I want to point out that the Evil Queen being able to cast a spell through the mirror was not a plot hole it was just not clearly explained. In the books it is heavily hinted that somehow the Evil Queen is finding ways to slowly weaken the magic of the mirror prison. Raven even remarks that her mom got a change of clothes and hair dye which she shouldn’t have been able to get inside the mirror prison. Then in one of the Shannon Hale books she almost tricks Raven and Apple into using a spell to break her out of mirror prison. They realized and stop the evil Queen, but perhaps there was some lingering magic that further broke down the security of the mirror prison. Then in Way too Wonderland we see her knock a book off shelf to interfere with the story. It is not until Dragon Games when presumably the mirror prison has become even weaker that she is able to make an apple levitate to get Apple to break her out.
Yeah the EAH books by Shannon Hale were actually pretty good. I actually enjoyed it a lot. It added and gave context to the things in the show but not too much that following the story with the show alone was impossible. EAH books are tv show books done right ❤🎉👍
@@childeofepicknessead them. First one is an alternate take on the first season (there’s hints that the webisodes still go down), the second involves Maddie getting framed for a crime she didn’t commit due to Royal-Rebel squabbling going out of control at the worst possible time and place (a desperate Raven and Apple seek the Evil Queen for a way to clear her name), and the third book stars the Wonderland characters (well, the pre-Way Too Wonderland ones) as the ramifications of the second book lead to the Jabberwocky invading Ever After High and trying to terraform it into a new Wonderland. All solid reads.
What's really sad about Ever After High is that there was a planned crossover with Monster High that was written as a book and we even saw Frankie, Draculaura, and Clawdeen react to voiced animatics. But because of the cancellation of Ever After High and the upcoming Monster High reboot at the time, the movie was cancelled when it was 75% done
It's ridiculously good writing. I remember being confused seeing Darling kiss Apple; I was wondering, if Darling is Apple's fated Charming, then what was the point for Daring to be there? And then they filled him in perfectly with a "redemption"/development arc as the Beast, JUST like the tale itself? Like goodness gracious, maybe it shouldn't have stunned me that badly (I mean, I was 11), but seeing it all fit in like a puzzle piece shooked me.
15:59 Actually I’m pretty sure Ramona is Cerise’s full older sister. It always confused me because she didn’t show up in the Cerise family picnic episode but it was mentioned she was banished to a different school before she first appeared so that could’ve been where she was.
Probably she was banished on a boarding school thats why she wasn't seen in the picnic episode and yes i do believe that Ramona and Cerise are full sisters because if Ramona was from a different mother (assuming she lived with hed) then how would they got to know very deep like siblings fight also i think Ramona is upset that she was the wolf in the story of red riding hood which probably don't want to do it on her sister
Exactly! She took her Dad's name because she was born first and was happy to take on his Destiny but Cerise was born second so she took on her Mother's destiny and was therefore a Hood rather than a Wolf
Also if she was the half-sister it kind of ruins Cerise/Red Riding hood/Big bad wolfs story. Their whole thing is she (red) fell in love with her villain and they decide to have a life together to the point they have picnics together behind others backs. But if it just turned out that red riding hood was just another fling/baby momma than it ruiins the whole forbidden love cause big bad also loved someone else and had a kid with them. Also not very fairytale to have multiple baby momma's. As for their last name i just assumed that's how it worked with multiple destiny children. Like say Briar and Hopper have a kid. Their daughter would be _______ beauty as she's following Briars stkry and their son _________croakington as he's following Hoppers. So for Ramona as her destiny isn't really gender specific she got her dads destiny by virtue of being the oldest so was called Ramona badwolf whilst Cerise got her mums so she got her mums last name. Or it could also be a way to keep up the secret. Ramona would be shown to the public as big bads daughter so had to take his name. Cerise would be shown to the public as reds daughter so had to take her mums name to keep up the illusion
Honestly I think a EAH reboot is the only way they can go. They really painted themselves in a corner ending the rebels v. royals and Evil Queen plots so if they want to make more content, they'll have to start from scratch.
@@Tundrea3 Oh yeah 100% agree. Like make Darling discover she wants to be a boy and have her be trans while she's dating Apple and Apple being like "Yo that's dope go for it"...brb got fanfic to write.
@@Quite_Frankie No, having Darling be trans goes against what Darling stood for, the girls aren't just princesses and damsels in distress. They can be knights too, and even the dashing stranger who saves another princess. Making her trans, means... she's a boy who is a knight. Trans adjective doesn't stop him from being just another male knight. Darling adores her femininity, being a girl who breaks her family's traditions.
@@ambidreaming Fair point. I just thought it would be nice to have a trans knight in shining armor, especially when trans people are being vilified right now. And this is bit is just for fun but the new name I thought of for Darling was Dashing.
also, from what i understand, there are several Charming families in Ever After. Daring, Dexter and Darling are all from the "big" one, but there are apparently several other branches of Charmings that produce mostly princes for different fairytales. I don't know if this is actually true but I saw it in a youtube video so I'm going with it
@@owo4983 i think it's in the family tree episode, Blondie branches out, where they mention that there are several Charming families that aren't at all related
@@ConvenientlyShapedUsername It's because it's flash animation. The characters are animated using a rig, meaning animators don't have to re-draw the complicated designs in every frame.
