+ItsJustZoey Agreed, they are nice..but get uncomfortable the longer you wear them. The Tiamat 7.1's are pretty nice though. I've had mine for 3-4 years now? Can't remember, but I can wear them for 5-7 hrs straight no problem.

+ItsJustZoey I use the Steelseries Siberia v2 Frost Blue and they are just awesome. I mean.. ye, the mic is not so great but i have a condenser studio mic so not a big deal. However, I can wear the headset for like 10 hours without taking it off. I love it. I also have the Razer Chimaera but they get reeeeaaallly unconfortable even after half an hour. Ofc they win in convinience cuz they're wireless..
+Zac Devinney its not just uncomfortable it sound quality has to be the worst out there!

Obv the SS Siberia doesn't sound that great, but it's good enough for gaming. I use my lovely Sennheiser / Beyerdynamic headphones for music listening. :D
joedatius well i was kind of disappointed :D not that i would go build myself a headset, but it would have been very entertaining to watch :D although now that i think of it, i build a headset about 10 years ago... i was really broke back then :)
Tek Syndicate I guess it depends on what keyboard you have. Really silent would be red + o-rings. Although in my experience cherry red is quieter than browns.
I watched the whole thing and didn't see you MAKE a single thing. I think you are misrepresenting the word "make" as the word "buy". Buying 2 products and plugging them into a splitter is not making gaming headphones.
what kind of things can be made that are not a combination of other things? even if he showed you how to make a headset from paperclips plastic cups you still would need the supplies. nothing is "made" in the literal sense you seem to be talking about.
very nice idea, i sugest the sr 850 headphone it is the same thing as the hd ,same awesome sound but without removable cable so it is cheaper, around 20 bucks the zalman clip mic is a good idea but it is just a lavalier gaming mic, a regular lavalier mic will cost only 1 buk and will sound as good. and you can find around 4 buck some velour pads total 25 bucks.
It's funny, I am 100% opposite from Logan on this one. I think the Monoprice ones are more comfortable and sound better across the entire range than the 668b. I prefer closed to open as well. Oh well, c'est la vie!
youmakeitwhatitis Hey nice, that sounds great. I haven't actually seen that page until now; it looks pretty good. Stallman is "a bit" extremist in many ways, but he still makes many good points, and when it comes to Apple that's certainly no exception.
let write really long youtube comments. i really hate long youtube comments because it is very stressful on the eyes. its. not so bad considering that it kills things with small brains like console fanboys but it still effects the glorious pc master race it used to make our steam library shrink but lord gaben made a protective shield and all long comments do now to pc members is hurt ur eyes because the comment is reflecting in the sheild and it causes electrons to join with protons and cause that if u been reading this far reply to me saying 456 anyways im gonna say all of this to make the comment look longer
I bought the superlux headphones after I saw your old review on them. They're actually really nice. I have a pretty big head, so simply putting on and taking off headphones puts a lot of wear on their joints. This headset has probably lasted longer than any other i've owned. Usually they snap in half within about 3 months. It's also been the most comfortable headset i've owned, because of how wide the band that goes over your head is.
Did you try putting aftermarket earpads on the Superlux headphones? I just got 668Bs, but I can't see any clear alternatives that are compatible on Amazon other than these. www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Velvet-Replacement-Cushion-Headphones/dp/B00KLPRQMO/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1KD9W8RCVN09HHAXFF8Q
I have had the Superlux HD-668B for 3+ years now. Still amazing value and good sound. Only issue is the cable is slightly broken from the headphones. Thanks Logan for the recommendation, steer me clear of those Beats.
I was literally watching this video and i was so worried that my headset was a piece of shit, but then you said the hyperX cloud was ok and i was so relieved XD
Superlux 668B are bright at the beginning, but with time they get more heavy. Also, pairing with e.g. Dragonfly Black, makes improvement - that is my set in 2021/2022.
ThreeDaysOfDan You're a little confused, neither bass ruins sound fidelity or treble enhances it. The best sound quality is achieved by a balanced sound spectrum (low, mid, high). If you really want quality audio, not just for games but for music, movies and enterteinment in general go for a pair of studio monitors, seriously is like living a new experience in your life, I'm a professional musician and a music production student and once you listen through a pair of studio monitors you will never go back to standard speakers or surround. Now if you need headphones go for a Monitor headphones from M-Audio or alesis.
ZippetySticks >See friend on computer >Friend is on Amazon >On-screen text asks him to confirm purchase for Razer Krakens >Friend is about to click "Confirm purchase" >Grab friend's computer, throw it out of nearest window >Friend gets pissed >Buy him a new PC and a pair of audiophile headphones >feelsgoodforyoubutnotyourbankaccountman
The Samsung earbuds that are bundled with most Samsung phones are actually pretty nice. Just Amazon "samsung earbuds" and you'll see them (they're the white ones). There are black ones, too (not the ones on the "samsung earbuds" page), and are pretty much identical. To find those, just Amazon "samsung black earbuds oem".
I have a question. Are there any headphones (headphones not headset) with 7.1 surround under the price of 55 dollars? EDIT: After I watched the entire video, I heard you say you don't like surround. Well are all these stereo? Why do you not like surround? Or perhaps are they 5.1 and not 7.1? I really need that directional sound and good bass (not those crappy muddy sounding headphones you know) for all the explosions and I also listen to alot of metal and rock so that'd be great. Waiting on a reply! :D
Ok, I'm going to trust you on this, so what would you recommend me, the Superlux 668B or the California Co Silverado Premium(www.amazon.com/California-Headphone-Co-Headphones-Detachable/dp/B009F4BV8C)? Or a better one that's around 50 dollars! :)
***** Yeah Vaes, guess what a simulation does. Right, it changes volume, frequency, phase on the left and right ear etc. Surround simulations CAN work. The thing is, they are based on standardised datas. Not everyones ear is the same, thats why not every frequency change would be the same for different persons. So for some people sumlations work, for some they doesn't. I prefer stereo too. Hexthrill Superlux HD681b(20€), Superlux HD681 EVo (30€) and Takstar Hi2050 (55€). Choose one.
***** I could swear when I read you comment it was different. Did you edited it some time? Or I was drunk :D Because yeah... of what there stands now, I should have been clearly able to get that you mean real surround. Only read something like this: "It's because anything above stereo simply doesnt work in headsets. The way your body locates sound is by comparing the difference in volume, frequency, and phase of the left and right ear." Sorry for that ^^ Yeah, Tritton and Roccat have 4.2 and 6.0 headsets and I think Razer even has 8.2 or 10.0. Can you imagine that? 10 speakers in a headset, such bullshit...ds
***** im not entirely sure if your arguement is valid. Yes the way that ears work is if a sound is hear stronger in one ear than the other, your brain recognizes that balance and pinpoints the location. However, that works on a 360* radius in real time. In headsets, the speakers are only to your left and right, which reduces your hearing range to only your left and right, but you can't pinpoint front and back. Let me explain: on a 2D coordinate plane, if the plane would represent the floor space of where your player is, stereo headsets would only utilize the X axis, because they only work left and right. Now, a surround headset, 5.1 or 7.1 would be able to better utilize the Y axis due to the positioning of the speakers in the headset. it's the same mechanics that your brain uses in real time to determine the location of sound, used with small speakers.
***** I really cant agree here. Software doesnt use any form of delay or anything like that. sound travels so quickly that the idea of a delay is ridiculous. the real reason is sound strength in a particular region. the reason why we can pinpoint sounds in different areas is because our ears are pointing that direction. now, think about it this way: i have a microphone. im going to point it toward a specific sound source. the sound will pick up much better when pointing towards it. now, if the microphone was pointing AWAY from the sound source, it would not be able to pick up as easily. well, the same concept with ears applies. and thats where surround comes in. back to the 3d graph, software uses basic calculations to determine sound strength in a specific place, which then gets output through the speakers. but you may now ask, "yeah, thats great, but how does sound strength determine location on the Y axis?" glad you asked friend. stereo headsets can only output strong or weak sounds on the left and right, which again means only X axis. in a surround headset, the positioning of the speakers is specific, as the sides, front, and back of each ear, so different strengths coming from different sides makes hearing the sounds easier. Now in some arguements one might say "two ears, two speakers, its a perfect match." let me put that arguement to rest. Do this: take your hand and snap in front of your face. It sounds like it came from there doesnt it? now snap to the front left of your face. again, thats where it sounded like, right? now to your left. pretty much snap all around your head. now that weve established that your ears are designed to hear on the 360* radius, do this: snap in your left ear, then your right ear. thats what having stereo headsets feels like. you can hear from the right, left, and center, but you cant hear front and back. so the idea of having multiple speakers in a headset isnt actually crazy at all. by using simple instruction from the software, a headset will output a specific sound strength and a specific speaker, and another sound appropriately placed in the other earcup in a similar manner, but with a different strength.
A good reason to choose closed headphones over open is if you happen to use a condenser microphone. If you want the best audio out of your awesome sounding condenser mic, you need to get up close to it and you generally don't want sound from your headphones spilling into the mic. You are right to point out you get wider sound staging from open headphones, but closed will still give you good enough impressions of directions sounds are coming from in games to hear that bad guy on the other side of the wall creeping along it to nail him when he peeks.

