Nice pattern Barry. I've always wanted to tie this, I have a can full of those poly balls from a dog bed and lots of nylons, but relied on other emergers for river fishing. Don't really trout fish stillwaters. You tie such beautiful and perfect flies that I'll have to tie some. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great looking fly! I love your videos, but are most of your flies for river fishing? I fish mainly in stillwater as there are no rivers close to where I live. Thanks for the videos!
Did you say "goose herl"? I've never heard of that. I think that crafting tule would make an acceptable substitute for the stocking; it comes in many colors - including flourescents and sparkle.
Hi Jim, sorry I have only just seen this for some reason! I just match the size of the ball to the hook size. They come in a small bag of mixed sizes and I just choose the one that looks right!

Nice. I like the use of the nylon stocking and polystyrene ball for flotation. Looking forward to giving it a tie. Lp
Very nice fly.

Hi Stryker, thanks. No not at all most of the patterns can be used on still waters also.
Thanks for the pattern and all your great videos mate!
Is polysterene the same as eps pearls?
Thanks Simon, not sure, but if they float they will work.

I use ostrich herl in the video, but John Goddard also used goose herl for the thorax.
Hi, Would it be possible to add the colour of the thread, marabou and herl . many thanks, keep up the great work, George
Hi George, the thread is olive, the marabou is also olive and the herl is brown, but please use what colours are best for where you fish.
What size mm foam balls would you find appropriate for different size flies?