There were maybe two things I really liked: Dappling for the representation though I love Rapple a bit more, and Apple going through a lot of character development by understanding how it feels like to have to do something you really don't want to and not having a choice in the matter. Sure Apple did have the choice of confessing what she did, but knowing her need to be perfect because yay childhood expectations, that wasn't going to happen without some pressure.
Dappling was one of the first queer representations i saw in media as a kid and its so special because of that and the reason i believe wholeheartedly representation matters
I'm asking out of curiosity, hypothetically how would the Rapple ship work canonically? I know the ship is a bit popular but I don't really understand how it works.
@@Luigi-3000 Most of of the show's conflict, though not all of it, is a struggle between societal norms and doing what you are told verses developing your own opinions and ideas of how the world works. The struggle created in Apple whether internally over self-hatred or externally through friends and family's acceptance in combination with how physically affectionate Apple is with everyone but especially Raven gives fans a forbidden (which is always fun I'm looking at you Eros and Psyche) yet, with Raven's apathy toward the norms, hopeful relationship. With regards to the canon, when do shippers ever care about the canon when it tries to kill their favorite couple or polygamous relationships? For example, SwanQueen, SuperCorp, and Sashannarcy. I'm kidding of course, but for the sake of canonicity, this ship probably became popular around mid-season 2 before Dappling and when Daring Charming was seen with and a potential love interest to Lizzie Hearts which gave an easy storyline without heartbreak for Daring fans. And who said that Darling had to be a third wheel? Communication and consent are key after all. Of course, your opinion is valid and you believe whatever you believe is yours to hold. I've had enough idiots try to tell me what to do even when I supported their cause. Have a fantastic day.
“but i’m not watching the show for realism therefore it gets a strike” YES!!! omg so many people go on AND ON about how realism makes the best shows but it’s good to have shows that are just made to be fun and sell toys. that’s literally how we got a majority of our cartoons!
13:20 I'd like to point out that the reason Darling's kiss worked on Apple but Daring's didn't was explained by rosabella in Epic winter she said that apple's true love was going to be someone who was brave, nice and selfless, Which at the time Daring was not. Darling however, fit all the traits- so i think that's why her kissed was able to wake apple. Daring js didn't pass as an actual prince charming
It would’ve been great if Dexter Charming went through an arc that would’ve allowed for him to become more brave, especially since he’s also nice & selfless then he would’ve fit the bill, plus it would’ve been a great reversal because Dexter was always somewhat jealous of Daring’s ability to impress any girl, basically making Daring less confident than he used to be once he realized that the kiss didn’t work and making Dexter the more confident one while also keeping his modesty so his newfound confidence doesn’t go to his head too much so in a way he basically becomes like a better version of Daring, and when Dexter decides to kiss Apple, they decide to become a couple and turn out to be happier together than they might’ve originally thought they would, and then at some point Raven gets together with Daring to complete the reversal scenario, maybe this comment isn’t as well pieced together as it could’ve been mostly because of my racing thoughts about this but hopefully you get my point, I just think this would’ve been a great way to end the show.
It is with Rampant Fervosity that I say Daring was the best thing in Epic Winter. His arc was really nice to see and the awkwardness with Apple felt genuine and nice to see as well as him defaulting to his vanity as a way to cope with the panic of not being Apple's Prince Charming.
I also agree that Epic Winter wasn’t a great season and it was even a worse ending special. I like SOME of the things they had in there like Apple and Daring’s awkwardness after what went down in Dragon Games- that seemed natural and Rosabella and Daring were cute. And Daring’s arc as well. But other than that I can’t really think of anything that really stood out to me. It was all pretty… okay. Just kinda okay or bad.
I love how Negative Legend totally didn't mention that the shadow high book was the book version of the Lost Moive, which was going to be a Monster High/Ever After High Crossover. But they did a book instead. On a different Note Cerise and Ramona are full sisters, they're both the daughters of Little Red Riding Hood and the Badwolf. Just Romana is older thus Badwolf Destiny and Cerise is younger thus Red Riding Hood. Daring, Dexter and Darling are all Siblings though. Daring is litteraly 9 months older then Dexter and Darling who are twins, and they're birthdays all land in that way where they go to the same grade togehter. As for relations, it was said in the webisodes that all the charming lines are not related, so Apple and Daring, and by extension Raven & Dexter aren't related. Fun Fact Apple & Raven aren't related in the series but are in the books.(Good King is Snow Whites and Raven's Dad, yup)
@@cova_exists yep they were very busy but im more shocked with the part where apple and raven are related, wait if the good king is the father of snow white and raven, which means the evil queen had a baby with snow whites dad what are apple and raven to each other, because ravens dad is apples grandad according to the comment
@tasmiamuhuri It's not that confusing. Raven & Snow White are both half-sisters & step-sisters. Thus the daughter of your sister, is your niece. Thus Apple is Raven's Half-Neice & Step-Neice. While Raven is Apple's Half-Aunt & Step-Aunt. Also they're moms are the actual Snow White & Evil Queen.