@@nhk403 nope not anymore, most new samson comes with leather pad sadly when you get them around 20 dolar so im guessing it is a cost reduction measure.
I've owned my 668Bs for a couple years now, and they really are the best pair of headphones you can buy for $40. I haven't bought or even tried expensive headphones, but whenever I've tried any other non-audiophile headphones, I'm ALWAYS disappointed. So for $40, its a great baby's-first-pair. The low end definition is where these things really shine. They go so damn low and with no distortion or odd peaks at all. They'll perform really well without an amp on my cellphone too. But holy shit do those weird things at the top hurt your head. If you do get a pair, find a place to leave them on, stretched out because those brick, I mean foam, pads will dig into your head. You won't notice it until you adjust them and then you'll feel the hurt. But totally worth it for the quality.
radiohead4everrrrr Definitely, I love my set. I used to have £120 Sennheisers until they broke. I couldn't afford a new set, so I settled for the HD668B instead, completely satisfied. I found the ear pads awful though, so I replaced them with Hifiman velour pads, improves the comfort and sound tons. About your comfort issue with the head wing things though, I had the same. The side adjustment completely fixed that though, now they press against the sides of my head instead of the top.
That User Like the video says, good gaming headphones = good headphones. I don't do much gaming. No matter what, I prefer my desktop monitors over my cans. But if I need to be quiet, it's no big sacrifice to switch to my HD668B's. I actually prefer them when listening to really experimental electronic stuff.
Jack Hart I'm reading this going "side adjustment"??? I go over and pick up my pair, pull on the 'wings', and then they adjusted. Well fuck. Now they're perfect I guess.
I have the Logitech G230, and im actually pretty happy with them! I still want a better mic but i dont want an SUPER mic like yours, just something that makes Skype calls and stuff like that nice and clear. Any recommendations??
a cheap micro will do it, like the zalman MCI or something compareable. you can clip these types of mics to the headphone cables or oyur cloths. there are others thean the zalman at almost every price range. there are also some alternatives like the antilon modmic or the one from v-moda. beyerdynamic has also one for their custom one headphones(called "Beyerdynamic Custom Headset Gear"), but they work with any headphone. i would recommend the zalman. below 10 bucks, the other ones are around 50 to 60 but don't sound that much better. for skype and teamspeak the zalman ist absolutely okay! www.amazon.de/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-Mikrofon-mit-Mikro-Clip-schwarz-silber/dp/B00029MTMQ
Marcster Lord Due to audio compression on skype, steam, team talk, basically ANY voip protcoll renders even the greatest mics obsolete. Pretty much any cheapo mic will sound fine. What you lose is audio quality. Comparing a HIGH QUALITY headset vs any headphone/headset/gaming set is really a night and day difference.

