POV: it’s 2014, you’re a child and this was a scary experience to you, you treasured this moment even when you failed to defeat the first phase of this boss. Your 3DS is low on battery and it’s nightime. Dinner is ready and you refuse to go while you’re playing. You’ve failed and have gotten sweaty hands. You refuse to play face raiders for the rest of the day, charge your 3DS for tomorrow, and go down for dinner
What I find fascinating is the choice of musical style the chose here. It’s very baroque and fugue-like, especially in the beginning with the electric organ, maintaining the same tonality as it _smoothly_ transitions to a the familiar clavinet and Synth Instrument group that Face Raiders is known for. Gives the same feeling as Ultimate Koopa from Super Mario 64.
The Red Alert blares. And suddenly luminating into your screen was the light reflecting off the hexagonal panels of the Boss’s shell from the vortex. It approaches you and halts in front of your screen. Behind it, your damaged surroundings. In shock that this is it, you helplessly begin popping your tennis balls at it, but to no avail! Its mechanical parts begin shifting, and the crystals emerge from its shell. You then wonder what’s going on. But while you wonder, it is already too late. By the time the cannon’s rise from the shell pointed towards the crystals, and you possibly realize what’s about to happen, it’s already happened. Hummmm Bling Bling *ZAP!* The first beam refracts from the crystals and hits you! You begin shooting your ammo again, still to no avail. But then it happens. One of the balls spins around the crystals back towards your opponent. It fires the second laser, but this time it bounces back into itself, damaging its shell. The crystal flips back outwards, putting you at risk once more. You frantically begin aiming for the crystals again. The beam is charging up. It fires! It goes in the opposite direction of what you’ve expected! *ZAP!!* You see your health meter jump downwards. No butterflies in sight. The alarm on the meter sounds and it flashes red. *ZAP!!* You were too busy looking at the meter to notice the next attack! It was getting lower. No… you had made it this far. Past the tutorial, Stage 1, Stage 2… and 3 as well. But now, you watch as your surroundings are invaded? You will not have this. You won’t go down without a fight! The final beam powers up; red sparks flashing from the cannon. You carefully aim your target. One crystal. Then the one above and below it. Bling Bling *BAM!* Another damage to the Boss’s shell. You fire so hard, you almost break the buttons on the 3DS. But this wasn’t over yet. One more laser would determine your life. This was everything you’d trained for. Snapping photos of your sibling’s face, maybe even random surfaces and textures to shoot at. Screw school! This is the real meaning of success in life! You shoot one crystal. The second… … you were too slow. The laser burns through your screen. *CRACK!!* The screen goes red and dark, your meter empty. The Boss laughing. Game Over! But then you exit to the home screen, scroll all the way down to the right… SURPRISE!!! DINOSAUR OFFICE!!! RAWR!!!!