@cova_exists I always assume that the twins were born early, since that's common with twins & multiples irl. I assume when Daring was like 1 - 2 months old their mom got pregnant, then had Darling & Dexter 7-8 months later.
To answer the question about how Darling and Daring are related, it’s mentioned that Darling and Dexter are fraternal twins (heyy ive got a twin bro too :D) which is why she’s younger than him. Darling and Dexter’s personalities being different is also really cute >w< !!
Omg, the Storybook of Legends was my absolute childhood! I read it over and over! The way they fleshed out the characters was delicious, and the book and pages were so beautiful!
kids books in general are soo seriously underrated. i worked in preschools for a while and the new big book series here in my country is called "mickey and helium" about two mice siblings that are transported to another world where they're lost royalty and go on quests and such, pretty standard fantasy setting. we used to read one chapter a day at the school i was at, and when i tell you i was more invested in the story than the kids sometimes
I forgot literally everything about the epic winter episodes lol, I thought they came before the dragons games cause the dragons games felt like more of an ending
This show can try and say Darling gave Apple only mouth-to-mouth all they want. I know I love the idea that Darling is Apple's true love and that's the canon I'm sticking with
Just checked AO3, Darling Charming and Apple White is the most popular ship for EEH with 235 works, with Apple White and Raven Queen as number two with 169 works.
How popular is the ship for Apple & Dexter just out of curiosity? As well as Raven & Daring? I’m guessing not very popular sadly, I’ve never checked out AO3 whatever that is, so I wouldn’t know how popular they are, I just don’t see these potentially interesting great alternatives getting talked about when I feel like they should.
I really liked how the book expanded on the "what happens if I reject my destiny?" question. The show really makes it clear that Raven's side is the "right" choice and Apple kind of comes across as a selfish jerk. The show tries to give Apple's side an angle by making her afraid of what will happen to the people she loves, including Raven, but it's just not enough. "Dragon Games" is arguably the best special of EAH. I can't help loving the dynamics of Snow and Apple, and Raven and the Evil Queen, and then Apple and Raven. I love the armor fashion. I'm down with Apple being saved by her Princess Charming. "Epic Winter" was . . . . ok. I do like how they used the evil mirror dust from "Dragon Games" and weave it into the original Snow Queen story (where a mirror made by the devil shatters into a thousand pieces and a boy Kai gets shards in his eye and his heart which turns him into a compete jerk.) Rosabella's story was nice too but I never really cared about the spotlighted characters much so I was much less invested.
My issue with the new characters like fairy good fairy and snow queen girl is that up till now. EVERY SINGLE ever after high character has a unique personality that makes them interesting. It's probably not the characters fault cause they didn't get any time to develop but they still feel just...there. Also the snow girl, the fairy girl, the mermaid girl, they all kinda....look the same. U can sum each one up to 2 primary qualities. Misunderstood and Kind. that's it.
They are so much fleshed out in the books. The show just didn't had time to flesh out these characters. Luckily they have released audio books, so at least i got more ever after high content
IDEA FOR A NEW SPECIAL A few years after graduation, most of the characters are lost in life. Darling is off fighting battles, which leaves Apple to rule her kingdom alone and without any help, while her subjects still adore and compare her to her mother. Raven's music career is not taking off, and her relationship with Dexter faces problems as he also doesn't know yet where he's headed. Briar is dealing with her parents and brothers who don't agree with her choice to not sleep 100 years and her sole comfort is her cousin Rosabella, Daring, Hunter and Ashlynn, who are environmentalists fighting against animal cruelty which is very difficult in the fairytale world. Hilariously, Blondie Lockes is forced to spill the tea on all her former friends in her webshow "Just Right". Suddenly, a young witch student shows at Ever After High and curses her fellow students to follow their destinies, a Royal extremist. Moreover, she curses Holly & Poppy O'Hair and locks them in a tower. All the old students are called to help their friends but the path to the O'Hair's tower is treacherous and tries to seduce each of them who haven't already into fulfilling their destiny (Raven, hunter, Ashlynn, Briar) It is revealed that the witch's spell over Ever After and the O'Hair's can only be broken after a 100 years, when all of their stories will have ended. Except Briar, if she chooses to...skip to that part of her story... Only after refusing and Dexter climbing the tower and saving the O'Hair twins, Briar finds out that her family worked together with the young witch...