James Reynolds Plastic parts break, crack or otherwise dont hold up. Speakers are shit from the beginning, and they only get worse. The thin metal band for the head clamping will hyperextend and over time the headphones will begin to "slide off". That said, these are 40$. All of those problems exist on ALL headsets around 40$. At least they have a great warranty from logitech (use it...). Stay away from the 430. Its an overpriced 230 (literally, it sounds exactly the same lol)
I'm an earbud guy, and I exclusively use the "Enhanced Bass Hi-Fi Noise Isolating Earphones" from Monoprice. The price fluctuates anywhere from 5.99 to 12.99 seemingly at random, and sometimes they go on sale for even less. The sound quality of these earbuds are fucking amazing. And they're so cheap I can abuse the hell out of them and just get another pair. If you want them to sound the best, use whichever tips (comes with 3 sizes) can make an actual seal inside your ear. Once they're sealed like that, the quality jumps up several steps. But if you need to hear things around you, you can tilt them slightly to break the seal and they still sound pretty decent. I use these for music, games, movies, everything. When listening to music, I do find that these produce too much signal in the 6K range and turn that slider down slightly in my MP3 player's equalizer. Otherwise, they're basically perfect. Here's the link: www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9927
www.polygon.com/2016/2/28/11129974/xbox-one-controller-apple-earpod-earbud-headphones-buzzing-noise-fix Looks like there's a way to fix that in settings for XBox. If you use PS4 there may be a cable adapter, I can't remember I just know I had to get some sort of $4 adapter cable for my son's PS4 so he could use his headphones. Either way don't give up on your headphones right away, there might be a cheap or free fix out there.
I made my own for PC gaming. you need: 3 or 4 pairs of earbuds or drivers 1 big driver pair Stereo to Mono 3.5mm splitter * situational: *hot glue or mounting method of choice *any over ear headset or ear protection *cushion fluff to absorb sound *3.5mm extenders *drill The earbuds can be placed into the big driver headset if you have a big nice pair or you can get cheap muffs if your pair of big drivers is salvaged (top part busted?). The splitter splits Center and Sub into both ears. The sub channel obviously gets the bigger drivers. Place the buds in the spots that sound good to you, then attach. Its simple, fun and if you do it right you will get lots of use. I used ear protection and drilled a hole for the wires to come out. I recommend routing one side's wires over your head, I regret not doing that and may still do it. You can replace the drivers or upgrade them :) If you want this setup for consoles you would need a hdmi to 7.1 TRS decoder which is like 40-50$. Virtual surround sucks.
Arjan Hansen i have a mod mic 4.0 on my ATH 700X's and i dont get feedback or echo on my mic from the headphones which are extremely open. you can litterally see the driver just sitting there behind a wire grate
I think that's TS's fault. My friends and I have a wide range of different headphone+mic combinations and we all hear echo sometimes. I have a modmic 4.0 but I'm not the only one getting echo.
DrStrad but i dont hear anything wrong with them. when it comes to sound, if i can sound whore peoples footsteps, if the music is nice and crisp. then there good headsets..i spent 400 buks on the A40s plus there used in a lot of competitive gaming. worth the money and great sound Quality.
PhysicsPixel They have ok sound quality, they are used in competitive a lot because they are decent for sound whoring but a pair of headphones for $200 will be better in every way.
PhysicsPixel You think they're good because you haven't heard a pair of headphones in the same price range, or a lower one. You spent $400 on A40s???? Jesus christ man, you could've bought a pair of HD600's and an amplifier for that much.
I actually took a wireless Afterglow (Karga) headset for my Xbox One, and after a week of my friends telling me that they could barely hear me, I went in and removed the mic, then salvaged the mic from my previous Turtle Beach X12 headset for Xbox 360. A little bit of frustration and soldering later, I built myself a headset that I absolutely love.
Stop pissing around with this stuff. Go over to JH Audio and get a set of real in ear monitors. Comfortable to wear 8+ hours a day. And pretttty much everyone in the pro world is already on them.
The Superlux is also available branded as Samson S850. That one has a non removable cable. Mine had velour pads but some don't. Also, a couple of years after this video came, Superlux actually started selling them with extra velour pads. Downside (intended as a feature) is they have a weird fixating wire that makes the wire break after a year or so if you move them around a lot. I got mine fixed via shortening the wire and I think they will last a few years now. Brand names with the same drivers also include Presonus and Axelvox and probably more but I am not sure of exact corresponding models.
much prefer closed headset.... because i have children, annoying loud mewling children... so as much noise reduction as possible is awesome! worth pointing out that I bought a $10 headset 3 years ago they have great build quality and a GREAT sounding mic., I would tell you what brand but it has literally zero markings or labels, probably some cheap chinese made headset........ however... they sound as good as my turtle beach headset, as good as my brothers logitech g35s, and much better than my old playstation gold wireless headset..... and they were $10!!!!! just goes to show that the price and brand is really irrelevant. and you should try as many headsets as possible before buying (including some really "cheap crappy" headsets which often have great sound quality.) also surround sound headsets are a scam..... don't buy into it.
***** exactly my point :) the brain is what makes it "surround" not the speakers / headset, it only works so well because of the rotation of the camera, this makes it natural and second nature to just "know" where shit is coming from :)
AwesomeVindicator most open headphones have active noise cancellation though. I've used open headphones my entire life and if i have them on both ears i cant hear shit from outside. Unless of course there's no sound.
+Hijynx87 i dont have have the cloud 2 though i have the first version, the audio and built quality is fantastic. The ONLY bad thing about them is the mic.
+Darzo - Editor I also have the original HyperX Cloud also, and after around 8-10 months of use the mic went to hell and started having a crap load of background noise, but other than that they are perfect
The HD668b is on sale right now for another 16 hours or so on GearBest. It's about €23 now. If I buy the Zalman mic it will add up to around 32€ I think (- €1 since I subscribed to the newsletter and got €1 in return). Your combination apparently isn't 'the best shit you can get for 38$) ;)
Yes i'm serious you see a lot of weird and cool stuf so why not ,how to build a gaming headset. and i would be stupid to think is't not possible , building a headset isn't hard if you know what you are doing , building a pair of speaker for in home is normal so why not a head set. and saying A en doing B like the title is something that's normal now ? , it's called lying where i come from. there is no crime commited or anything but still is't a lie so people are mislead.
I watched this video a while ago and it sparked my interest in changing out my old razer headset. About a year ago I ended up getting the Blue Yeti microphone, and then a month after that I got the ATH M50's. I have been so happy with these and I cant help but think it's because this video that I made the switch. Thanks so much!!!
I don't know if it's been pointed out, but I want to correct you on one thing. No headphones in Sennheisers HD400-series appear to be open back. I might be missing something, but I sure can't find anything. If you want an open pair of Sennheisers it seems that the HD518 is probably your cheapest bet. The HD429 and HD439 look like they are open back, but they are actually not.
