I have recently cut my own hair. It's exhilarating. I have wanted really short hair for years, but my mom wouldn't let me get it cut simply because she, "liked my hair." That is a ridiculous reason, so I cut it myself. I had been planning on cutting it for weeks, but finally got the courage to do it by telling myself that I would never do it. It was so fun!! I never really "rebel" so it was so cool to finally do something that I wasn't supposed to. And cutting my hair made me feel like such an adult. Like I was mature enough to make my own decisions. It was an amazing feeling. Admittedly, it was shorter than expected (of course, haha) but I don't regret it. Plus, I want short hair so much that I don't care if it looks good or not (it looks okay, I've gotten used to it). I'm sure no one will see this, I just wanted to share. :) Also, I watched this video a year before cutting my hair, so I knew what not to do.
Edit: Recently as in, on Easter. So, not that recent, haha.

This was me in my earlier years. My parents had repeatedly told me to not go short as I would supposedly regret it later. A few months later I was due for a haircut and my dad booked a hair appointment. I went there alone, and told the hairdresser to cut it short :) never regretted it. As you can imagine parents weren’t very pleased but it was the first step of me finding my own identity.!

As a hairdresser I can confirm how stressful it is to cut someone’s hair. The first girls hair didn’t look bad but when people freak out like that all you can do is say that it looks fine and that you disagree. It’s happened to me enough times but I usually didn’t mess up that bad. People will complain about their haircut even if they tell you that’s the way they want it.

My mom cut my hair at home. It didn't look good at first, but i let it go back to its natural fluffyness and it actually turned out really good. Good thing my mom made a lot of mistakes with hair as a teenager and learned how to actually cut hair😂

As a girl, I can confirm we do it too. I had hair about down to the middle of my back and after a while I just got tired of it. So I took some clippers and shaved it all off. Most fun thing I ever did, it's just so freeing to be honest. I never had to worry about styling or brushing it, if I wanted to color it all I needed was like 3 tablespoons of dye, and the best part is I saved so much shampoo and conditioner

If you’re gonna use this strategy to cut your hair (which you shouldn’t), cut each side separately. Cut in quick motions on one side to make half a triangle, and repeat on the next side. Therefore your hair will have shape and will have better layers.
But of course, you could always just go to a hairdresser - and not traumatise your child with a haircut.

I feel for the first girl. She obviously was getting her hair done for an event or at least during a period of time where she can't get away with hiding her hair for a couple of weeks.
A very similar thing happened to me a couple years back, a week before my senior year school photos.
I'm a woman who wears her hair shaved around the sides and back, with a quiff on top. At this point, I'd gotten the same haircut at this place for over a year.
I told her exactly what lengths I wanted and where to shave...and she still shaved right up over onto the top of my head. Once she started doing that, I had to let her finish it as to not look dumb. It left me with a tiny cow lick quiff on the front quarter of my head. Both my mum and I absolutely hated it because it was nothing like I'd asked. The hairdresser said she was "trying something new" on my hair...without asking me!
I have a feeling, since she didn't see her hair during the process, that maybe the hairdresser took some liberties without her consent. At the end of the day, it's her hair and if it makes her feel ugly, that's her right.

YES me too! I've always had long hair (well, mid-back length lol) and personally feel more comfortable & confident with it this way. I went to a hairdresser once to cut off a few inches and get some new layers since mine grew out and I left with a bob. It felt wrong, but I couldn't see the back of my head as she cut it and by the time I realized how short she'd made it, it was way too late to go back and fix it b/c my hair was gone lmao. I reacted pretty much exactly like that girl. I had asked for a style I'd gotten done *so* many times before and I left with something that made me feel awful and like I looked hideous, because the stylist just didn't listen to me and did her own thing. It took me about 3 years to grow it back to the length it had been at when she messed it up!
It's kind of sad, because people should feel beautiful regardless of their hair, but a lot of us find comfort in having our hair the way we like it b/c it makes us feel good. If someone mucks it up then it's completely understandable to be upset about it. I've been there, you've been there, I guarantee most people have been there lol. I don't judge her for being upset!

the girl doesnt hate short hair or think having it is disgusting, i think she was just stressed that it was completely different from what she wanted. having a pixie cut unexpectedly if you didnt ask for it, its scary tbh. she also said she wasnt gonna “book anything” so she might be an actress or musician? it was a cute cut but it might’ve been not what she wanted.
I think people might forget that there's a difference between having a good hair cut and having a hair cut that makes you feel good, I know my hair looked good when it was long, but it makes me feel good to have short hair. (Didn't mean for this to come across as harsh if it does, sorry if it does)

I always had long hair when I was growing up then when I was 10, I cut it short to just above my shoulders then I absolutely hated it. I never had short hair after that, I only trimmed it but now my hair is over 3 ft long. All my friends call me Rapunzel 😂😂

I was honestly surprised when my daughter cut her own hair. 9 times out of 10 when you find out your own child cut their own hair you wanna cry and rush them to a hairdresser to fix it. She literally went through multiple self cutting videos to find the best technique especially for curly hair and decided one day to do it. Side note: don’t let your kids cut their own hair, I wasn’t aware she was doing this 😅 She was at her dad’s and when I picked her up I noticed it was shorter but it looked great so I assumed his mom had taken her to get her hair done. Nope, cut it herself in the bathroom at his place while separating and layering each cut portion… She was 10 at the time. Now she’s onto makeup and she does amazing with it. This kid is going places in the beauty industry I just see it lol!