Also you should talk about the lost eah and monster high crossover special because that is likely what was supposed to come after Dragon Games and that is why the last season is such a wreck!
okay i totally get that the rosabella and daring beauty and the beast thing was SO obvious but i didnt care when i first watched it and i still dont. I ATE. THAT SHIT UP THEYR SO CUTE😭😭
@Kazzie Bolaños oops, i posted that like two days before the video premeired. i meant because i saw the video on my feed but i was going to have to wait two more days to see it. sorry for the confusion
Regarding the Shannon Hale Books, I was really surprised how much I ended up enjoying Raven and Dexter's scenes together. Which is surprising given how much I wasn't a fan of Dexter when watching the webisodes. I don't know if it's just how Shannon writes them or they're just given more time to interact normally before Dexter gets all puppy-love towards Raven. I also love the Maddie chapters where she talks to the narrator. How the font changes when it's Maddie talking and how the formatting and design of the pages changes to reflect how it's from Maddie's "perspective". edit: Rampant Virvousity
Btw, in the video it is mentioned about snow white and her king, and about the relation to the charmings (eg daring). It is mentioned by Dexter and Daring during a webisode (I believe it's called Blondie branching out) where they mention that there are multiple families with the last name charming and they are not related to them. Perhaps Snow White married a king from one of these families?
It still brings up a kind of weird issue with the original plan of having your kid "follow in your steps" - if you married someone, your kids can only follow one of their parent's stories, and some other person's kid is picked to complete the other love interest's part of the story. If Apple had a brother, does he just not have a destiny? Or do they assume he'll fit into some princess' story at some point, because they seemed pretty sure Daring would definitely be with Apple even though it apparently could be any Charming/anyone. It just makes Daring's certainty in the first season about his destiny seem kinda odd, since it seems like it was just a guess which story he might belong to and wasn't him following his dad's story.
@@morley364 The Charmings is the one family(ies) that doesn't abide by the "Following your parent's footsteps" rule. Essentially, the story book of legends sorts them out into who is gonna hook up with who. Like you know the fairy tales that are like "Here is Sleeping Beauty and her prince charming", that prince charming is 'randomly' selected into that role. The reason Daring was thought to be Apple's prince charming was because he was the best Charming and Snow White's story was the biggest at the time. I think in one of the stories, King and Queen Charming were talking about how Dexter might be the next beast. The Charming thing is certainly to prevent incest.
I really enjoyed the deep dive vids! EAH holds a special place in my heart because I never grew up with fairytales. It filled a gap in my childhood and I will miss the series. Glad that it's getting a bit more spotlight and hopefully this brings more traction to get the series back 😭
i immensely appreciate these videos, not only for being fun on their own, but for alerting me to all the EAH content i missed by only watching on netflix. this shit's stupidly hard to track down !! i watched the "big bad secret" episode and it made me smile the whole way through. i honestly love slice of life episodes in this series, and i'm glad there were more! edit: also, the word you're looking for is "fervor." rampant fervor. with that said, fervocity rules
I ain’t holding out hope for EAH continuing or even getting a reboot in the near future. Between Disney’s Descendants and never reaching Monster High success, the show’s bleak future was apparent. A dang shame. This was a fun series, that, even though parts were fumbled, had some great moments and fun characters. And even though it didn’t get a proper finale, be it books or random webisodes, there’s plenty of material for people to come to their own conclusions, even if things remain open ended.
Yea the marriage thing doesn't make a lot of since but in one of the episodes, I believe it's in season 2, it's explained that there are different families with the last name Charming and are not related to each other. So the Prince Charming of Snow White is not the same as the Prince Charming of Cinderella.
I remember when Epic Winter came out, I was like “okay, that was a nice in between kind of special, wonder when the next real special is coming out” But that was it. That was “the end” of Ever After High. Extremely underwhelming.
If you guys think but it's creepy that during is dating Apple remember that one episode where Blondie didn't want to talk about herself because she wasn't actually Royal well in that episode we learned that there are a bunch of unrelated Charming's so that explains how daring is not Apple's brother
I'm just staring at your Chat Noir shirt because I've been a bit obsessed with PV Felix this week and find this a very weird coincidence. Seriously though I love PV Felix's character concept.
"Tinker Bell is Disney". No honey, Tinker bell is a fictional character from a novel and play written by J. M. Barrie's in 1904 and 1911. Disney wasn't even the first to make a Peter Pan movie.
True, but he's still kinda right since you can't just use the name and cartoon likeness of tinkerbell last i remember it belongs with a toy selling company and the name to a hospital
I think that the Epic Winter story line was loosely based of the fairytale of the Snow Queen in which a mirror that shows only the worst parts of you breaks and it gets stuck in a boy eye and heart causing his once cheerful personality to shift to a cold icy one this is also the story that disney VERY LOOSELY based frozen on i highly suggest reading it or watching the overly sarcastic productions video on it
You know will be a good way to actually have Raven in epic winter is to have the whole castle be her castle because in the fall everything sort of kind of decays so it would kind of make sense for the fall Castle to belong to the Evil Queen
RAMPANT VIRVOCITY If a reboot/revival of EAH comes, I hope it actually gives more good sides of the Royals' stance. My biggest gripe with EAH is that everything in the series favors the Rebels' cause too much. It makes the Royals look evil by comparison. Furthermore it makes villains like Faybelle who actually want to follow their destinies more likely to just switch to the good side just because someone helped her with self esteem issues or something like that. By the end everyone is basically a rebel now and barely any Royals are acknowledged. I want more expansions this topic like a character who fears the loss of a tradition or someone who is more determined to make sacrifices to fit the mould. I want actual action taken to glorify the traditional tales instead of lip service that a child would ignore.