I actually got a Razer Blackshark headset a while ago in an Amazon sale and I thought they were great. Well, then I got a pair AT ATH-m50x's for music, with their much more balanced sound, and well I offed my Blackshark. After spending a lot of time with the M50s, I couldn't go back. The bass was overpowering and muddy, and the trebble sounded a little hollow, or like it's coming down a pipe or something. I wanted to mic up my M50s for gaming, like you do here, cause I then was using them for at least game audio, but I didn't want the extra wire clutter (mainly Xbox One gamer with the Stereo Headset Adapter, which uses a 4-pole unified headset jack. Well, was at an FYE, and in the corner I found some Audio Technical ATH-AX1iS "Sonic Fuel" or something. But, they had an inline mic and slider volume control. Bought them for balanced sound plus lower profile and lighter weight than the M50s. Well, the inline mic is strangely clearer and more sensitive than the Razer one, despite being in-line instead of boom. The sound is great, not quite my M50s but close and amazing for the $40 I spent on them. And the weight and comfort more than makes up for it. So I would suggest, along with what they're saying here if you can find high-end headphones with a good inline mic that's also a good bet for gaming, and are less intrusive than most boom mics. Or if you have a pair with a removable cable, you can sometimes find aftermarket cables with an inline mic.
Got he HD681-B for some years now and I'm very happy with them. Still planning to get those sweet AKG velours pads. From what I've heard they do change the sound slightly. The B model is a bit less aggressive on the base than the standard model and the F version is even flatter. Also got the Zalman mic and made myself a mic boom with some wire, way more comfortable and easer to understand than having them on the cable. Still a good video and still relevant today.
Having had sub-par experiences with gaming headphones, and being a musician as well as a technician, I've discovered that Studio-quality headphones that are popular with live DJ's work very well. Musicians in a studio tend to fervently prefer to hear their own instrument acoustically as well as the track playing in the phones. I use a Sony MDR-XD100 and can easily hear someone calling my name from across the house while still enjoying the sound from my machine at great quality at a reasonable volume. This does require that I have a microphone as a separate solution. I have a AGPTek HA0016 condenser mice that needs a +48VDC power supply...
My first "gaming headset" (circa Y2k) was my favorite retired AKG headset from working pro-audio gigs with one of the those $1 mics literally taped to the side of it. Best gaming headset I had for years...
I bought Superlux HD681EVO for about $30 and I'm really happy with them. I had numerous "gaming" headsets before - many of them were more than twice as expensive and not a single of them was even close to being as good as the Superlux. The headphones also came with velur earpads, jack adapter and a bag ;) I will never come back to headsets now. I also bought Zalman Mic1 at the same time. A decent microphone and probably one of the best price to quality value. Now I'm using a cheap Trust Starzz mic, because I had issues with the mic not picking up sounds well when on cable. Also if you have a mechanical keyboard and don't want your microphone to pick up them click and clacks, push to talk is a thing.
Justification for closed cans: Travel. Recently, I was on an 11 hour flight with my family. They all brought open cans and earbuds for convenience. It just so happened that a screaming baby sat in front of us and its parent didn't even care. They suffered it through will the closed cans prevailed. I had a nice, long nap.
I've been using the superlux headphones recommended in this video for around a year now, and they are amazing. They feel just tight enough so that they wont fall off of your head, and the sound quality is amazing. I wouldn't ever expect studio headphones to give me such an edge while in game. I can hear everything in the battle field and where its coming from + how far away it is. Maybe spent 40$ on these things but it definitely is worth it.
If I wear open headphones and listen to average-volume sound through them, will other people be able to hear it if the room is completely silent? Also, will the microphone possibly pick it up?
For 30$ more, you could get the Sennheiser 518's which are open back..... on Amazon, you can buy them used for 60$ in 'very good' condition! They sound pretty awesome.
I bought those panasonic earbuds (12:35) about a year ago on a road trip and I was absolutely astounded at the sound quality I was getting out of these 8 dollar pair of ear buds. It may have been that they just fit my ears really well but they've been through the laundry twice and have been beaten up for about a year now and still sound fantastic. I've bought some 30 and 40 dollar pairs that don't sound as good or are as comfortable as these. Great value.
After wearing the Superlux HD668B's for a year and a half, there are two indents in my skull where the two "wings" go on my head. If you get them, only wear them for like a year or so.
Sennheiser HD 350 Pro and similar. Great sound despite being closed, comfortable enough to wear for any extended gaming session due to being fully circumaural, but don't get the ones with integated mic. Expensive, but worth every penny.
great video guy, informative and to the point. I'm no audiophile, but I'm sure glad there are more that see beats as being way over priced for what they are. any recommendations for headphone stands? can you guys do a video on materials for setting up/sound isolating gaming environment? like what kind of sound proofing foam or ideas for a whisper room?
Do you know that 668bs are size adjustable? Few people know this actually. You must use a little bit of force. You can change their size quite a bit. And for the highs and bass use eq. Now I have fidelios x2 and 668bs don't fall far behind.
Excellent vid. Built my headset using this last year and still going strong. superlux hd668b, zalman zm1, brainwaivz replacement memory foam earpads. Without the earpads though, the 668bs would hurt after about an hour, so highly recommend the earpads
Good Advice, but does anyone know whats happening to 'California Headphone Co.' there headphones don't seem to be available and there website's down...
the quality of the physical microphone is far less important than the sampling, very dependent on the device that's doing the recording/processing. my TB X1 recorded with audacity sounds totally fine, all it's really missing is a better p-filter
Dumb question: In a subway and you do have open headphones, how intense will the death metal ride will be for the passengers? Honest answers please. I am just thinking of what to buy - gaming and music listening.
you could wear the sennheiser hd 595/598 for a week straight without discomfort. my 595's are 10 years old and still work. The thick cable is amazing. Normal gaming headset thin cables break after just a few months.
I'm still gaming on my Superlux HD681 headphones + Antlion Modmic in 2024 (purchased ~8 years ago). My only complaint is the elastic headband cords wore out, but my head is so large that this is irrelevant. Even the ear pads are still in like-new condition, in spite of my heavy 5-o'clock shadow rubbing against them all the time. I have since tried the SHP9500 and the HyperX Cloud Alpha, but neither of them compare for me.
I'm an audio engineer and I have the same superlux pair. Cheap but good, they're pretty clear and I've even used them for mixing a lot. Would recommend :)
where exactly is the part where you make your own?! I didn't see anything getting put together, any chips getting soldered, etc. That's what I was expecting when you said in the title 'make your own'.
If you live in a place where people throw cats you need a lot more than closed heasdphones
ayyy lmao
out in da hood homie we be thrown dem caats
+TheScaleless LOOOOOLLL
Lm
I'm crying :_D
I fell victim to the Razer Kraken.... Don't t trust "The most comfortable headset"
+Gergő Deés (Genius24) not saying the SS sibera arent good just saying the razer kraken 7.1 are really bad. the sound quality has to be the worst.
at first i thought this video will be teaching how to build your own headset :)
me too, glad it wasn't.
joedatius well i was kind of disappointed :D
not that i would go build myself a headset, but it would have been very entertaining to watch :D
although now that i think of it, i build a headset about 10 years ago... i was really broke back then :)
yeah but I guess the simplest way is the smartest way.
Suncho go buy one of these headphones and buy a modmic 4.0 look at jayztwocents channel he has good info about the mic
DickOswald What? why? i don't need a headset....
he lost all credibility when he recommended the apple headphones
and when he said brown cherry mx is quieter than reds.
I have listened to the ear pods they actually sound good.
Smoking Crop My browns are pretty quiet... The reds have a higher-pitched click that annoys me.
Tek Syndicate I guess it depends on what keyboard you have.
Really silent would be red + o-rings.
Although in my experience cherry red is quieter than browns.
my k750 is virtually silent
I can't believe you didn't say "These are *treble* makers" at 5:50... **ba-dum-tsh** no? Ok fine I'll show myself out
Am I the only one that noticed that there is a cup on top of a graphics card
Yes
nope I saw it too
yes, we are all blind

