    I can understand Kim wanting to give her kid experience in the performing arts... but an opportunity like this should be saved for a child with the requisite skill level. She wouldn’t have gotten Simba role at my school with that performance. That’s so mean offering her that role if they didn’t ensure she met an “acceptable” benchmark. It looked like no one helped with her choreography on stage. I honestly thought she was Big Bird (and didn’t recognise the song at all in an earlier short video I clicked onto without reading properly). That’s so mean. I think someone may have done that on purpose??… the voice coach and choreographer refused to help her as a protest (on behalf of the talented child or children lined up for the role). Either way she’s a little girl… that’s so mean to set her up to fail like that.

      No. She is not a toddler. She is the child of a musician and has been a public figure all her life … she and her family know exactly what a “good job/performance” is and this was not that. If this was her school play fine … but even then it was terrible. There are children her exact age and you get that work really hard at their skills and this is terrible. This is also bad because north does not need to go through life thinking she’s found really good at something when she isn’t … life is going to kick her in the teeth with that mindset. I play instruments and even as a child I knew when I wasn’t doing a good job or when I was prepared for a solo. Kids are not idiots. And her parents are also to blame for allowing her to embarrass herself for one and not teaching her that you have to work for things both the skill and the opportunity. And if she is going to be handed an opportunity her skill needs to be better.

    This is probably an unpopular opinion but I think people are allowed to critique a professional theatrical performance that they paid to attend. If this were just a mediocre/lackluster performance, I could understand ridiculing people criticing the child’s performance but it was not just a lackluster performance. If a child’s performance is never critiqued (not criticized) they will never learn and grow (in school, sports, anything). While people are allowed to critique professional productions, they are not allowed to be harsh or rude about it when it involves a child.
    The main issue in my opinion is - as a parent it’s your job to protect your children, her parents unfortunately - knowing she wasn’t ready to perform professionally as the lead performer - left her vulnerable to be criticized and bullied. And no matter what grown ups are saying about it online it won’t be nearly as bad or damaging as what her peers will be saying to her face for years to come.

    Why didn’t she play Nala? She could have been front and center, but she didn’t need to sing. My school did the Lion King, Jr. when we were North West’s age. I don’t remember Nala singing that much (just a line of dialogue in the middle of the song). She could have been front and center on stage, but the casting based on talent for Simba could’ve been implemented. I don’t see a Nala on stage. North definitely had stage presence, so Nala would’ve been perfect for her, as the song could’ve been sung by someone more capable of the role of Simba. There’s a good chance her family funded part of this, so Nala could’ve been a good compromise. North is no doubt adorable, but the singing wasn’t there. This feels very nepo baby, and it’s unfortunate because North sounds like a kind little girl. She wasn’t ready for a part like this, especially when the caliber of the other performers at this event were what they were. Also Sam is just so so sweet. The way she went about this video was so kind and thoughtful.

This is true for any occupation. The term "nepobaby" really does bother me because these things are not that unusual. That being said, the Kardashians never exibited any talent whatsoever. And, while Kanye has a successful music career, he's a rapper, not a simger. They've lost all touch with reality if they thought that North was ready for that stage. And, clearly, they don't understand the concept of developing a craft. I guess one of my castmates is friends with North. I spotted her during my second number, and I was super shocked she would come to this small production. (It's a super small theatre like 65 people, and she was in the second row) I didn't check if North was there, I was too focused on the nerves of opening night. But during our Act I finale, I saw her on her phone during the climax of the number, I was right in front of her. I get if she needed to do something, but wouldn't you just leave if you needed to text someone important? I thought it was going to be a short occurrence, like one text or something; but until almost the very end, she was still on her phone. the pre-show announcement also clearly stated to turn ANY electronic devices off and to put them away. I would totally understand if it was an emergency, but it didn't look like it.
    Unrelated but i guess this means I performed my first solo number in front of Kim K.

I understand she’s a 10 yr old but it’s extremely disrespectful to everyone involved in the production who put in so much effort -the dancers, orchestra, singers, costume designers.. and she just shows up in a yellow hoodie mindlessly singing on stage looking like she doesn’t know what she’s doing . Not to mention the people who bought the ticket to this event are also looking forward to quality performance…and the tickets are probably very expensive.
    To me she comes off as really entitled because she gets to do whatever she wants on stage without putting forth any effort
    Also, I don’t mind nepotism at all as long as they have the talent to back it up. Many of the nepos you mentioned are actually talented so I dont mind them at all. You said if you had the same connections you would take the opportunity even if you’re not that good? Do you want to embarrass yourself in front of people? You should also think if people will enjoy your performance.
    Also, North is a brat and makes a lot of mean derogatory remarks to other people including her mom. I think it would actually be a good thing if she sees these other people criticizing her on this performance to teach her a lesson and to humble her.