From what I can remember from the books Apple is the daughter of a Prince Charming who is from a different line of Charmings to the line that Daring and the others come from.
honestly, i wish there could be a Good ever after high reboot. things like making Actually apple wlw and coming to terms with that would have so much thematic and symbolic meaning, if raven and dexter's relationship or even dexter and cupid's was more fleshed out (if they didn't drop cupid as a character lol.), if lizzie and daring's dynamic was more fleshed out as people who both aspire to be like their king/queen parents... so many ideas and implied storylines were there they just never got the chance to be fleshed out
I'm a big supporter of Selfor's "A Semi-Charming Kind of Life." The relationship between the twins, Dexter and Darling, is fabulous. The level of affection, understanding and mutual support between two people who don't fit the family profile is, pardon the expression, Charming. The fun part of the series is that the Evil Queen actually gets almost everything she wanted. Raven accepts her powers, learns to be devious and manipulative (to defeat the Queen, but still) and eventually signs her page in the Book of Destiny.
I loved ever after high, I've always liked fairytales a lot, and seeing it all go down in quality and just kind of collapse near the end was sad. But like you said at the end of the video, the monster high reboot is giving me a bit of hope for a possible eah reboot. I would be very curious to see how they'd go about it
20:41 Tinkerbell may be Disney's mascot, but she is a part of a fantasy book that came out 50+ years before Disney made the Peter Pan movie. So your Tinkerbell joke is valid. Also fun fact about Peter Pan: in many movies and plays, the actor that plays Mr. darling, would also Play Captain Hook. (Symbolism) It was like an old, long standing tradition.
incredibly ready for a reboot season that's solely focused on Apple and Darling/Dexter and raven because we all know that's exactly what it's gonna be!!
My theory as of why Darling managed to remove the curse is because she's simply worthy(being the most chivalrous of the Charmings), Daring is a vain Chad & Dexter is an awkward nerd. Also, the Charming family is one of the biggest family in EAH world as Apple commented when Darling talks about her family tree as a class assignment. I doubt EAH will get a reboot since rumor has it that that's what caused Mattel to lose the Disney Princess license AND Disney creating the Descendants. And now that Mattel finally got the license back I don't think they'll take any chances. P. S. Enchantimals is still going to this day, I guess kids find them cute & it's very affordable.
the reason apple backpedals and goes back on her development is because she has the pressure of 3 adults to be perfect, the next snow white, and to get raven on the evil path. it is too much to handle so she reverts.
12:52 Daring actually isn't related to Apple (how weird would that be lol). It's mentioned in the family tree webisode that Dexter and Daring come from a separate Charming family. So Apple's dad is still a Charming, they're just different families.
26:52 - We got two actually, they just try not to count the Generation 2 canon because Mattel actively and ardently did everything humanly possible to not call that version of Monster High a reboot. Nevermind the brand new origin for the school (Draculara puppy dog eyed Dracula into making their home the school), palpable absence of old fan favorite mainstays (Ghoulia and Clawd especially), the sudden shift to be more action-packed than before (MH was never a stranger to the odd altercation, like Frankie zapping a treasure hoarding kraken, but we never had choreographed crowd fights till Welcome to Monster High), shifts in personality for the characters that did make it over (namely Frankie being a snarky tech wiz while characters like Cleo and Toralei notably lost a lot of their old edge from G1), and brazen continuity clashes with the previous canon (namely G2 starting with Draculara’s 1600th birthday while G1 dedicated a movie special to it, aka Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?).