I watched the whole thing and didn't see you MAKE a single thing. I think you are misrepresenting the word "make" as the word "buy". Buying 2 products and plugging them into a splitter is not making gaming headphones.
That's what a gaming headset is. A set of average headphones and a crappy mic plugged into a splitter.
Well yeah. You have to BUY the parts to put them together...
+Marki9029 some mics are good. like the razer kraken pro's mic.
yeah i disliked the video cus of that xD
what kind of things can be made that are not a combination of other things? even if he showed you how to make a headset from paperclips plastic cups you still would need the supplies. nothing is "made" in the literal sense you seem to be talking about.
The title is misleading.
i thought that you were going to build real headsets, not shop them.
He did for views
It says "Make your own" Thus how to make your own.
How fucking dumb is this comment
very nice idea, i sugest the sr 850 headphone it is the same thing as the hd ,same awesome sound but without removable cable so it is cheaper, around 20 bucks
the zalman clip mic is a good idea but it is just a lavalier gaming mic,
a regular lavalier mic will cost only 1 buk and will sound as good.
and you can find around 4 buck some velour pads
total 25 bucks.
Did he just ask for bulding headphones foe gaming ..from scratch ? ... I bet he would be the one clicking the ( Downlod more ram or cpu for pc ) stuff
What would be better Hyperx Cloud or superlux 668b. (IDC about the mic, only how it is for CS:GO)
It's funny, I am 100% opposite from Logan on this one. I think the Monoprice ones are more comfortable and sound better across the entire range than the 668b. I prefer closed to open as well. Oh well, c'est la vie!
You are out of your mind. They might be slightly more comfortable, but they sound terrible compared to the 668b! Let's fist fight!
Bananas as 10 paces!

