The material list is greatly appreciated; my hearing is horrible and the CC types the most outrageous stuff. These vids are the best on the internet and THANKYOU
The absolute master of proportions. It's always a wonder how you can fit so many materials and layers right down to the eye of the fly and still not have them run over. Such an inspiration.
Davie I missed this and I apologize. I have been looking for a midge pattern for a particularly fussy trout so I am tying a couple of everything in the hopes of solving a mystery. I really like this one and several more of your midge designs. Thank you for the hard work you do in order to make us better tyers. I have followed you for about nine years now.....actually maybe longer, I'm not sure how many years you have been doing this? So it could be longer. Enjoyed every second of your instruction and your kindness. The most important thing you ever said to me about tying is,"Remember, you're the boss! Make the material do what you want it to do."
One of my biggest fussy browns ate a fly similar to that years ago. Great pattern to carry year round. Cheers from USA and hope you and yours are well.👍🏻
Great looking pattern as always , wish a had a couple of these yesterday when I was struggling to catch fussy fish sipping of the top! Nice to pop up a smaller nymph on the cast I would imagine as well . 👍
Hi I Believe, I do use wax for holding very fine, soft and short dubbing like mole but I would say for most other dubbings I rarely do this. If you search my videos for the waterhen bloa you will see me using the wax to hold the dubbing..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie
Hi Dave, love your videos! Thanks! I'm gonna ask you about your video setup? What lens are you using for getting such a clear video? Kind regards from Iceland
Hi hawksmut, I use a Sony ax100e camcorder which has a 29 mm wide-angle ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens but I screw on a +2 filter to get the closeup shots you just have to have the camcorder on the desk to get it to focus..I hope this is of some help to you.. All the very best Davie
Hi Tweed Rabbit, It's the Veniards wax that I use. I have attached a video I made which shows you how I prepare it and soften it for use..It does go hard when cold especially in the winter months... ua-cam.com/video/IN4N92G14Xg/v-deo.html All the very best Davie..
hi davie could i pick you brain please ,,been watching for years ,,love your style ,,anyway could you give me any idea why trout jump clear of the water they dont seem to be feeding ,,and i cant catch them just lately they doing all over the lake ,,or loch ,,thanks
Hi Rob, I have three reasons why trout would do this with the experience I have had when I was a fishery manager. The first is a brown algae which can irritate the gills of the fish, secondly is fresh water lice which is as acutely like the sea lice you would see on a salmon and the fish will jump to try and splash them off and finally especially with brown trout chasing others out of their space by being territorial..I hope this is of some help to you.. All the very best Davie

All those different ingredients would seem at first to be quite the mash up but the finished product is stunning. A true master as always.

I remember my grandad used a small block of resin to run the thread through so that it would not slip on the hook, do folk still use this method