I've been a HUGE fan of EAH for years and I really enjoyed your reviews of it! I own most of the books too :) Such a super fun show that got me to fall back in love with classic fairy tales 💖 I remember I made an oc too back in middle school lol 😂
omg literally if ur willing to share i would love to hear anything and everything abt ur EAH oc !! i understand if u don't want to (i know most of my middle school ocs were poorly written lol), but i'm so intrigued by the idea of an EAH oc
@@plushdragonteddy omg thank you!! I look back on her fondly despite how goofy the oc is lol 😆 Basically I made a story where the How to Train Your Dragon franchise was actually a fairy tale (so EAH x httyd crossover oc is more accurate then lol) I was an even bigger fan of httyd and dragons in general was one of my biggest hyperfixations that lasted the majority of my childhood. I still am a dragon nerd but not to the same extent. ANYWAYS the oc, idk exactly what her name was but she was Hiccup and Astrid's kid and the "princess of dragons/dragon master" (I think I was in 4th grade when I made her lmao) and her destiny was to protect dragons and keep the peace between dragons and humans I think. And she was a rebel despite liking her destiny, she just wants her friends to have free will and wants them to be happy so she chose the rebel side. If I recall correctly I was going through my "boys are gross >:(" phase and so she was the strong independent woman who didn't need any man (honestly slay) but the boys still liked her?? 😂 Fr have no idea where that logic came from but oh well I was a small child. Other than that I really can't remember much about her backstory, she was a badass warrior girl who loved dragons and had a pet dragon but I can't remember what kind it was. I'm still very fond of her and recently made a new httyd oc inspired by that old oc. Idk why I chose to make httyd a fairy tale but I probably just thought all the other fairy tales were taken XD Good times
@@plushdragonteddyMaybe I'll remake her someday 🤔 I can take out the httyd aspect and just have it be a completely new fairy tale. And she'd absolutely be queer because she did give off those vibes despite me not realizing I was queer back then

And the fact that it's turned queer is even better lol! 😂 Thank you for taking interest in my oc too! It really brightened my day /gen
I think there was a short before Epic Winter where we meet Crystal. I think Apple and Maddie go there for a school project or something? I remember Jackie making Maddie count snowflakes for them.
I kinda want to see Mattel do a reboot as a sequel for Ever After High, something that's the opposite of Monster High generations. Instead of updating and redefining the original cast to fit modern age kids, there could be some interesting exploration in how the movements and status quo endured by a parent may have drastically evolved by the time their kid grows up. Royals and Rebels, while a central gimmick, got dumped rather fast in the narrative, so how would, for example, a child of Raven engage with this dynamic? Would the children of the good-aligned rebels be royals, or would there be even more discontent with living through a status quo?
rampant fervocity (it’s not a word :c) now i have to read the books bc i honestly miss eah so much, but this was such a fun series and if that reboot ever does happen, i look forward to your videos on it!
I hope they reboot it but they drive in the Rebel v Royal thing, keep Apple's hardheadedness, and one notable change I'd make is that Rosabella and Briar are the super distant cousins, while Cerise and Sparrow are first cousins, with Cerise's mom and Sparrow's dad being siblings. Because it should be impossible for Rosabella and Briar to be first cousins based on the 100 year sleep thing. Sleeping Beauty is actually one huge plot snare the series never addressed. Supposedly Raven's mom cursed Briar's mom, according to Faybelle. Which is impossible if she slept for 100 years. It'd make more sense if Raven's mom cursed BRIAR before Faybelle's mom could, and if Faybelle, like some other characters, doubles as the evil fairy in another story.
In some version tje old woman using the spinwhell is the fairy in disguise, Raven's mom maybe stole the dark fairy's destiny by being the one that presented the spinwhell to the Sleeping Beauty, it would have make the Sleeping Beaut's sleep last only for some mounts
Got to meet Shannon Hale and I got the 4 main books signed by her. She talked about the process of how she got involved with the series. Can confirm that she was writing the story with only a glimpse of the dolls and a few story points. But she wrote majority of the story on her own. So Ever After High as we know it wouldn't be the same without Shannon Hale. She was a really cool lady and I'm glad I got to meet her. Got a note written from Maddie >:3
The Dapple reveal was what made me go from "tentative interest" to "omgomg give me more of this please", but thinking about it a little more, I'm starting to worry that their intention with that was to give Apple a way to "rebel against her destiny" in the end for cool points but still end up with Daring, because they made him not-her-destiny and thus the newly transgressive choice. That'd be a really odd arc to play to with your only hint of a wlw ship, framing IT as the oppressive convention to break free from, but...man. I can't take it in perfectly good faith. Waiting with RAMPANT FERVOSITY (I think the word you're looking for is "fervor" but fervosity sounds cooler) for whatever happens next with EAH, though! It might be the one show to benefit from a Woke Girlboss Reboot(tm) because well- they're already pretty girlboss but I think it might be an excuse to make the wlw ship actual endgame.
I never watched Ever after high but I love your video essays so much, they are fun and interesting, I hope you can monetize these episodes and thanks for making great content!!
There was a planned crossover special between Ever After High and Monster High as was hinted at with Astranova contacting Raven and Apple in the movie "Boo York, Boo York", along with the Monster High channel uploading shorts of Clawdeen and Draculaura viewing animatics as a sneak peek. However due to the Gen 2 reboot and Ever After High being canceled (or hiatus as Mattel claims...) the project was shelved but the crossover was later brought back as a book by Shannon Hale. I've watched the animatics including looking up a planned kumiho character on the wiki and it was interesting...at least the book did it justice by having the characters from both franchises meet to stop the Evil Queen's latest scheme
I rewatched the whole series with my friend, and apparently, after Daring saves Faybelle from debt, the mob faires leaves by doing Sailor Moon poses, which I didn’t remember happened until then!
