    if your looking for decompression times the naval diving and salvage manual pdf/ book has charts toward the end. it is used for surface suplied diving but im sure the time would be about the same. not positive though

    hey dean i am thinking about getting a shark shield, what are your thoughts about it.

    • @fireplatoon
      @fireplatoon 10 років тому

      ***** thank you for answering my question but sorry for bothering you again i have 2 more questions. the first one is as a freediver do you feel like sharks are a threat to you. the second question is about breath hold times. i am a fifteen year old and my average breath hold is 3 minuets but i have held my breath for 4 minuets and 6 seconds. is this good for my age and what is your best breath hold time. i greatly appreciate your effort in answering my questions

    Important question:
    I am only now starting to find out that freedivers can get Decompression Sickness. Do you get headaches after repetitive dives? I had a few 20+ meter dives and then i jogged back to my room. Since then, i have been suffering from two days of non-stop headaches. I'll wait one more day to see if it gets any better and if not i'll go see a dr.
    I read a bit on the internet and some experienced divers do suffer DCS. Why hasnt anyone brought this to our attention? If this is true, then it should be taught on all freediving courses.

    FD HD, I wanted to ask your opinion if your training static tables. My max breath hold is 4m30s, when I calculate to my static tables I get a max of 3.45 to do.
    Now what do you do if at any point, let's say step 5 (out of 8) you have to get out of the breath hold. Do you just continue, do you stop the practice, or do you start over?
    Thank you

    • @freediverhd
      @freediverhd  9 років тому

      stevegorel if its and o2 table, you could try and continue where you left off. But if too much time has passed you will fail to complete the round, so start again. For c02 table, i think its best to start again, since in that table, th rest time is the most important, as it has to kept to an absolute minimum

    • @stevegorel
      @stevegorel 9 років тому

      Freediver HD thanks, it is the o2 table that sometimes offer a challenge. Not even towards the end, more in the middle around step 4/5, probably because I'm stressing that I still have a long way to go till the end of the exercise. Mostly a mental game / challenge:)

    question: how do you breath up with a snorkel? You can't really pack or is there a way?

    • @jony1495
      @jony1495 10 років тому

      thanks for the response ... I find it easier to equalize to be honest. I get problems after a certain depht. Packing seems to make it easier.

    how strong of a swimmer do you have to be

    • @freediverhd
      @freediverhd  8 років тому +5

      average. if you are comfortable in water, that should be enough. Long fins will power you through most conditions, so no need be a good swimmer in the traditional sense.

      Cool! So you've dived like everywhere around Taiwan?
      Btw, I'm Awha, a scuba diver recently thinking about starting to freedive.

    • @freediverhd
      @freediverhd  9 років тому +1

      +Awha Chen I have dived a few places... you can check out "Freediving Taiwan - Green Island" which was a video which went kinda varial in Taiwan back in early 2012. That video is the one that really got my channel started. Also another video "You are not forgotten | HD Xtra " is a video about the first freediving death in Taiwan, its filmed at orchid island. See you in the water some time!

      +Freediver HD I think I've heard about the accident you mentioned. I'm living in Orchid Island actually.

      ***** you can release youre breath in the last meter. However, personally I do not since I am diving in open oceans conditions I dont want to risk taking a mouth full of water from a wave of something once I surface - so i exhale on the surface.

    If SCUBA divers get OT (oxygen toxicity) at 197 feet , why don't free divers when they go to 200 plus feet ?

    • @Jakelol1980
      @Jakelol1980 8 років тому +3

      Spencer Boaz Because they dont inhale any O2 after diving down and the O2 gets used up.

    • @danielsimchuk7562
      @danielsimchuk7562 6 років тому +1

      Spencer Boaz because you don’t use PRESSURIZED O2 when you free dive, the pressurized O2 is what kills you at the surface and how people get bends, you inhale regular air at the service and exhale the same air when you return, no difference in pressure