im looking around for youtube for decision s on my next gaming headset funny to hear monoprice because i work there :)
i go to the apple store and set all the web browser pages to newegg
show them the plethora of windows games
Stephen P You tried.
I will usually go to Richard Stallman's personal website and find his extensive list of reasons not to affiliate with Apple.
youmakeitwhatitis
Hey nice, that sounds great.

Yeah i bought them too :) Theyre awesome for the price.
Did you try putting aftermarket earpads on the Superlux headphones? I just got 668Bs, but I can't see any clear alternatives that are compatible on Amazon other than these.
www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Velvet-Replacement-Cushion-Headphones/dp/B00KLPRQMO/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1KD9W8RCVN09HHAXFF8Q
EdwardERS I haven't put any aftermarket earpads on. I've been fine with just the stock ones.
Soullessnut
IDK if I even have anything that's velvet. That's why I'm considering the upgrade to go with Logan's recommendation.
Are the 681s and 668Bs better than the 681 EVO?
This is the only time PC gamers will recommend Apple products...
I am so happy that I found your channel guys.... finally, nobody talks sponsored shit and just straight up tells you everything you need to know!!!
OK here we are, superlux HD668B is still a beast!!
how is it for gaming? it's been for years i know lol
@@farrellnugraha1971 both 668b and the 681 are amaziiing
"beyerdynamic technology" no, the hyperx cloud (and qpad qh-90) is based on the Takstar pro-80, a chinese oem
I have had the Superlux HD-668B for 3+ years now. Still amazing value and good sound.
Only issue is the cable is slightly broken from the headphones.
Thanks Logan for the recommendation, steer me clear of those Beats.
I misinterpreted the title and thought you were gonna show how to build a pair of headphones, I am now disappointed
I was literally watching this video and i was so worried that my headset was a piece of shit, but then you said the hyperX cloud was ok and i was so relieved XD
ya, i love those
i need a headset for gaming but i guess my earphones will work even though their base is too good
It's your opinion.
dude its your opinion
Leeli ville yea thats true
Gaming Headsets Suck. You figured that 7 years ago and produced a video. Just goes to show your foresight. You've been right all along. You still are.
On the Superlux, lower the 7kHZ down about -9dB, 5kHZ -5, 8kHZ -6 and everything after down by -3.
Helps alot with the brightness of the headphones.
Superlux 668B are bright at the beginning, but with time they get more heavy. Also, pairing with e.g. Dragonfly Black, makes improvement - that is my set in 2021/2022.
So its all about that bass?
***** No, Treble.
Bass ruins sound quality and treble enhances it JS, losing sound fidelity over a thump is retarded
ThreeDaysOfDan bass is still awesome
ThreeDaysOfDan not when playing arma
ThreeDaysOfDan You're a little confused, neither bass ruins sound fidelity or treble enhances it. The best sound quality is achieved by a balanced sound spectrum (low, mid, high). If you really want quality audio, not just for games but for music, movies and enterteinment in general go for a pair of studio monitors, seriously is like living a new experience in your life, I'm a professional musician and a music production student and once you listen through a pair of studio monitors you will never go back to standard speakers or surround. Now if you need headphones go for a Monitor headphones from M-Audio or alesis.
I tried to talk my friend into getting some good pair of headphones, but his bias got the best of him and he got Razer headphones :/
+ZippetySticks that's marketing for 'ya.
Same story here...

Joe Gay Yeah, next time ill be more aggressive.
ZippetySticks >See friend on computer

>Grab friend's computer, throw it out of nearest window

The Samsung earbuds that are bundled with most Samsung phones are actually pretty nice. Just Amazon "samsung earbuds" and you'll see them (they're the white ones). There are black ones, too (not the ones on the "samsung earbuds" page), and are pretty much identical. To find those, just Amazon "samsung black earbuds oem".
what's next? Get your own gaming fingers! Build your own cheaply!
I just ordered DT 990 Pro + E10K with a Samson Meteor mic, did i goof?
Should be a great, but this is 4 years ago and I just came here, so you tell me.
*****
Yeah Vaes, guess what a simulation does.
Hexthrill
Superlux HD681b(20€), Superlux HD681 EVo (30€) and Takstar Hi2050 (55€).
Choose one.
*****
I could swear when I read you comment it was different. Did you edited it some time? Or I was drunk :D
Because yeah... of what there stands now, I should have been clearly able to get that you mean real surround.
Only read something like this:
"It's because anything above stereo simply doesnt work in headsets. The way your body locates sound is by comparing the difference in volume, frequency, and phase of the left and right ear."
Sorry for that ^^
Yeah, Tritton and Roccat have 4.2 and 6.0 headsets and I think Razer even has 8.2 or 10.0.
Software doesnt use any form of delay or anything like that. sound travels so quickly that the idea of a delay is ridiculous. the real reason is sound strength in a particular region. the reason why we can pinpoint sounds in different areas is because our ears are pointing that direction. now, think about it this way:
i have a microphone. im going to point it toward a specific sound source. the sound will pick up much better when pointing towards it. now, if the microphone was pointing AWAY from the sound source, it would not be able to pick up as easily. well, the same concept with ears applies.
and thats where surround comes in. back to the 3d graph, software uses basic calculations to determine sound strength in a specific place, which then gets output through the speakers.
but you may now ask, "yeah, thats great, but how does sound strength determine location on the Y axis?" glad you asked friend. stereo headsets can only output strong or weak sounds on the left and right, which again means only X axis. in a surround headset, the positioning of the speakers is specific, as the sides, front, and back of each ear, so different strengths coming from different sides makes hearing the sounds easier.
Are you guys endorsed by Kingston?

