In today's video, we go over how Greg installs his new coil-overs on the Lexus LS400. During the process, we run into some troubles with our jack, but that couldn't stop the process and we successfully got the job done! It does actually penetrate the threads.
Here's how it works: take a standard bolt and nut and twist them together half way, note how there's a little bit of play. The way a nut's thread works is, to allow for motion there's a little bit of difference between the diameter of the bolt and the ID of the nut.
A few thou, when you tighten the nut, on something, it only touches on one side of the thread, whilst the other is completely untouched. That's where crud and rust builds up in time, penetrant, a very thin substance, seeps in that gap and breaks moistens the crud and allows you to unstuck your nut/bolt, the oil, then takes up the job of lubricating the passage.
A way to visualize this: take your palms facing fingers towards each other and interlace them facing palm towards you. Keeping the left hand locked, move the right one down. Left hand is the thread on the bolt, right hand is the thread on the nut.
Hope it makes sense, explaining it never really works, the only way to really understand threads is to actually machine one complete set by yourself on a lathe. It sounds simple, you just select the right speed and feed, according to chart, but the fine details are in that gap i mentioned. If you make your threads + and - of each other, the nut simply, won't go. Not until you've cut that space out.

i am glad to know I am not the only person using pink godspeed coil overs. But i use mine on a daily driver.
adrian davidson I honestly love the pink and have no complaints about build quality on these coils!
I like them a lot. I put them on my mini cooper s because I was able adjust the spring rate separately from the ride height (and cost). the only issues I have is the top of the rears are not accessible so adjusting the softness of them is a pain. For the price I have been pleasantly surprised.

On my LS I had the 350 stocks as well I had a 265 35 18 in the rear with a 245 40 18 in the front. No fender roll needed.

FYI PB Blaster really does work there's a guy on here that does research about random products and he proved that PB Blaster actually penetrates like it supposed to but it takes an hour to two hours to do so but it's the best and it was the best out of all that he tested

If you gonna have some kind competition where you hit cones use water balloons instead. It’ll be a bit more difficult but the footage should be worth it.
Street Bandito instead of cones, It look even better if ya could put a lil paint in them different colors for different drivers. I’m pretty sure top gear done this b4 just popping balloon. Ya might want to put a cone a foot to the outside of the first set to make it easier to see where there at n like 2 or 3 balloon wide to give ya the best chance at hittin em

All the weight is in the front cuz of the engine so I would have mounted the long coils in the front and the shortest in the back.
MindForge that's not really how it works. The front spring rates are 12k for the weight of the front and the rears are 10k for the lack of weight... kinda

I know this is old but I'm watching in order...
Being that it's got a soft ride intended for luxury you may (and hope you do) need to get a stiffer sway bar for the rear to help hold it in place while the car is wildin out. Especially if you intend to have more people in the back with their extra weight.

Apparently the twin turbo Supra 5 speed automatic lsd gears fit inside the ls400 differential. Can't find anybody that's done it, but every forum I read on it says it will.

I love it! The stance, the color, the rims. I'm dreamin' of an early 90s Nissan pick up with a 1UZ-T. A few questions: What's the deal with the hood? I might have missed that. But also, what is that Alien egg pod looking thing in your ceiling at the beginning of the vid? It looks horrifying.
crispycris thanks! The hood skin is going to be made of carbon and the inner structure will be cut because the hood weighs like 60lbs and id like to get that down to 25.

crispycris Yeah its definitely more complex of a shape but its definitely doable. The main reason im not going to do that is because the front is already a good bit heavier than the rear as is and this is more of a "budget build"

crispycris its just water that leaked through the roof, there was a vent there that let cold air in during the winter so we covered it

how do you like the godspeed momos? i just picked up a set but havent installed them for my 350 yet and was wanting some feedback from someone whos run them because NOONE has anything to say about them except people who havent even bought a set
bransen cortez without driving on them its hard to say but the build quality is much better than I expected. If they're as adjustable as these you shouldn't have too hard of a time getting the ride quality you want.
