not to me.
My wife and I used to go to the restaurant at the top of the Strat for our anniversary every year until we noticed the prices skyrocketed and the portions were smaller. This is before they would charge just for reservations. This is definitely a no-go.
Alright! Can you do one of these pn Fremont St. I went there a couple of years back and loved the history of it. I am a history guy. I looked at the Mobb Museum and Container Park.
I wanted to do more. I jad my grandmother at the hotel and i met some tourist women. So. That was that.

Spot on about Ellis island. Was a regular stop for many years. After the pandenic they switched steak quality and the steak went way downhill. Also took away the inclusion of a draft beer and raised the price. Steak is shoe leather now, avoid. Steak used to be excellent!

My hubby & I took in the Criss Angel show our first trip many years ago. It was interesting for the tricks back then. Highlight was when he stopped the show and threw out a guest for recording/flash photo during the act. He literally stopped the entire trick, gave a huge monologue on how many hours it takes to make one of the tricks, & how flashing or lights from the audience could injure one of the cast. Very strange! But made for a good story to my friends.

We were in Vegas last week. We saw the Chris Angel show. Most of what we saw were tricks I've seen 50 years ago. I felt he is a kind hardhearted guy. It was sad seeing him not gracefully going in to retirement. Save your money and skip this show.

@@mattarmstrong2242 Wrong!! When I come to Vegas I take public transportation everywhere. I'm over 55, $2.50 (24HR) for an all day pass on the bus, which includes the Deuce. Now, if you're in a hurry, uber. I'm never in a hurry when I come to Vegas and I just come to eat. Next trip will be 7 days in May.
It's been a few years, but when my guy and I rode the gondola ride it was at night, outside. We were the only ones riding outside too. Must have been off season. No one is staring at you and it felt romantic.
Now the High Roller happy hour is over hyped and not worth the money. There were so many people in the cart that all of us only got served one drink before we docked.

OMG I completely agree with you about the steak from Ellis Island. So many other people recommended it because it's cheap, which it is, but it's off the strip so you have to go out of your way to get there. Then when you receive it, its tough and chewy. Not worth your precious Vegas time.
My family and I enjoyed Javier's and also eat there when we visit. I do agree that it's too loud!

I agree with every single one of these. Ocean One and Village Pub serve mediocre food..better than a mall food court but not by much. Fat Tuesday is pretty much a tourist trap.

Really? I've eaten the steak at Ellis Island and a ribeye at Delmonico. The one at Ellis Island is very good and worth every penny. The steak I had at Delmonico was a ripoff and was average at best.
Criss Angel show "beLIEve" at the luxor was amazing, especially the very first one with Cirque du soleil. But after that downhill for sure.
SO RIGHT, you nailed it on all counts, lousy food and lousy drinks, fake drone gondolas, Buddy V's was good back in the day, excellent advice

Ocean one made my mother's day trip with my mom and aunt so affordable. My mom wanted to keep going back. Highly recommend for brunch
I used to think Ocean One was a gimmicky mid breakfast spot but after going there I really enjoyed it. Where else can you get two full breakfast entrees for $12

We first rode the Gondolas in 2005 after our wedding and it was amazing. This was also a time before EVERYONE was carrying a camcorder.
We've done it a couple times since and still enjoyed it. I think it's worth a one time experience. Just try to trance yourself into gondolier/experience and tune out everyone around you

go vid. the only one i would say im good with is Ocean's yeah food is ehhhh... but the drinks makes it a little bit better and $13.00 for 3 cocktails and they don't cheat you on the alcohol :) but the wait time... ugh.... lol.

Ellis Islands main benefit is being one of the best value breakfasts in Las Vegas. The beergarden up front has pretty good bar food (certainly a site better than Beer Park)
The only one of these places I’ve been to is the Cake Vending machine… I consider myself a cake expert and I have to say it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t OMG I need a whole cake now. It was weirdly dry and moist at the same time and had a weird texture as you were chewing it. The frosting wasn’t bad and I thought it was a decent size piece of cake, but I wouldn’t buy another one, especially after learning that they’re soaked in what they call “cake liquid”. Had I seen that before I probably would have passed on it. But it was a fun, one time novelty thing to do. Plus I got it right after playing with the Chippendale boys getting our photo taken, so I was in the mood for some sweeeet cake!! 🍑

I’m a big fan of Ellis island ….. just a cool little place , but as for the steak deal it’s ok but I don’t even order it anymore there are much better menu options . I agree 100% on the rest !! You pretty much nailed it .
I did a few of these things on my first trip in January, plan to go back this year and I want to see a magic show this time bad! Guess I'll go to Penn and Teller lmao 🤣
Javier's is a So Cal chain, based in Orange County. They are known for decent (not amazing) food but good drinks. It's just an atmosphere and place to (sometimes) people watch. Gotta be in the right mood or crowd I guess 😂 but there are probably a couple other Mexican places on the strip that are just as good if not better for the price.

The cake machine is disgusting. There are fresh pastries everywhere in Vegas. Why get it from a machine? So, question, what are the top 3 Mexicans restaurants on the strip?

Don't get the vending machine pizza either. If Boss Cafe open, go there. There are never forks for that cake too. Worked a window that non customers would ask for a fork. We started charging for forks.
After shopping at a few dispensaries, the cake vending machines are the answer for late night munchies 😅

Oh man.. Fat Tuesdays. We did a Vegas guys trip a few years ago which we stayed constantly buzzed for but never overdid it. On the last day there I grabbed a Fat Tuesdays for myself on the way to the airport. Next thing I remember I'm waking up in the airport bathroom stall because someone's calling me telling me our plane is about to leave. The next couple days were roughhh. Stay away from those things.
How about bad pools that are not heated i carry a pool the gauge the Strat was 62 rio 66 temp that was why no one is swimming there body terma....to get in also why do they close in winter and close as early as 5 o clock ugh.........