You know that like episode where Blondie fakes being sick like you only said like they're like a bunch of unrelated Charming's so basically Apple's father is not darrings father because there are bunch of unrelated Charming's
18:18 fun fact! In the original Snow Queen story, there was an evil mirror dust that affected some of the characters and made them "evil", so using dust for the Evil Queen's mirror is a really fun play on that :)
in Monster high G3 there is an episode plot where CA cupid was to return with a whole new name but with her similar monster high design . in the plot it explained that she used to live in anther world that ended up getting destroyed so she decided to transfer to monster high sad emoji. G3 monster high basically ruined any hope of a ever after high comeback to happen. oh well
19:32 it would’ve been AMAZING if Jackie and north’s reason of wanting to control winter was a heritage thing: Jack Frost used to control winter, and that was taken away from him, and now they want the power to control winter back into their family to honor their father and family. This could’ve also been a great thing to sneak in the plot of those students that DID want their destinies/ the heritage they had from their parents and that now feel robbed and lost about what to do with their lives
2:54 - Even so, events from the Book 1 Webisodes were implied to have taken place in Shannon Hale’s book continuity more or less as they did in web shorts. I definitely recall that book having an offhand mention of Apple and Maddie being co-presidents for the student body.
When they do choose to reboot Ever After High, hopefully things won't go too far Also, awesome deep dive into EAH, I've been going back to this series since I missed watching the show and the way you explained each part is a gift in it of itself 💙
6:32 I always thought of the weird but stupidly smart rule where if someone evil is contained in an object (example here a mirror) that even if the evil queen were to try and break herself out of the mirror the magic put into place wouldn’t allow her to do so like shaking the mirror, using objects to break the mirror etc. and she’d need someone of their own free will to set her free, but like who would you know…. Unless you’re apple
They could have so easily had apple replace the booking glass and give the evil queen a fake which would a) make more sense, as her mother would trust her and she already told the evil queen about it and b) show that while apple is still against the evil queen, and that freeing the evil queen was an impulsive decision and the evil queen was blackmailing her, she is still willing to cut some corners to get her promised destiny.
As someone who grew up with EAH and still loves the characters, I really wish that Mattel gave it more love than they did. Even though I lost interest pretty early on (I was already a teenager by the time the movies started coming out), it saddens me that a story concept with so much potential was pretty much squashed by Disney (and yes, when Descendants came out I was adamant that they were ripping off EAH). I wish they would try and do something with the series again, especially with the Monster High reboot starting to find its footing. I'm kind of curious as to the direction they could take if they tried to do a show targeted towards their older fans as well, as I'm sure Mattel is well aware of the teen and adult fanbases

Now I wanna read the books…
Please do! They’re quite well written!

But because of the cancellation of Ever After High and the upcoming Monster High reboot at the time, the movie was cancelled when it was 75% done

same here. i just wish we could’ve figured out who dexter was supposed to be
In the EAH books Raven's dad it's an actual character called the Good King, it was heavily hinted that Dexter was meant to be the next Good King
@@maenrestwicsaus4566 That's kinda romantic 😂
such a good subversion
And there is no Ramona on their family portrait.
@@Анна-н2п7у It;s just a therey but i think ramona took the pitch in cerise locket as it would rewen the secret if they had a perfesnal do it
Honestly I think a EAH reboot is the only way they can go. They really painted themselves in a corner ending the rebels v. royals and Evil Queen plots so if they want to make more content, they'll have to start from scratch.
And hopefully have better diversity
@@Tundrea3 Oh yeah 100% agree. Like make Darling discover she wants to be a boy and have her be trans while she's dating Apple and Apple being like "Yo that's dope go for it"...brb got fanfic to write.
@@Quite_Frankie No, having Darling be trans goes against what Darling stood for, the girls aren't just princesses and damsels in distress. They can be knights too, and even the dashing stranger who saves another princess. Making her trans, means... she's a boy who is a knight. Even as a kid I was so amazed by how they managed to animate full episodes of such complicated character designs, and good ones at that!
@@Luigi-3000 what’s there not to understand?

I'd like to point out that the reason Darling's kiss worked on Apple but Daring's didn't was explained by rosabella in Epic winter she said that apple's true love was going to be someone who was brave, nice and selfless, Which at the time Daring was not.
Pretty sure I would watch Epic Winter again just for Daring and Rosabella

Misunderstood and Kind. that's it.

IDEA FOR A NEW SPECIAL
A few years after graduation, most of the characters are lost in life.

I remember when Epic Winter came out, I was like “okay, that was a nice in between kind of special, wonder when the next real special is coming out”
But that was it.
“Princesses stay strapped” I HOLLERED 21:28
I loved dragon games, but only because of the idea of dragons lol, didn’t really love the ending
25:00 "Epic Winter was not so epic!" 😂
RAMPANT VIRVOCITY
If a reboot/revival of EAH comes, I hope it actually gives more good sides of the Royals' stance.