THATS GONNA BE A YES FROM ME DAWG
A good reason to choose closed headphones over open is if you happen to use a condenser microphone. If you want the best audio out of your awesome sounding condenser mic, you need to get up close to it and you generally don't want sound from your headphones spilling into the mic. You are right to point out you get wider sound staging from open headphones, but closed will still give you good enough impressions of directions sounds are coming from in games to hear that bad guy on the other side of the wall creeping along it to nail him when he peeks.

The Samson comes stock with velour pads that are bigger than my beyerdynamic. But I wholeheartedly agree with the recommendation.
The side adjustment completely fixed that though, now they press against the sides of my head instead of the top.
radiohead4everrrrr did you ever use them for gaming and if so were they good
That User I have, and yes they are fantastic. Amazingly detailed, and wide soundstage. But I use them with velour pads so that's what I'm going by.
That User Like the video says,
good gaming headphones = good headphones.

I prefer closed personally
Apple earbuds cause a buzzing noise on console. 😖
You must play really close to your console if you use Apple earbuds lol

This is literally in every single GTA V console server!

Looks like there's a way to fix that in settings for XBox. If you use PS4 there may be a cable adapter, I can't remember I just know I had to get some sort of $4 adapter cable for my son's PS4 so he could use his headphones.
Either way don't give up on your headphones right away, there might be a cheap or free fix out there.
I actually ended up buying a pair of the superlux hd668b's with velour ear cups and a modmic 4 and I love it.
Same here!
How is the sound leakage? Is it good for 2019?
I made my own for PC gaming. you need:
3 or 4 pairs of earbuds or drivers
1 big driver pair
Stereo to Mono 3.5mm splitter
* situational:
*hot glue or mounting method of choice
*any over ear headset or ear protection
*cushion fluff to absorb sound
*3.5mm extenders
*drill
The earbuds can be placed into the big driver headset if you have a big nice pair or you can get cheap muffs if your pair of big drivers is salvaged (top part busted?).
Virtual surround sucks.
open headphones are really annoying when you are on teamspeak with friends
Noo but a friend of mine uses open headphones and when i talk with him i hear a lot of echo all the time
Broc Stefan Im using the 668Bs and have had no problems like that.
Broc Stefan yeah maybe he has a modmic4.0 soo
Arjan Hansen i have a mod mic 4.0 on my ATH 700X's and i dont get feedback or echo on my mic from the headphones which are extremely open. you can litterally see the driver just sitting there behind a wire grate
I think that's TS's fault. My friends and I have a wide range of different headphone+mic combinations and we all hear echo sometimes. I have a modmic 4.0 but I'm not the only one getting echo.
My Astro A40s are good Headsets, Nothing wrong with them. I see no need to Change
They aren't good.
Ive had A40s and a30s and my current beyerdynamic dt770s are cheaper and blow them out of the water.
The dt770's are solid closed headphones for gaming, good bass and soundstage as well as comfort.
half of those headsets are $100-200 (amazon canada), don't think this is really applicable anymore
sharki9876 Yeah, and the Superlux's are even cheaper at $30 now. Get them. No. Get them.
I'm dumb af and i need help asap, the HD681 are semi open, so will people around me hear my music or gaming sounds too?
Why dont they like closed? Closed seem to be more immersive to me.
VeriTroll Worthy jr. open allows for a wider sound stage. better for professional quality
Stop pissing around with this stuff. Go over to JH Audio and get a set of real in ear monitors. Comfortable to wear 8+ hours a day. And pretttty much everyone in the pro world is already on them.
Best intro ever, ah the nostalgia.
Great resource
I love Tek Syndicate
Man, I want those heap phones
6 hours pfft 24/7 gaming
The Superlux is also available branded as Samson S850. That one has a non removable cable. Mine had velour pads but some don't. Also, a couple of years after this video came, Superlux actually started selling them with extra velour pads. Downside (intended as a feature) is they have a weird fixating wire that makes the wire break after a year or so if you move them around a lot. I got mine fixed via shortening the wire and I think they will last a few years now. Brand names with the same drivers also include Presonus and Axelvox and probably more but I am not sure of exact corresponding models.
Turtle beaches are an absolutly horrible investment, the cables die after like 2 months
i've had my turtle beaches for over 3 years and they sound exactly like how i got them
+SonikBurritos lol
Depends on how you handled thrm
my TB receiver died, they did sound good.
agreed
I have a modded pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80's with a zip tied mic LOL!
***** I liked for your mic rigging.......and for your Profile Pic....but mostly for your profile pic.
For the superlux headphones, you can by a 3.5 mm female to female adapter and the vmoda boompro mic and you've got yourself a gaming headset.
JJ Pablo does it work for ps4
best low price headset is Sennheiser Orpheus
Ikr, best bang for the buck.
J & L I agree. Duct taping a Blue Yeti to the cable works well for me as well.
It's such a good pair of headphones, I can safely say I would pay up to $50,000 for it. Oh wait...
much prefer closed headset.... because i have children, annoying loud mewling children... so as much noise reduction as possible is awesome!
worth pointing out that I bought a $10 headset 3 years ago they have great build quality and a GREAT sounding mic., I would tell you what brand but it has literally zero markings or labels, probably some cheap chinese made headset........
however...
they sound as good as my turtle beach headset, as good as my brothers logitech g35s, and much better than my old playstation gold wireless headset..... and they were $10!!!!!
just goes to show that the price and brand is really irrelevant. and you should try as many headsets as possible before buying (including some really "cheap crappy" headsets which often have great sound quality.)
also surround sound headsets are a scam..... don't buy into it.
Yeah somewhat few Chinese Products are much value for money. 👍
***** thats one opinion.
***** because my experiences were different
***** exactly my point :)
the brain is what makes it "surround"
