  • After experimenting with several ways of meal-prepping, I've been settling into a routine of "cook once, eat twice", which I find to be a happy medium between freshly cooked meals and bulk-preparing meals in advance.
    In this video, I’d like to share how I utilize “cook once eat twice” over a weekend of cooking and eating, and also, my 5 favorite advantages of this versatile style of meal-prepping.

    We've recently adopted the bento bowl type cooking. Basically we make rice, a protein of some sort and just chop up a variety of vegetables. We find it so easy and the varieties are endless. I dont know if bento bowl is actually what it's called but we just love japanese, chinese and korean style food.

    I tried to cook on Saturdays for the whole week ahead for a couple of months, and I encountered the same exact problems: I hated Saturdays for being so long and exhausing (though usually I love to cook), I spent a lot of time on planning groceries for the week, and I didn't like the taste of defrosted/reheated food, repeated again and again. And if I made a mistake and the stew was not ver good, I had to eat it for 4-6 days .... D:
    I definitely can adopt cook once - eat twice method. Thank you for the good video!

    Instead of the bulky containers you could use Stashed bags. They are a great alternative and take up way less space. I have been using them for a few months now and absolutely love them for freezing, storing, taking away and even cooking.

    YES YES YES! I currently started doing this for myself. Last month I was eating out so much and had gotten kinda tired of cooking just for myself. So then I was also throwing away food I wasn't using. Recently, I got one week of Hello Fresh - which sends meals for TWO minimum. So I did exactly this and ate one and saved the other half for the next day! I have now started shopping like this, and it's surprisingly saving me a lot of money. Now, I feel like I have more time, I'm eating healthier, wasting less, and enjoying trying to cook new things. I'm also eating more sides with my meals where before I was only eating like chicken, or loads of meat and not enough everything else.

    What I like to do is add different side dishes that can be eaten with the meal or just use a lot of lime juice to change the flavour the next day.
    Since my parents like to cook the same recipes on repeat (a habit which I've adopted as well).

      In our home, we also eat the same dish until there's no more leftovers. Lol. Same menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, sometimes until the next breakfast. Always reheat stuffs. My mom often cook marinated chicken in a bulk, then put them in the freezer, we take them out to fry as needed. It can last for a few days. Lol. I always thought this is something very normal. It turns out it's not? Lol

      Heck, if I'm making soup I'll make as big of a pot of it as I can and eat it for days on end. I love making big portions of healthy foods to eat. I only cook once eat once when it comes to junkier foods because if its sitting in the fridge and I'm feeling snacky late at night... I'm definitely going to eat it lol

    Loved the vid, I kinda already do that myself, but with a twist. So let's say I cook a fresh lunch and then store the leftovers. At night, I cook a brand new dinner and also store the leftovers. For the next 2-3 days I get to play around and make new combinations and will often add a little something else on top of everything, just so we don't have the exact same meal twice in a row. Keeps the wife happy, since I'm the cook here :)

    Thanks for the nice video. I usually cook once for 2-3 meals. However, I m a person who doesn’t like to eat same dish after one meal. So what I do is to make some variation in between using different ingredients. Can go by steaming or mix and match with other ingredients available in the fridge.
    Steaming means to place ingredients in a bowl and place it in rice cooker with some water, turn it on and set the timer. That’s all.
    Eg : 1st meal is plain rice with roasted chicken and a steam carrot and sweet corn . Balance rice and stir dry with roasted chicken too and reserve for 2nd meal + boiled some broccoli. That’s all

    Hi! I've noticed that you don't use a kitchen hood /smoke extractor, or maybe it was hidden out of shot? Was it a concious decision not to install one? Any problem with cooking odour? After some time of cooking without using a hood, the water vapour started to cause my ceiling paint to crack and peel, any such problem as well?

    • @ThoughtworthyCo
      @ThoughtworthyCo  4 роки тому +6

      Hey! So we grew up in both our parents' homes that didn't use kitchen hoods (they were not fans of them). So we never felt like it was something we needed to get, which is why we didn't install it. For the cooking that we do, honestly we're not bothered by any cooking odour problems at all. We still shut the doors of our bedroom and office when cooking though. We've also never had the ceiling paint crack in the kitchen (so far in our home, as well as previously in our parents' places)
      Cheers! :)

    your husband should also do the meal prep and the washing up. I know it's an asian thing to keep the women in the kitchen but SG is supposedly a first world country. doesn't it follow that you should have equal rights or at least equal distribution of household tasks in a marriage?

    • @ThoughtworthyCo
      @ThoughtworthyCo  4 роки тому +6

      I enjoy my time in the kitchen. I don't want to be the one fixing stuff when things break. I prefer not to do the strenuous chores that my husband does. I also don't prefer to film and edit videos. We distribute our tasks fairly, not equally.

    Meal prepping is some weird american fad. In any other national cuisine, cooking dishes in a bulk is simply how food was prepared since always.

    • @ThoughtworthyCo
      @ThoughtworthyCo  4 роки тому +1

      Hmm.. not sure how accurate is "since always". I imagine refrigerator sizes, technology and widespread use would only date back about two generations or so 🤔 We're not American, and the point of family cooking here is usually to have *freshly-cooked* meals.

    • @ThoughtworthyCo
      @ThoughtworthyCo  4 роки тому +2

      100% agree it shouldn't only be on women's shoulders; a couple should find their own happy arrangement for housework. I enjoy my time in the kitchen, he does the more physical chores, so I can't be happier with our distribution of chores 😊