From what I can remember from the books Apple is the daughter of a Prince Charming who is from a different line of Charmings to the line that Daring and the others come from.
honestly, i wish there could be a Good ever after high reboot. things like making Actually apple wlw and coming to terms with that would have so much thematic and symbolic meaning, if raven and dexter's relationship or even dexter and cupid's was more fleshed out (if they didn't drop cupid as a character lol.), if lizzie and daring's dynamic was more fleshed out as people who both aspire to be like their king/queen parents... so many ideas and implied storylines were there they just never got the chance to be fleshed out
Princess Academy was so near and dear to my heart as a child I reread my copy over and over until the spine fell apart
Going to AO3 immediately after the kiss what a mood 😂
Fun fact: At the end of Boo York Boo York (I think) Raven and Apple have a cameo
I would be very curious to see how they'd go about it
I absolutely LOVED this Deep Dive!!!! Please do more of it!!!!

Rampant Fervosity!!!!!
"The legand of shadow high, wait a min- THIS BOOK" was my exact reaction when I found this out too 😭😭😭
"The queen yeets Apple out the window"
And she'd absolutely be queer because she did give off those vibes despite me not realizing I was queer back then
@@camie2075 omg i love that! i was also a dragon kid (it’s why i can draw wings rly well now lmao), so i totally get it! i think the princess of dragons is a super cool concept. if u did wanna rework her, she could be a replacement for Faybelle as the villain in sleeping beauty’s story, since the evil fairy does turn into a dragon (at least in the disney version). but honestly, a new fairytale would be cool, too! or she could be the trainer of all the evil dragons in other fairytales lmao. so many options!
and for the record, i also have a dear childhood OC who could turn into a dragon who i have reworked recently lmao, and yes she has become queer fjsbfbdb i’m wondering if this is a universal dragon kid experience lol
tysm for responding !! i loved reading this :D
@@plushdragonteddy thank you so much!! I definitely still have a soft spot for her and my younger self. And those are all really great suggestions! I'll have to think on her backstory more and hopefully get to writing it out later. I think that's really funny that we both ended up having similar ocs/dragon loving backgrounds. And the fact that it's turned queer is even better lol! 😂 Thank you for taking interest in my oc too! It really brightened my day /gen
I love that you encourage me to read
I need that kind of positive influence in my life, makes my brain feel good when I complete books
I think there was a short before Epic Winter where we meet Crystal. I think Apple and Maddie go there for a school project or something? I remember Jackie making Maddie count snowflakes for them.
People ask me( a lesbian), what was my “omg I’m gay” moment. This entire arc, I swear my only type is darling charming or raven. No in between.
Tinkerbell is a character in the original Peter Pan book, so not disney! The pixie hollow stuff is all disney though
Rampant virvocity
rampant fervocity (it’s not a word :c) now i have to read the books bc i honestly miss eah so much, but this was such a fun series and if that reboot ever does happen, i look forward to your videos on it!
Got a note written from Maddie

5:29 NL ranting about the legality in a magical world
Me: why is the evil queen on a workout bike!?!!
In the original Snow Queen story, there was an evil mirror dust that affected some of the characters and made them "evil", so using dust for the Evil Queen's mirror is a really fun play on that :)
i really love all of your ever after high videos - it makes me want to pick up the novels, for sure! 😻
in Monster high G3 there is an episode plot where CA cupid was to return with a whole new name but with her similar monster high design . in the plot it explained that she used to live in anther world that ended up getting destroyed so she decided to transfer to monster high sad emoji. G3 monster high basically ruined any hope of a ever after high comeback to happen. oh well
Thanks for coming back 👍👍👑🔥
I love your deep dive of ever after high with rampant ferocity
I love rosabella & daring tbh. They were so cute to me. Also would've loved for the parents to be shown in winter story.
19:32 it would’ve been AMAZING if Jackie and north’s reason of wanting to control winter was a heritage thing: Jack Frost used to control winter, and that was taken away from him, and now they want the power to control winter back into their family to honor their father and family. This could’ve also been a great thing to sneak in the plot of those students that DID want their destinies/ the heritage they had from their parents and that now feel robbed and lost about what to do with their lives
the after credit scene from monster high boo York, boo York also hinted at the crossover with EAH, really wished they did something with it.
2:54 - Even so, events from the Book 1 Webisodes were implied to have taken place in Shannon Hale’s book continuity more or less as they did in web shorts. I definitely recall that book having an offhand mention of Apple and Maddie being co-presidents for the student body.
Shannon Hale is a great author, I would 100% recommend the Princess academy books, I promise you that they're not what you're probably expecting.
Did you just say Efter Aver high during the outro 🤣🤣 no judging, i love you more than that
When they do choose to reboot Ever After High, hopefully things won't go too far
Also, awesome deep dive into EAH, I've been going back to this series since I missed watching the show and the way you explained each part is a gift in it of itself 💙
“Princesses always stay strapped”
…there are like ten jokes there.
I'm kind of curious as to the direction they could take if they tried to do a show targeted towards their older fans as well, as I'm sure Mattel is well aware of the teen and adult fanbases
here to express RAMPANT FERVOSITY for these videos before I hit the subscribe button, thank you for entertaining us, you absolute monarch