not the speakers / headset,
it only works so well because of the rotation of the camera, this makes it natural and second nature to just "know" where shit is coming from :)
AwesomeVindicator most open headphones have active noise cancellation though. I've used open headphones my entire life and if i have them on both ears i cant hear shit from outside. Unless of course there's no sound.
Was that clip at 00:44 to 00:54 recorded with an iPhone? Its very warpy... like the iPhone 6 camera... impossible to take footage with...
Kingston HyperX Cloud II kicks ass though.
+Hijynx87 i dont have have the cloud 2 though i have the first version, the audio and built quality is fantastic. The ONLY bad thing about them is the mic.
+Darzo - Editor most gaming headphones mics are complete ASS
AthaLenixHD yeah i 100% agree with you there.
+Darzo - Editor I also have the original HyperX Cloud also, and after around 8-10 months of use the mic went to hell and started having a crap load of background noise, but other than that they are perfect
+tophercruzio Most gaming headset mics seem to die fairly early unless you are lucky.
using superlux hd681 evo and a zalman mic over here
best shit u can get for 38$
Meh, like in the video I would just spend the extra ten bucks and get the 668b. Would have to agree with you tho that the zalman mic is amazing!
in what way is the 668b worth the upgrade?
The HD668b is on sale right now for another 16 hours or so on GearBest. It's about €23 now. If I buy the Zalman mic it will add up to around 32€ I think (- €1 since I subscribed to the newsletter and got €1 in return). Your combination apparently isn't 'the best shit you can get for 38$) ;)
+WolfbitingSheep ye but imo the 668 is more for Monitoring than gamimg
Have you tried it yet?
Are the 681 EVOs much of an improvement from the 681s? Are they worth purchasing?
DONT BUY THE RAZER KRAKEN PRO !
why ?
talking about bad marketing , your title states that you were going to "make" a gaming - headset. and you only talk about brands a some sets.
Be serious here, and not stupid. Did you actually THINK they were going to MAKE a headset? Like, from scratch? No, that would be stupid.
Yes i'm serious you see a lot of weird and cool stuf so why not ,how to build a gaming headset. and i would be stupid to think is't not possible , building a headset isn't hard if you know what you are doing , building a pair of speaker for in home is normal so why not a head set. and saying A en doing B like the title is something that's normal now ? , it's called lying where i come from. there is no crime commited or anything but still is't a lie so people are mislead.
jerome vet
I don't know where you come from, but the title is nowhere misleading.
+jerome vet how is he lying? The tittle states make your own headset, As in turn your regular HEADPHONES into a HEADSET. He dint lie..
What the fuck? This is just ads for headsets; no fucking making a god-damn thing!
+duratoke Yes because you can just make a head set...
+Devilish Dovahkiin I'm thinking maybe sarcasm here, well that's the point I wanted to see how the fuck it was done.
I really like removable cables because instead of the cable stretching or breaking if it snags on something, it'll just fall out.
For xbox one gaming do I buy audio technica ad700x, Philip's sph9500 or the game one by sennheiser
Are the earbud cables long enough to reach your ears from your PC?
I have the RIG 505. They're open headsets, albeit gaming headsets. Are they still good?
I have a AGPTek HA0016 condenser mice that needs a +48VDC power supply...
will be Audio-Technica ATH-TAD300 good headphones for the price?
Thanks for the guide. I ended up going with the Sennheiser HD 429s along with the Zalman mic.
How was the audio?
Not the greatest. Highs and mids are okay, the bass is decent. I like a lot of bass so they fit my purpose pretty well.
In my experience, all apple earbuds will wear out after while. You will eventually notice they will not sound as loud as when they were new.
Where does the video start?
If I wear open headphones and listen to average-volume sound through them, will other people be able to hear it if the room is completely silent? Also, will the microphone possibly pick it up?
For 30$ more, you could get the Sennheiser 518's which are open back..... on Amazon, you can buy them used for 60$ in 'very good' condition! They sound pretty awesome.
I see you guys have a case for the Logitech G430s in the background.
How are they?
I bought those panasonic earbuds (12:35) about a year ago on a road trip and I was absolutely astounded at the sound quality I was getting out of these 8 dollar pair of ear buds. It may have been that they just fit my ears really well but they've been through the laundry twice and have been beaten up for about a year now and still sound fantastic. I've bought some 30 and 40 dollar pairs that don't sound as good or are as comfortable as these. Great value.
Is the SteelSeries Siberia V2 a good purchase for a gaming headset?
Ok, I may go with same thing
Good Advice, but does anyone know whats happening to 'California Headphone Co.' there headphones don't seem to be available and there website's down...
the quality of the physical microphone is far less important than the sampling, very dependent on the device that's doing the recording/processing. my TB X1 recorded with audacity sounds totally fine, all it's really missing is a better p-filter
Im planning on buying a gaming headset, what is the best price range?
Dumb question: In a subway and you do have open headphones, how intense will the death metal ride will be for the passengers? Honest answers please. I am just thinking of what to buy - gaming and music listening.
bad, also you'll still hear sound around you.
if you want to use headphones outside you'll need closed back
you could wear the sennheiser hd 595/598 for a week straight without discomfort.
my 595's are 10 years old and still work. The thick cable is amazing. Normal gaming headset thin cables break after just a few months.
What is the best closed up to ~100, my setup is in the same room as where my family's computer is, currently looking at the cloud iis
Would recommend :)
are you still recommend hd681 or hd 668b in 2022 ?
where exactly is the part where you make your own?! I didn't see anything getting put together, any chips getting soldered, etc. That's what I was expecting when you said in the title 'make your own'.
Will the semi-open Superlux 668B's leak sound into my desk mic? It's a samson meteor about 2 feet away
