Bruce Thomas is still an amazing bass player, despite all the bad blood. Too bad it had to end that way. Great video - when Elvis rocks, he ROCKS!!

Pete Thomas is a phenomenal drummer! Just, phenomenal! His high tuned snare and fills are just spot the fuck on! His playing on the Brutal Youth album is some of my most favourite drumming and he was a huge influence to me as a drummer, especially his fills and the way he commands the attention and yet creates loads of space for the rest of the band, he’s possibly the perfect drummer for songs that are not just ‘straight up 4/4’ as he is so imaginative in the way he approaches them. Alan White tried to do the same thing with Oasis and you can really hear that Pete must’ve been an influence. He’s one of the best drummers of his generation, if not, the best!

@SirReal1958 Much of it stems from a book Bruce released in 1990 called "The Big Wheel," which is a fictionalized account of life on the road with a touring band (supposedly a thinly veiled version of his time with The Attractions). Apparently Elvis took serious umbrage to it and things were never the same. (Elvis' song "How to Be Dumb" is supposedly about Bruce.) They reconciled for "Brutal Youth" and "All This Useless Beauty," but Elvis began accusing him of being lazy and sloppy.

I am reading Rough Notes, which is Bruce's more accurate account of what happened. It's way more measured.

@SirReal1958 Anyway, it's a shame because I think The Attractions--all three of 'em--are the best rock backing band of all time.

Live yes. I hate to say it but even better when Elvis would just sing and not play.

What's the facts about the feud between Elvis Costello and Bruce Thomas? I remember when E.C. and the Attractions were inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Bruce Thomas didn't want to go on stage with the other 3 band members.