    I agree with you. I think that critiquing a performance is different from ridiculing it. I know most are doing the latter. I think you gave a fair critique of the performance. If North's parents want to encourage and foster her interest (if she is actually interested), then she will have to do the work and work with people to grow. There's no easy way out of it.

    There is nothing wrong for a child of famous parents to want to pursue the same careers or industries as them or for their parents to want to use their money to invest in their children's future. I mean family businesses have existed for ages. But the difference is, are they helping their child by not just giving them opportunities to star but also opportunities to learn and work their own way upwards? Naturally they will have more connections and resources but they must be used the right way. They have the money to get them good educators and workshops and that's what they should be doing. Helping them find work and roles should be secondary. Let them learn their skills and find their true passions that way and let them be kids. Make them audition wherever possible as others do, it will help their confidence greatly when they get roles because of their hard work. They should be fostering their talents and a good work ethic, not just forcing them into a random role just because you can.

    I think at the end of the day, if North was talented and performed like she belonged in this production, there would have been minimal complaints because as the video pointed out, half of the actors, models, singers etc that we see are nepo babies. Even though it’s still not right, it’s one thing to use your fame and connections to give your already talented child that edge. What happened with this was something else altogether. It’s the sheer lack of natural talent and effort. Everyone isn’t going to open their mouth and sing like Mariah Carey but you can tell when someone hasn’t even bothered to practice or take lessons to get better. It’s clear that there was no investment in voice or dance lessons. Every little kid might want to be the star of the show but as a parent, this is where you have to guide them and make the right decisions. Channel that passion into enrolling her in singing and dance lessons or a performing arts academy. She should have been taught that sometimes you can’t start at the top. If you really want something you have to put in the work. She set North up to look foolish and embarrass herself. It’s also super entitled to teach your child that they have the right to ruin the performance of all the professionals in this show and ruin the event for all the people who paid to be there that were forced to watch her have her good time. It’s bad parenting, not just making your child’s dreams come true. She could have thrown an event or a party and let North sing and dance all she wanted to just for sheer enjoyment. At the end of the day, this just hurt North. She let her humiliate herself in front of the masses. Eventually, she’s going to read people’s unfiltered opinions of her performance and how bad it was. Among her rich peers where her privilege doesn’t mean as much, I have a feeling she’s going to be made fun of for this as well.

      I have no problem with the "nepo" thing if the child exhibits actual TALENT. I mean, after all, I would expect actor parents to produce children with acting ability, and children taking up their parents' line of work seems only natural- BUT they've got to be GOOD at it! Maybe North West _could_ have been good, if she had put in the work- but clearly she put no work into that role. I've seen more talented performers in high school productions! She's no competition for Blue Ivy; not even close!

  • @kacsing
    @kacsing Місяць тому +7

    You did a very nice job of trying to be kind. But let's call it what it was uninspiring and awkwardly off. As you stared, North was put onto the position to be criticized ob her performance. But let's remember something: Kim is notorious for getting to do things she sucks at and looks at it as something funny and cute. But even when she sucks at it (her short-lived singing career), she still goes out and tries whatever her whim is. The problem isn't with Kim and / or Kanye putting the kids in whatever activity they feel like doing. The problem is that the people running this show, who carefully casted it and built the production to be something spectacular immediately cheapened it by putting a child in the most important role who is known because of her parents and clearly NOT talented as a singer. I chose not to go see it once I found out North was in it. She can't sing. She was flat, and her ability to gel with her choreography was barely acceptable for a small town production, let alone one that starred Jennifer Hudson. This was not the venue for them to allow North to try out a funny whim she had. It wasn't cute. Her costume looked ridiculous, which I blame the customers for. It looked like she outgrew it and cheapened the production even more. So, the final word? I don't blame North, I hope she had fun. But I also hope she knows that her name can only carry her so far. At some point, she's going to have to put up the talent. Right now, she doesn't have it. Not for this anyway. I've heard her rap. I'm mot a fan of rap music. However, I thought she did a much better job at that and shined much brighter in that arena than this. Sorry North. Fashionista for kids? Yes. Rapper for kids? Yes. Broadway? No. You can't have it all.

      I was just talking about the costumer! The costume was designed by someone else (Oli something?). All I could think was, imagine being a costume designer, and not being able to design for the main character, and having your name attached to it. I have experienced this in school and I was not pleased!
