If you like the moveable vents on the side, check out the fan on top of the Proto 2000 FA. IIRC, the fan on the Proto 2000 FA moves, and it's driven of the drive line of the locomotive. There's another neat feature of the locomotive that you may have not known about.
When you convert a bunch of rolling stock to metal wheelsets, it's advisable to buy the metal wheelsets by the 100's (bulk) as you save considerable. I'm on my 4th box of 33" Walthers Proto 2000 metal wheelsets with metal axles and still have over half a box of 36" metal wheelsets. Since I model the turn of the 19th century I use mostly 33" wheelsets. Cheers from eastern TN
I think the Chessie locomotive, as you hinted, may have been dragged around a store display for days or weeks in a double or triple header but that doesn't explain the flanges being flat, what a mystery. Nice work on the rolling stock and the Canadian Pacific loco's looks the biz with the CP passenger cars. Great video, Jersey Bill
May want to have a peak at the gears on the P2Ks, can cause noises if slipping. I just put some of the red ones from ebay. Just have to file one side as the are slightly off center. But they work fine and nice and tight. Gear cover pops off easy, can leave the shell on. I have a box of 100 metal wheels coming from Amazon Santa ... Nice TS grab ... just like Christmas. Enjoy.
@ sorry no only the one a few others of various logos and types I think about 20 locos also a critter all dcc adapted, the critter is about 2 in long and in ‘US Navy’ logo. Most of our club members run N scale Bob Norris has a site on u tube of his layout at home also a modular layout called Lost Animals, worth looking up.
Dave, I have a set of the FA2's that are near silent. Yours don't sound good. Also others are saying they might have working roof fans, some of the early ones did but later releases removed the working fan to add more weight to the loco. The side grills are supposed to be movable, some can be loose while others can be moved with a bit of a push.
What? No more buying locomotives at train shows "for the rest of the year?" Was that 3 weeks???? FWIW, Bachmanns are generally pretty quiet. I'm sure some of that racket is the flat wheels. They do sell replacements on their website fairly cheaply. An area I have consistently found issues with has to do with the motor pickup at the split shell. For some reason, it always seems to develop corrosion. Unfortunately, it takes a complete tear down to address. Just something to watch for, if the loco hesitates or stutters during running. Merry Christmas!
@@ScottRails Live television is always rife with land mines... Also, the DCC decoder Bachmann uses is pretty lame. You might consider a video on an upgrade, some day.
That Train Place (eBay store) probably has replacement wheels for the Chessie loco. They specialize in locomotive parts for all sorts of HO (maybe N, too?) locos.
I am jealous, you have a kadee spring tool. Been looking for one for years. Bachmann has numerous gp40 trucks on their website. $27.00 us dollars. You Canadians have a postal strike, as your GEVO is sitting next to me. Always had some trouble with well cars, too light and the diecast ones, too expensive. Where are you storing your railroad empire? So much rolling stock.
I think they make the well cars light so you can add weight to the containers instead. I'm keeping my rolling stock in clear totes with layers of bubble wrap. The only think that doesn't go in a box is that double auto rack you sent. It has a permanent place on a shelf when not in use.

Can't find bulk wheels in Canada. If I order online from the USA, I need to pay import tax and shipping. Doubles the cost.
Haha Dave... keep you in suspenders 🤔😅
Great additions now they are all sorted.
Happy trains and happy modelling 👍
Very nice! 👍👍 Can't beat that deal on the Chessie.
Good idea dismantling the wagon in its box, the number of times I've been searching around on the floor 'Ping! Where did that bit go?'

To create a hopper load, I filled it with horn hook couplers that were rusted up with some paint. Off to the scrap yard with ya.
those p2k f units likely have a spinning fan mechanism
I have Proto2K FA2 A/B unit (DC) that runs great. Good luck getting yours tuned up! No more locomotives for the rest of the year???!!!😂😂😂
Great video as usual I have the chessie loco on my layout station looks fantastic.
possible short across the wheels sort on "melted" them causing flat spots
That's a terrifying but possible theory, lol.
I wonder if the FA's have the cheap Bachmann decoder installed, the motor noise reminds me of that.
Do Bachmann even do a non cheap decoder? lol
Oh, they are DC by the way

I have a Chelsie the same as yours with dcc for £10.00 in UK goes like a dream
Very nice, do you have any other Chelsies?

I think the FA's have the spinning fan.
Yes they do.
If I had to guess David, I would say the Chessie Loco was hooked to other loco's and drug around the track to make those wheels look like that.
I wonder how long it had to endure that torture.
@@ScottRails 10 or so trips around the track maybe.
I checked the Chessie web site and yes it is a GP40-2
Thanks Big Brain Joe.

Yes, I found the roof fans when I opened one up to inspect it. Kinda pointless as you can't really see them from outside, lol.
will all n gauge trains run on bachmann, or kato track?
I'm sorry, I know nothing about N scale.
It's impressive how good your simple backdrop looks in the videos. Does it look as good in person? Thanks.
In my opinion, it looks better in person, lol.
Mr Scott is it possible to put a coupler on backwards?
ummm, do you mean upside down? Then yes.
You need a #50 drill and 2-56 tap Davev
You can’t Stay Away Cause It’s In your System You’ll Go to More.
I think you missed the joke, lol.
Yes I did all Good.
Forgot to mention, the bells used on your mehano steam locomotives are cross compatible.

Yes, I don't know why I said that about them being noisy. I have another Bachmann Chessie which is silent.
